  kneeling before the altar in vatican square the new pope along with some younger men kissed the cloth as the ceremony began to install hundreds of new saints for the catholic faithful.

  included in this group were 813 catholics beheaded in 1480 by the turks who wanted them to convert to islam.

  several nuns were sainted for there nursing and teaching work.

  There seems to be quite a list of messiah claimants on Wikipedia, it mentions Vespasian according to Josephus under Jewish messiah Claimants.

  I don't think he was.

  Are you actually saying that we cannot believe everything we read on Wikipedia??? I am destroyed - next you will probably suggest that Isadora Duncan did not die at the wheels of a Bugatti type 35... And yet - in another 3,000 years - perhaps the silliest Wiki postings may be taken to be the "word of God".

  this weeks book study on jeremiah, turns on baruch, jeremiah's secretary.

  it stated that he desired great things for himself.

  the writer covers all bases when they state that it could be materialism, power, prestige, as place to live, etc.

  There are two sides to the coin mentioned in the original post:

  For every "masochistic" christianity (JWs, the flagellation-fetish monks, some might say the isolationists such as the Amish) - -

  (You gain future salvation and piety by present day earthly suffering)

  There are also the "hedonistic" christian offshoots - Robert Shuller (Crystal Cathedral), Joel Osteen, etc...

  (You gain immediate earthly gratification - worldly wealth, health, happiness - by contributing to and supporting these faiths)

  Both are, of course, illusionary.
