Apostate Signs At Conventions...Has Anybody Left Because Of That?
by mentallyfree31 injust wondering how much good that does when ex-jws hold up signs at conventions.
do you know of anybody that saw something on a sign and did research and subsequently left the organization?.

It can be viewed as a seed planting enterprise. Back about 1988 a few of us stood outside a JW convention in Phoenix, Arizona with a 20 foot banner that read: "Why did Suiter, Klein and Schroeder want to change 1914 to 1957? Call XXX-XXXX." The phone number on the sign played a 3 minute recorded message detailing the info from Ray Franz's Crisis of Conscience about how 3 members of the Governing Body (in secret session) had proposed changing the beginning of the "generation" to 1957.
We got hundreds of phone calls and dozens of requests for mailed information. I still remember how one JW rolled down his window as he passed by and said: "Don't you mean 1975, not 1957?" I guess he thought he was helping us.
We had other smaller signs such as "Do You Have an Open Mind?" (along with a blow up of the Awake! cover with the same title), etc.
I doubt that anyone came out of the Organization just because of our signs but I like to think it planted seeds of doubt in many JW minds.

Audio: Generation teaching as explained at the San Diego District Convention 05-30-2010
by kurtbethel inthis is an excerpt from the final talk of the day, "remain in the secret place of the most high".
i looked around as this explanation was being offered up, and the looks on the faces of people there was mostly disinterest.
this is a very convoluted explanation that reminds me of someone running a con and trying to cobble together an explanation to deal with legitimate objections to their false claims.. http://www.sendspace.com/file/dodp4w.

I bet you there are many who know it's "all crap."
Just to add that the benefactor for the recording is our own Aunt Bee. Thank you for taking the time to go to the Convention and recording the lecture! I believe she has some other recordings and may share these later.

I really don't think there'll be any legal issues with the lecture as it was given at a public venue. The type of things that the WT Society has challenged in the past were different. One was when a lecture from a District Convention contained recordings produced by the Watchtower Society of songs from the new songbook. That was removed from Internet Archive after they complained. The other was the recent WTComments You Tube video which included a picture of their copyrighted script. You Tube took that down when the WT Society complained.
I don't think they can complain about something that is simply an audio of a lecture from a District Convention, especially if it was given in a public place.
Having said that, they could complain just to try to get it off the Internet. I doubt they'd do that, but if you want the lecture it might be best to download it just in case.

I'll pass on the thanks to the person who actually recorded the lecture.
Yeah, it's the last talk of the convention. I agree he didn't sound enthused and I'm surprised he referred to how "some of the brothers" are confused about it.
I imagine some of the old-timers are probably a bit skeptical about this.

From file description:
"Remain in the Secret Place of the Most High," audio recording from the 2010 "Remain Close to Jehovah" District Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses. Discusses the latest interpretation of "this generation" in Matthew 24:34. The speaker explains about the new interpretation: "We're going to just glance at that a little bit, because some of the brothers have had just a little difficulty putting it together. It's a little bit of an adjusted understanding, and then some clarification on that adjustment." At 23:30 minutes the new interpretation is explained: the "generation" has 2 overlapping life-spans of "anointed" Jehovah's Witnesses: one from "anointed" Jehovah's Witnesses from the 1914 era and one from today's "anointed" Jehovah's Witnesses. Lecture recorded at public meeting held in the Tucson Community Center in Tucson, Arizona on May 30, 2010.

It's still likely to put you to sleep, however. :)
