sophisticated bacteria:
Sophisticated bacteria, Marvin? I thought we were debating the cosmos...
here's the problem with infinity ... we can't comprehend it.. it's bad enough when it's space, but when it's time as well and then we throw in some all powerful creature supposedly existing forever ... well, it just doesn't make sense and raises questions.. such as why wait?
why didn't god create the universe the day before he did?
or the day before that?

Gravity came into warping holding the cosmic egg together like the casing of little fat man over hiroshima,
but energy trumped and still does, as we expand in our journey through time.
We do not understand this, but we respect your opinion and your freedom to say so.
EDIT - I think we may begin to understand it: You are suggesting an inflationary universe without end (to a dark loss (excuse me - a maximation) of entropy)?
I somehow do not like to think it will be that way.

EP read James Woods reference above' time before THIS universe.
please google "Time before Cosmos, universe, space, whatever".
Any work involving a NATURAL firing of the big bang singularity with its energy content involves probing into the pre-big bang condition.
the "Pre" gets you into time right away.
Time dimension before space dimension is Entirely Possible,
weaving the cosmos one strand dimension at a time.
The Time-Space-Gravity Cat thanks you for your thoughts.
cult members are property.. living property consisting of non-persons and non-individuals with disabled self-expression.. the tool used by this religion to control a member's desire to self-improve is attaching guilt as a stop-sign and crying: "disloyal.".
like any owned property, you are under the total control of others.
any wrong move, word or deed can label you a "danger" to the group-think.. there exists in such an authority structure only three possible stats you can achieve.. 1.compliant usefulness in carrying out assigned missions.
Good read as usual. One slight thing is mustaches are allowed.
Amazing. Will ownership of a Ferrari be allowed next?

I have just read a very interesting book by the noted professor of mathematics and physics - Sir Roger Penrose / Oxford University.
He suggests that the Big Bang itself was not the total origin of all that exists (and of time). He suggests that the present universe is the result of the collapse of a former universe and that this universe will eventually do the same. Therefore "time" would transcend the present and future universes of physical matter.
This theory is somewhat contrarian to present scientific thought - but I cannot fault his logic. For one thing, he cites the principles of Entropy and the constancy of the Cosmic Background Radiation. He states that the greatest Entropy creator in the universe is the presence of super-massive black holes. He makes the point that gravitational Entropy increases as gravity collects things together - while molecular motional Entropy tends to separate things. I had never thought about that before. I think he deserves further scrutiny and discussion.
His book is "Cycles of Time" - copyright 2010.
i'm just curious if jwn is as busy as it was even a year or two ago?
.
sometimes it seems this place buzzes and other times, not so much....but maybe it's all in my head..
I dont intend to be as tolerant of people being disruptive as I once was.
I agree. You should crack down with great authority. (it was said in jest, Simon...)

Still lots of work to do but I'm very happy with the codebase and how things are shaping up.
I too am happified.
well, i'm back on jwn so i may as well start a new thread!.
this story caught my eye on sky news recently.... http://news.sky.com/story/1104007/google-balloon-project-gets-off-the-ground.
it's basically a new initiative from google to bring the internet to far flung parts of the earth including parts of africa that are simply not wired up to the internet yet.. i'm not sure how the accessibility will work in terms of subscriptions etc, but google seem serious about it and early tests have been positive.. so, the question raised in my mind was, could this turn the tide against the watchtower?
Possibly, Simon.
But what I am wondering is how the people who are in the most need are going to have a device in their hands to get access to these balloons.
The engineer side of me wonders what keeps the balloons floating in the correct place, given the wind and the weather.
I still suspect this is shameless PR.

The cynical side of me wonders if this is not merely a meaningless PR effort by Google -
Isn't it obvious that they have had some very negative news reports over their activities lately?

Cedars, this thread is exactly the sort of deep intellectual conversation that I have missed since you have been away.
