GOSSIP In the Kingdom Hall

the overwhelming amount of gossip that circulated through my kingdom hall was a major factor in my decision to stop attending meetings.

every meeting, every day of field service, and every gathering was plagued with vicious rumors that people told to keep themselves entertained.

surprisingly, the pioneers and elder's wives were the worst of everyone.

Sunflower - ugh! is all I can say. It is so true! I was a pioneer myself for a long time, and you are right, car groups for service were usually full of the latest gossip. I know I participated at one point in my life. I feel bad about that. The gossip was just nasty stuff about people, especially people who weren't out in field service or had missed a few meetings. Very self righteous talk. One MS who was also a pioneer was the worst one in our hall..surprisingly (setting an example). It made my stomach hurt, especially when I had started checking out (mentally) and knew I didn't want to be in service etc...

What else do witneeses have to entertain themselves??? Not much!

i have a bunch of "worldly" friends that i really care about and they are all planning on taking me out but i hesitate...i just only recently within the last 2 years started taking active interest in my birthday so i only have a minimal idea of what to feel...i know i will go out and get trashed and plastered but i want to know what it feels like...i dont know if this post makes any sense haha i think i'm gonna just drink myself into a nice stupor and pass out somewhere hahaha...any tips or advice from anybody here?

its my birthday friday!

i have a bunch of "worldly" friends that i really care about and they are all planning on taking me out but i hesitate...i just only recently within the last 2 years started taking active interest in my birthday so i only have a minimal idea of what to feel...i know i will go out and get trashed and plastered but i want to know what it feels like...i dont know if this post makes any sense haha i think i'm gonna just drink myself into a nice stupor and pass out somewhere hahaha...any tips or advice from anybody here?

Most of you are Ex-JW's so maybe you will understand this....Okay, I posted yesterday that today would be my birthday..well here it is. This is my 3rd birthday I have celebrated and every year I feel blue about the exact same thing, Tell me I am being silly. It really bugs me that my worldly friends have all this family that calls them and says Happy BD and they get cards that they post all over there desk and file cabinets. My family doesn't call ( big surprise) and I want my mom or dad to call me so bad and acknowlege that I was the first born and today, many years ago, I changed their life. It will never happen. I seriously doubt that my sisters even remember since they barely know thier own birthdays. Do this make any sense to anybody out there?

I'm addicted!!!

i'm supposed to be working, but can't seem to get away from this freakin' board!!!

can anyone help me or give advice as to how they limit their time here.

i do really well when i'm out of the office meeting with clients, but when i'm at my desk i'm a lost cause.. simon, i can't get enough of your place!!!

Am I too new to be addicted???? I feel addicted, I open the board first thing when I get to work. I check it every hour or so,what will happen to me when I'm not a newbie anymore? Maybe it's too late for me already.

Who shuns you?

after reading a number of posts it sounds like most of you have been shunned even by your immediate family members (parents, brothers, sisters)after you were df'd.. i am shunned by my sister-in-law - but she's it out of the entire family.

my uncle, brothers, mother, and father (an elder before he passed away) all continued to associate with me - we even go out to dinners together.. so here's my question - is my family the minority?

i thought that only non-family members had to shun you but family was ok as long as they don't discuss spiritual issues.

Thanks Rhett, I know your right. Sometimes, I'm embarrassed that I was ever a part of it myself. Like, what was I thinking wasting all that time in cult??? How could I stay there for so long??? Thoughts like that make me reluctant to share my past with anyone. Am I the only one who thinks that way?

All my childhood friends shun me. My mom is also a shunner, except for the occasional phone call that involves crying and begging for me to come back to "Jehovah's Organization". One of my sisters hasn't spoken to me since 1994, and she had a baby that I haven't seen, when she had her baby,I cried, that one hurt pretty bad.She returned by baby gift and card. My aunts, uncles, cousins all shun me.

But, I have one sister who is now DF'd and we are pretty close. That helps. The whole thing is so ridiculous from an outsiders point of view, how do you tell non-Jw's why your family won't talk to you? Any suggestions out there?

Disfellowshipped Friends

im sorry for filling up the boards with my mindless ramblings but, being new here, i have to so much to ask.. recently, two of my good friends were disfellowshipped.

i feel bad for them because they were raised as jws and now their relationship with their family and friends will cease to exist, but i also feel like this is the optimal time to talk to them about the truth.

ive told them both that i love them and that i dont care what standing they are in, but all they want is to get reinstated and become pioneers to prove that they love jehovah just as much as everyone else.

I agree with Beck. When I first left, I still thought it was the truth. It took me a while to de-program. I would give them some time and then help the intergrate into the real world. I used to dream some of my old friends would leave, but it hasn't happened on the scale I had hoped. I totally can relate to feeling anxious to have some old relationships. Honestly, most of the people I have known that got DF'd, went back. One got DF'd a second time though and he stayed out.

I read almost everything I was supposed too (ugh). I was such a good witness for a while, like age 15 years plus. You know what really bothered me though, the Creation book. It just seemed straange. The "nailing the coffin shut" stuff was so overused! "The lady (organization)doth protest too much, methinks." Other than that, I never made it through one whole Yearbook.
