Can anyone tell me about the UN

i'm so sorry that i'm sure everytime somone new joins you're going over the same thing again, but all this is very new to me, in fact i've done very little this past week except read articles and cross reference the wt cd rom..lol, everyone thinks i'm getting spiritual again, anyway!

i have read several references to the jws and the un.. can anyone shed some light on the matter, ie point me in the direction of good posts or articles about it, as i'm still unclear what has been going on.

i'm most interested in the facts of the case which is what i think this board is best at!.

ok... i just found this and i know it's been posted before, but i had to comment!!

i have tried to justify some of the changes, but this one can only be a lie.

it's a direct quote apparently from something somebody said.. so he either said 'within fifteen years' or he said 'soon'.. it is not possible it's just become clearer what he said, or they misheard him the first time.

when i joined the jw org.

the truth was that we were separating sheep from goats by preaching door to door.. today this isn't so.. name a few truths that were true back then but are lies today.. .

You know what I could never understand, and this has not changed, so sorry if it's off topic! They say Jehovah has 'lovingly' allowed all this time to pass so that more people could be saved, and last week the brother said.. look around, how many of us would not be here if the end had come 10 years ago!!! And i just couldn't believe he said it cos 10 years ago our hall used to be full, and now it's half empty and most of the people that regularly go are the old ones. There are very few young families going along now. And when I voiced this to my OH he said.. well it's a time of testing so the ones that survive are really worthy... so is that fair on the person that has JUST got baptised when someone else served 30 years then got tired???

I suppose we all have our own personal demons and reasons that motivate us to do more research. The blood issue has never been a problem for me and I would never take a blood transfusion witness or not. But that's because I have done my research!! I have very close contact with the medical profession. The things that are very important to me are if I feel the FDS have deliberately misled the masses to aid their own plans. And mainly if what I have always believed to be the truth is not true!! Bit like being shaken to the core when you find out someone you loved and trusted has been cheating on you for years. You just feel stupid. And that's how I'm feeling right now, But I still have major doubts on both sides, doubts the truth is the truth, and doubts it's not. But I suppose that's natural, what I love about this place is the fact everyone not only wants me to research and find out for myself, nobody tries to put across their interpretation..You apostates are a lot like the ancient boreans..lol, who examined the scriptures daily to see that these things were so!

i had an idea that i could build a uk map of everyones location which would show you instantly who is in your area from jwd.. (it might be an idea to do a seperate us one aswell but i'll wait and see if this one takes off first, or if anyone from the us wants to volunteer to do that one).

(and australia but you are all in the same backyard anyway - literally!!!).

anyway, all you have to do is post or email me your username and town and i will draw you on the map above which will change gradually to include everyone!.

I think for some people that's true, definitely not for me, I NEVER liked being a witness! Always hated the ultra conservative ness because I'm so NOT conservative, always hated the way they put women down, always hated the same old stuff coming over meeting after meeting. I did not go for self importance, I carried on going mainly I think out of fear that if I didn't.. and Armageddon came tomorrow, next week or next year like I was SURE it would, except in this past few years I would have died .. and for what? I believed it, that's why I carried on going. So supposed I answered my own question!

Thank you guys, and I know you understand! But I also agree.. once this can of worms has been opened the lid is impossible to get back on! Those little suckers just keep wriggling out! No wonder the organisation are so intent on not a word of 'apostate' literature being looked at. I went to my first meeting in a long time today (family thing) and for the first time in years I was carefully looking up all the scriptures.. cross referencing, trying to think what it would read like if there was no 'spin' on it, and now I wonder how anyone is coming along at all.. well in our cong their not! but if it was me and I had never been brought up in the 'truth' I would NEVER believe it! When Blondie commented today on the WT and the fact it said 'one reference'... and didn't quote the reference, it just kept jumping off the page at me.. it doesn't mean or prove a thing so why have I never noticed it before? And why did I consider myself open minded? Why did I never notice that word 'SUBMIT' which is peppered through the literature? And every other paragraph has a reference to the organisation or FDS...

I would be VERY interested to learn more about your research on mind control etc.. because these people are intelligent, educated etc why do they stay!! Why did I stay? lets face it I'm only here now because I drew far enough away myself through lack of energy to do it, not because I thought it wasn't true.

586 607 Jerusalem destroyed.

and i'm sure this has been covered, but i find the site has no search for me to look, so sorry if you've discussed it to death.

for the first time last night i came across information about 586 being the actual year jerusalem was destroyed.

Sorry Scholar, but your arguments do not hold water, I am probably one of the most likely people here to listen to a well formed argument as to WHY Jws use the 607 date and the argument that they must be right because they said so.. just doesn't work. I have always believed the bible compares well to history and it seems it does...it is the JWs that do not compare well with history and to say just because 70 years back from 537 is 607 therefore it's right.. implies to me that the 70 years interpretation is wrong. And as others have said, we cannot believe the FDS is infallible because of the holy spirit because we would be fools, as they have been proven to be wrong before.. which is fine with me, wrong is fine, it is the knowing and not admitting that I have a problem with. But I do have respect for your views and think swearing at you because you try and put across an argument is wrong.

Just want to say after finding this site and others just a few days ago I feel like my world is upside down. I just dont know what to believe. I see in black and white what I have been taught is not true, and yet cannot let go of the feeling that maybe this is just apostate thinking and all I need to do is have faith etc etc. I've had so many highs and lows. The initial high of thinking... wow, I've been lied to, I can walk away with a clean conscience and let go of all that horrible guilt. But then I've had lows of looking at ones in the congregation and thinking it must be right, there has to be a god, he must have a purpose, even though the 'organisation' is imperfect, it is nearer than most. I have gone over and over the 607 thing, and am waiting for my Raymond Franz book to go over it again! I am so impressed by the life stories I've read, that have proven to me that many here have been longstanding and faithful and have been just as shocked by what they've found out as me. And they have such a ring of truth about them. It's obvious from the posts here, nobody is pretending to be what they're not. We have all been there, we all BELIEVED it to be the truth! The money at assemblies thing has ALWAYS bothered me. Why do they ASK for a certain amount, it cant be right, when it's not what we owe.. But it has honestly NEVER occured to me someone is profiting! Today I was sitting with my extended family at a meal, every one a witness, and thinking.. if they KNEW what I'd been looking at and what I was thinking..lol!

Anyway, just checking in and saying where I'm at (when I find out which way up I am, I'll let you know!) Need to do more reading and more thinking! But this place has been a haven for me anytime I can get online! I want to say how I really appreciate the support.

Very interesting. I was looking at the WT for today and reading the scripture about the Faithful and Discreet slave and now I'm beginning to look at things in a new light I thought... does this even apply to today? Could Jesus not have just been using an illustration as he was earlier in the scripture. And suddenly all the time the word SUBMIT could be used in one study leapt out at me... This Wilkipedia article is very interesting and thought provoking, of course they are right, out of the supposedly 8000 or so faithful slave left on the earth at least 7950 have no input at all into the teachings!! Incidentally I'm very new, but is Wilkipedia run or owned by Ex Jws? Their information is just too accurate!
