Questions for JWs
by Ellie inhi everyone, been away for a while so firstly just want to say hello, hope you are all well.. theres a really interesting thread about witnesses running on another board, loads of people are asking basic questions like "why dont you celebrate xmas" etc, and a whole load of witnesses are answering, obviously happy to increase their hours.. i just thought id be evil and ask you lot for some awkward questions to ask them.. so come on, give me your worst.. by the way, the other forum is not witness related at all..

New Society DVD - Review
by Zico ini just got home from a wonderful evening out at a 'brother's' house.
after a good meal shared with some other brothers and sisters, you can't imagine my excitement when the host brother brought out the wonderful new society video that he'd recently received at the kingdom hall, and suggested we watch it!
now, as you can probably imagine, this was my idea of how to have fun on a saturday evening.

It's so freaky hearing and seeing Sam Heard in the society literature and videos. He came from our area and actually spoke at my pioneer school. I ate lunch with him. Weird!

Repulsed by the thought
by serendipity inyesterday, i was cleaning out the dark recesses of my purse and found the blood card.
i was going to throw it away but stopped.
after doing some research on blood in the bible, i no longer believe in the jw blood doctrine.

My younger sister went into the hospital for a routine operation and there ended up being some complications. She would have died if it had not been for a blood transfusion. I don't know what I would have done if she had died. I asked her later if she felt weird. She said no, but told me she would never tell our mother. My sis and I are both d-effed, but our mom is still an active witness. She'd freak if she knew.
Another point that is interesting to me and helped me be convinced that refusing a blood transfusion is kin to murder is Jesus' healing of a man on the Sabbath:
Luke 6:6-11
"Now it happened on another Sabbath, also, that He entered the synagogue and taught. And a man was there whose right hand was withered. So the scribes and Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him. But He knew their thoughts, and said to teh man who had the withered hand, "Arise and stand here." and he arose and stood.
Then Jesus said to them, "I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?" And when He had looked around as them all, He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he did so, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. But they were filler with rage, and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus"
Jw's refusing their members to save their lives with a blood transfusion sounds like the Pharisees being filled with rage over Jesus healing on the Sabbath, doesn't it?

Mom Died -- and I found out from an old friend!
by BrendaCloutier inok, i'm writing this thru tears as i just found out in the last 5 minutes.
my dad died in august, and they had been together just 1 or 2 weeks over 70 years married!
i didn't expect her to last without him, and visa versa.. i just tried to call my sister, and no answer there.

What a sad turn of events! I would be fuming at my sister as well. It's sad, but true, that the majority of JW's feel that WE made the choice to leave, therefore we made the choice to have no family. My mother (when we used to speak) used to tell me that it was my choice to sin and be disfellowshipped and my present state of no contact with family was a direct result of my own actions. Kind of f-ed up, but it probably is the point where your sister is, Brenda. She sounds like a true gem
I am sorry to hear of your loss and the horrible circumstances behind finding out. Pray often and ask for peace. God will calm your troubled heart and spirit. Christian love, Charlene.

Where do JW's take their breaks today?
by moshe ini was at a buffet restaurant on saturday for lunch and noticed a boy around 10 years old at the ice cream sundae bar- he had a suit on- .
i was curious as to where jw's take their breaks today and what times they stop for one.
i am on paid leave from work and would like to look for more opportunities to talk to them..

I agree with parakeet. Though, I know it would make me feel better to plant a few seeds of doubt, I would much rather do this with an adult. That 10 year old has years of living with his JW parents and what can he do now if he did have doubts? Nothing.
If someone approached my 10 year old and said something to them about how great the Witnesses are and would he like a pamphlet, I'd want to hunt them down and beat them. It goes both ways.
Those comments are better said to adults.

I'd never wear dresses to the meetings and be as disruptive as possible. After about 6 months of reinstatement I would claim to be annointed. And, I'd lie on my monthly time sheets, claiming more time in service and several non-existant bible studies, of course.
Its funny, now that I don't believe its the true religion...I could do whatever I wanted to with no FEAR!

I got a letter this week from an old friend
by nsrn ini'm musing over a letter i received in the mail, from by childhood best friend.
it's a brief newsy letter asking about my parents, recalling some fun times, and recounting her happy 23 years of pioneering.
her 14 year old son stays busy with preparing for meetings..... we were best friends from age 6 or 8. we spent every weekend at each others' houses.

NSM, the letter idea was probably her way of converting you back. But, it probably also held a duel purpose of letting you know how well she is doing and that your decision to leave was foolish. I like the idea listed above of sending her a letter with the simple statement: "and your telling me this, why...?" Or simply tell her how happy your life is WITHOUT the JWs in it.

lisavegas,
I live 5 minutes from the local KH. Not once have any elders tried to see where I stand, after leaving 5 years ago. My brother-in-law is an elder. I have seen him once in the past year and he didn't even look at me. Besides that I have no ties with anyone in the organization. So your not alone.
