I have posted this before, but it bears repeating:
One thing that Ed Dunlap told me was that he really felt bad about the JW religion because they were so horrible that they pretty much spoiled all religion for most of the people who left the JWs.
I think there is a measure of truth in that - I personally cannot look at any of the religions the same way after the JWs.

I have the feeling that JWN is predominately athiest - maybe about 60/40 that way.
However, I have known about fifty people who left the JWs back in the Ray Franz/1980 era - and only a very small minority became athiest.

i often wonder about the older "old school" jehovah's witnesses that are up in their 70's and they are losing all their friends they have known most of their lives.
they waited together all those years for the big "a" and it still isn't here.
they are still sitting at the meetings, raising their hands to answer on the same old material and waiting for any tidbit of new information about how close they are to that paradise earth.. i wonder what would be their first thought when the doubt begins to seep in and they have nobody to tell it too....... .
I did become discourged about the WTS having so much control over our lives but it was not until I read an article about Jesus being the Mediator for only the 144,000 that I began to have doubts about the borg.
I was an elder at the time that article came out - and I can honestly tell you that it created more shock waves in the congregation than anything else that I ever saw as a witness.
I was not surprised by it, because I was just about ready to resign and walk away when it was published, but it really was one of the last straws.

i was just thinking of of the fun i had since leaving the jws and many things i have done since would fall foul of judicial action.. .
even inviting a female neighbour over for tea could have caused problems, which got me to thinking.
how much fun can you have as a witness guilt free?.
I had a Porsche 911T Targa back in 1969 and got called into a little judicial counseling session for it.
There was no punishment because I said my grandfather gave it to me as a graduation present from 2-year college.
There was no punishment for college because I said my grandfather sent me to college as part of the family trust.
There was never any guilt.
i was reading the find whitney heichel page of fb and the moderator has posted info about another missing girl in oregon (non-jw) well, apparantley this missing girl has some sort of a past or something and people are getting on the site (mostly jw's) and making rude remarks about this girl has a bad past and that it's prob her fault.
i can't fathom how they can get on there after the horrible tragedy of whitney and yet because this other missing girl is not jw somehow now they attach fault to her going missing.
this is exactly why i can't deal with jw's.
Excellent emotional response, Terry - but a person being terrorized with a gun held on them in this situation is probably not going to be able to do that.
Which causes a thinking person to realize that the JW "guilty victim if you don't scream and fight" creed is total bullshit.
