  If everyone recalls, Fearon was barred from this site for (among other things) blatant homophobic comments - including using homophobic terms for anyone here who challenged his posts. Many of the posts strained credulity beyond that of a 7-year old kid.

  It seems to me a great shame that a number of people who are respected in ex-JW circles seem to have been steered into his conference calls - a recent example was the Conti case.

  Some have expressed that they did it purely for publicity - that "any publicity is good publicity".

  I disagree with that strongly - this is to me a case of publicity which does more harm than good to credibility.

  i notice in ray's books he has a disdain for the more vocal dissidents of the watchtower organization.

  with this being said, did ray franz go on shows like merv griffen, oprah and other "talk mediums" to attack the watchtower society?

  i remember as a kid my mother running up and turning off shows apostates were to appear on, and i can't remember if ray was one of the 'bashers'?

  I once asked to borrow "The Commentary on the Letter of James", one old Jehovah Witness couple said "You know who wrote that don't you?", "yeah, I know it was Ray Franz" like this would shock me.

  Actually, it was Ed Dunlap who wrote the Commentary on James.

  the photo drama of creation wowed 9 million people in the early 1914 synchronizing film, hand colored frames and phonograph recordings.. state of the art!.

  judge rutherford availed himself of victrola recordings of "religion is a snare and a racket!

  Yes, seenitall - HERITAGE. I had forgotten the name of this shameless horror.

  If I recall correctly, there was at the approximate same time a very damaging episode of "Doctor Kildare" on the networks which showed an inside look at a blood transfusion crises.

  Dr. Kildare went ahead and saved the victim with a transfusion, (like a good doctor should) and the witness family ended up not pressing charges!

  As I recall, the local witnesses were outraged that the child was not allowed to die.

  popcorn with caramel on it.. it had a gimmick, however, that really pushed sales and kept it popular decade after decade.. crackerjacks had a prize hidden inside!.

  They did make a few abortive "family style" TV religious programs which we had to take to the local stations and try to get on the air.

  They were - quite frankly - embarrassing in their amatuerish naievety.

  I remember a 30 minute B&W thing they did in the 1960s - one of the TV executives that I took it to quite simply advised me (in a constructive, friendly manner) that we should go to some professional TV production companies. He offered to give me some names that did religious programming.

  Witnesses simply do not know how strange they look to the regular world - being cooked, as it were, in their own juices.

  now i know that there are some here that can supply plenty of documented proof as to the hatred inciting teachings of the past presidents and the now rulling governing body in the literature they export world wide.. any former member who has changed his mind and no longer excepts these hate inspireing teachings of the governing body is labeled "mentally diseased" meaning these people are to be avoided because they have a catchy mental malfunction that is deadly.. all governments are controlled by an invisible master mind who has only evil intentions and is leading the vast majority of the human race to thier destruction.

  and thier followers are encouraged to hate what jehovah hates and jehovah hates all the governments of the earth includeing isreal and even the united nations of which they are members as an ngo.. in russia thier literature is rightly ban because it is reccognized as hatred inspireing.

  (no shit sherlock!).

  OK - aside from the legal aspects, aside from what the ACLU might do, aside from constitutional law - aside from all of it:

  Does anybody really think that some kind of government intervention could possibly make the Watchtower Society start being nice to disfellowshipped people, ex-members, governments in general, other churches, or the U.N.?

  Come on people - we were witnesses. We know what kind of hate these people have generated for everybody and everything except themselves.

  There is (in simple practical terms) - NOTHING that the U.S. government can practically do to just somehow legislate them into "being nice".

  What Chaserious said is correct.

  In reality (historically) the ACLU has generally sided with the Watchtower when they got involved in freedom of religion issues related to the witnesses.

  The government cannot create laws to try to make people be nice to each other.

  I'm thinking in time many countries will follow Russia's ban on hate inspireing literature.

  Undoubtedly, the JWs would never have gotten started and grown to their present position without extremely liberal application of the United States free speech laws. Even then, they did come afoul of the government in Rutherford's day when he published literature encouraging active members of the military toward sedition.

  Free speech is a wonderful human right, but we do have to put up with some truly ridiculous bullshit - look no further than the Westboro Baptist Church if you want another example aside from the witnesses.

  i am a jw rule breaker, and i have never been a "rat", as logic dictates i am very trusted with people's dealings (inner circles of local players).

  "dear james, there is a brother whose wife pretty much killed herself two years ago and refused to pay for her funeral."...

  "he is still in good standing after forcing the congregation to pay for her burial, "wake" and funds for her poor kids to attend the funeral.".

  Besides that, I have NEVER, EVER heard of a kingdom hall kicking in to pay for a witness funeral.

  More likely that they would just let the state welfare department bury them like a homeless person if the family would not pay.
