Did anyone in the congregation discourage you from going to college?
by Trapped in JW land ini remember being out on service with an elder when i was 17. he asked me what i plan on doing after high school.
i told him i was thinking of going to college to be a teacher.
he then asked me, "do you think this system is going to be around that long"?

I made a very high score on my ACT test in 1967 - senior year in high school. Third highest that year, as a matter of fact.
I was interested in a science career - and Rice University offered me a tuition scholarship.
The elders talked my parents into talking me into declining it and going out to pioneer where the "need was great".
I have never forgiven the Watchtower Society Luddites for that.

What piece of WT literature is worth holding onto, or have you kept? Why?
by losingit ini have basically thrown away all of my bound volumes and loose wt and awake magazines.
i kept some bpoks, the insight to the scriptures, god's love, the reasoning book, and daniel's prophecies (this was my favorite) .
i held onto insight to the scriptures after reading some of ray franz's book, crisis of conscience.

Actually, the Emphatic Diaglot - the old Benjamen Wilson version. If they still publish it.

Infinity and god - why wait to create the universe?
by Simon inhere's the problem with infinity ... we can't comprehend it.. it's bad enough when it's space, but when it's time as well and then we throw in some all powerful creature supposedly existing forever ... well, it just doesn't make sense and raises questions.. such as why wait?
why didn't god create the universe the day before he did?
or the day before that?

Can you or can you not answer the questions?
Sometimes we are wise to admit that we cannot.

A cult of Sociopaths undergoing a makeover
by Terry incult members are property.. living property consisting of non-persons and non-individuals with disabled self-expression.. the tool used by this religion to control a member's desire to self-improve is attaching guilt as a stop-sign and crying: "disloyal.".
like any owned property, you are under the total control of others.
any wrong move, word or deed can label you a "danger" to the group-think.. there exists in such an authority structure only three possible stats you can achieve.. 1.compliant usefulness in carrying out assigned missions.

Mustaches must be a variable thing. Several in my cong have them (myself included), including some MSs and Elders.
You have a congregation, Terry? You have grown in my admiration.

but I remember reading Jules Vernes and other science fiction, super car engines and their makers chased by wealthy Americans,-- teleportation , and speculation on Relatively in th 1930s.
Einstein's works were banned then by the nazis believe it or not.
Super Cat Engines are indeed the work of the Devil's hands...but all this is off topic.
I believe that you are correct on the Nazi ban of Einstein - Hitler called it "Jewish Science". I read last summer the autobiography of Heisenberg - and he pretty much verifies that.

I rather like Laurance Krause, prologos - have you read his books "The Physics of Star Strek", and "Beyond (the physics of) Star Trek"?

“I thought we were debating the cosmos...”
My impression is we are discussing the universe, origin and human perspective.
Bacteria and humans are part of the universe.
Marvin Shilmer
Yes, but the question is - does the Universe affect the Bacteria - or do the Bacteria affect the Universe?

If you googled it, then you must know the ultimate answer.
I am glad you know.
