I wouldn't say I got depressed at Christmas, but I was the only member of my family in the org, and I did feel a bit left out at times. However, some of us used to have get - togethers on Christmas Day, parties really of course, but no - one called them that. This year has been my first proper Christmas celebration since 1980, and my family are delighted. I have sent them all cards and gifts, and they have done the same to me. I have enjoyed it, but it's seemed kind of strange.

Help!!! About distributing press releases
by blindersoff inas i started to get into the nuts & bolts of emailing the press release about quotes to my local newspaper, i wound up wondering who to send it to.
should it go to the editor, publisher, janitor?.
should we 'take out a territory'?

We (dedpoet &me) have been sending emails to the local and national papers regarding Quotes, so hopefully something will get in the press soon. I hope it appears in the local paper really, a lot of jws read that.

Hi phoibos, and welcome to the board
It is a great work you and others are doing, and I thankyou, thought I doubt the borg will be very grateful!
Perhaps when they see yours and other mirror sites springing up, they might meditate on this scripture, from Hosea 8 vs 7:
"They have sown the wind, and will reap the whirlwind"
It seems kind of appropriate to me

Which religion is right for you?
by seesthesky inyou scored as judaism.
your views are closest to those of judaism.
if you are not a jew, do more research on judaism and possibly consider becoming one; however, realize that conversion to judaism is difficult.

I just took the test, and came out 65% Christian, which is probably about right, Dedpoet came out 100% atheist, which he totally agrees with

What were the reasons you would say it was "the truth"?
by DannyBloem injust a question, because i'm trying to find out how to bring up good arguments to people still in the borg.... a) what were the reasons when you were (or are) still a jw that you would say that "you were in the truth"?.
b) and what would you say now, that were the reasons that you thought it was the troof?.
a) 1) the prophecies come truth.

When I first started studying, their explanations of the reasons for the state of the world seemed to make so much sense, and their idead for the future paradise were very appealing, and I swallowed it all. It also seemed like a good, clean way to live.

i am new
by lunarlara ini have been studying with the jw for just over 3 years.i have always believed in god and the bible.
the path my life took ended up with me being a single parent of 4 children.. the jws led me down the path of the "truth".
my grandmother disowned me and i just couldnt understand why.i was told that satan was lurking round every corner trying to get me away from god.

Hi lunalara, and welcome to the forum.
I am glad that you found out the truth about the jws before committing yourself, I only wish I had been so lucky. Don't worry about hurting the jws feelings, they would hurt yours without hesitation if you did join them and did something they don't approve of. If they shun you, so be it, you will have lost nothing, their "friendship" is conditional anyway. You will make far more meaningful and lasting friendships away for the jws, and by walking away now you will save yourself and your kids a lifetime of misery.
RUN LUNA LARA, AND KEEP RUNNING. NEVER LOOK BACK
Love, Linda

Over 160,000 Simply Left The "Truth" Last Year
by minimus inthat was the comment that a former elder made at the local meeting today in his comment.
evidently, he and his wife heard a bethel speaker's comment during his talk say that (i believe the figure was) 167,000 people did not get disfellowshipped but simply left.
the ex-elder made it a point to say that the elders should be watching to help out the flock before they up and leave.

That's quite a lot, really. Let's hope it doubles or trebles next year.

How many ex JWs return to the Borg?
by greendawn insomeone told me there are statistics showing that ultimately one third of jws leaving will go back to the borg.
this is not the general impression one gets from this forum.
so what's really happening?
-
fullofdoubtnow
I would say that at least 35 people left the jws during my time in and never returned (I made it 36). There were probably about 20 or so more who were df'd and came back. These were almost exclusively one who had most of their family in the org, but not many of them got anywhere in the cong after coming back, they always seemed to be mistrusted by the elders. And that was just in my congregation, it may be different in others, but there foes seem to be general trend in this area to leave and stay out.
