i've known known a lot of bethelites and it never ceased to amaze me when asked why they wanted to go there the kind of answers i got.

I went to Bethel for several good reasons (e.g. because I wanted to serve my God), but also because it was a way to escape my family and home. I'm not so sure that latter reason was all that bad--some people get married for the same reason, or fall into destructive activities.
i don't cook so i usually eat one meal a day out.
i pobably spend a couple of hundred a week with food an d drink.

The chain restaurants will always find ways to screw you. Go to restaurants that don't have a corporate HQ with pinheads scheming on how to serve you lower quality food without you noticing.

My wife and I routinely make meals at home that would cost $20+ a plate at a nice restaurant. Last night it was a cajun seafood pasta with prawns and scallops. We get the satisfaction of making something, doing it for less money (although that's not necessarily the goal), and eating it in the comfort of our own home. We like going out, but nothing replaces the satisfaction of being able to make good meals at home.

Interesting analogy, OTWO. I think it's because we all want to "believe" in the magic, in the same way witnesses want to believe the "truth." Deep down, we know it's all "smoke and mirrors" but suspend our disbelief in order to be entertained. Same thing with the "truth," but instead of entertainment, its hope of paradise.

I just don't understand why some of us think that every story by an ex-JW needs to have an anti-Watchtower angle to it.
I, for one, don't think that. I think the most powerful stories are the ones with a HUMAN angle to them. By making JWs human, the barriers between them and the world will break down.

1) turn her ass in to the elders, while blowing smoke in their face from a nice cuban cigar.
It's nice that she's a bit of an "outlaw" abotu the cigs, but 1) spending your money on them secretly, and 2) buying them for your son nonetheless, is really despicable.
