"I hope that the org might review it's actual policies on blood. That would be a direct hit."
Yes, this is what we are after, right? We want the policy changed so that innocent lives are no longer offered up as a sacrifice to a false hope. We don't want money - we want the policy changed! And this might (emphasis on might) help speed up the process of liberalizing the Society's policy regarding blood. They have already been leaning towards a change, but this might heat things up a bit. When they do make it official - that blood is no longer prohibited - THEN there will be serious investigations into the Society's legitimacy from some more average R&F members.

Did The Watchtower Society Decieve You Enough To Sue Them???
by minimus indid they really misrepresent anything to you that you could sue for?
everyone knows how they take quotes out of context.
do you personally have a valid reason to sue the society??

"Fortunately, I don't have reason to sue them. I say "fortunately" because my mother almost bled to death after giving birth to my sister. If I'd lost my mom, I'd be the first one with a copy of that article in one hand and a phone in the other, calling a lawyer."
I almost bled to death as well. I was supposed to get married the day I wound up in the hospital, hemorrhaging uncontrolably.
A lot of us here have had terrible experiences, but I seriously do not see how a judge would rule in the plaintiff's favor in suing for damages in cases like these. We were not convinced that bloodless medicine was the best route due to it's purported medical superiority, we were convinced due to the FDS's interpretation of scripture - which is a religious matter, one that the courts will not touch.
However, I do not think this news is entirely worthless. I think it should add up for some fine clarifications/changes in policy from the WTS. It will certainly be interesting to see what happens. -

No.
I have been personally affected by the blood issue, but I am the one responsible for my own actions. Even if I based those actions on what I had been taught, it was still me who made the decisions, because I decided to believe in what I was taught. -

"I know that this woman just wanted a bit of attention and her credibility has been called into question."
Sam. I don't think it's a matter of Barbara wanting attention. It's just that we all handle "news" differently. She probably already regrets hyping it up like that... but let's just forget about that. We shouldn't make this into a personal attack on Barbara. -

Journal of Church and State: WT NO-BLOOD EXPOSE'
by AndersonsInfo in(baylor university, waco, tx) an essay entitled, "jehovah's witnesses, blood transfusions, and the tort of misrepresentation," found in the autumn issue of baylor universitys prestigious journal of church and state, published december 13, 2005, exposes the vulnerability of jehovahs witnesses religious organization to massive claims for compensation because of the religions misrepresentation of the medical risks of blood transfusions.
this milestone essay critically examines one of the religions main publications for teaching their children and new recruits about their blood beliefs, how can blood save your life?
the peer-reviewed essay details many misrepresentations of medical facts, which the religion partly relies on to support its blood prohibition, thus denying its members from making fully informed medical decisions.

There are 2 issues here:
1. Legal culpability: misrepresentation of medical facts has to account for something. I'm not sure it could wind up as a class-action lawsuit, but if a big enough issue was made out of it it could set a precedent.
2. Illegitimacy of Scriptual Authority: this, for me, is the big thing. The society's misrepesentation and ommitance of facts could have a domino effect on how they write articles in the future. Perhaps they will be forced to include references in their publications! Let me tell you, if they do that, they will have to re-write a hell of a lot of "spiritual food." And in order to make up for the subsequent lack of supporting information from credible sources such as doctors, scientists, historians, etc, they will be forced to gloss over much of their assumptions and flawed logic. Changes in policy will be soon to follow.
It is going to to be MOST interesting to see how the Society responds and reacts to this. Their reaction could break them in two as far as their scriptual legitamcy of authority over the R&F is concerned. -

"A question about the amount of times this thread has been viewed...
If I MYSELF view this thread 20 times, does it count as 20 or 1?"
Its a simple matter of proper English.
It says "Viewed: 4x,xxx times," not "4x,xxx Viewers". -

"However, I have absolutely no faith in the intelligence of the majority of the r&f. They`ll probably swallow ever little lame excuse the GB can come up with.
So true! For the most part the r/f are not in it based on intellectual reasoning, but based on their emotional vulnerabilities. So appeals based on logic, truth and reality don't particularly impress them. "
Appeals based on logic, truth and reality are the only good tools we have. They are much more effective than the emotional tools. You could say the whole child-molestation debacle was an emotional appeal to all JW's, but we staved off the Devil with logic in reasoning that it was simply a smear campaign by apostates. THe fact is, most JW's will rationalize however they need to in order to maintain continuity of belief and thought. Unless THEY THEMSELVES change due to some event in their own life, few will be convinced of any evidence against the WTS.
I was raised as a witness, pioneered, went to bethel, pioneered again, an ms since i was 18 years old. I had pretty strong faith, but then something huge happened to me and my outlook was changed. I didn't know the full implications of that change for a few years afterward - I am still figuring it out - but look where it has led me thus far. I was on the 'elder-track' and wanted desperately to be approved and respected by my family, but due to that specific experience I couldn't care less anymore. It also changed my core approach to life....
My point is that little we say or do will change the way the average JW will live their life - we cannot change people, we can only change ourselves. And that goes for our beloved family members. -

Wait - the little crypto-poem on page 39 mentioned something like "we can store it" - so I'm thinking that JWs can now have their blood sotred and used later in an opperation.

Everyone knows someone who went through the blood issue during some illness. Some of us went through it ourselves. ALL "light" is supposed to be beneficial - not just the NEW light. I don't think any old light got old because of some epiphane some GB member had - it's because their old light affected one of them personaly and they actually realized how assinine it was.
If it is blood, believe me, it will be a hige deal in my neck of the woods. They are going to be raked over the flames for this. -

Holy Shit-Balls of Babylon!
If this is what it is - and it actually IS coinciding with change in doctrine (newer light) I will have PLENTY of ammo.
