The obvious point of my post though, was that based on the defining characteristics described in De 13 – the WTS (who claims to speak on Jesus’ behalf) and you, YK, are false prophets.
Seriously following your prognostications, or those of the WT would be the equivalent of the Israelites wandering the wilderness indefinitely, with Moses telling them soon, soon, soon, we’ll be entering the promised land. Do you think they’d have gone for 120 years of that?
Did Jehovah expect them too? Then why provide the many evident miracles secondary to Jehovah’s promise that occurred to sustain Moses authority and connection to God – as his true spokesman?
As Jesus (the true prophet said): “The scribes and the Pharisees (or any others who falsely claim divine authority) have seated themselves in the seat of Moses . . . for they say but do not perform.”
So even with him, performance was an issue.
I repeat: I realized that in endlessly going door to door (just as YK endlessly rants) with this “sky is falling” message – and then having people see that the sky never falls – only served to dishonor God, and made the scriptures a laughing stock. What kind of faith does this “boy who cried wolf” fairy tale create? What kind of confidence does this failed message inspire? None - except to frighten people into jettisoning their lives in favor of serving and enriching a human corporation.
Performance was an issue with me as well.
for me it was when i was about twelve years old and my best friends dad was disfellowshipped from the congregation.. i could not understand how a god of love would treat someone so coldly.. i used to think what if that was the way my parents would treat me if i had done something wrong, that would be so hard and cruel.. as i got older another thing that bothered me was the beard issue.
it may sound pretty trivial however the society has always refused to make a good arguement as to why they would give you the old cold shoulder if you were to grow one.. two more items; first i could not understand why all the congregations and all the assemblys would give income reports.
and the society never did.
Good question, and in my case, an easy answer:
When they took the mention of creator’s promise of a new system before the generation of 1914 (blah, blah) out of the Awake masthead.
I still remember it clearly. I was out in service and noticed the change in the way they worded it. No warning, no explanation, nothing. I guess the creator doesn’t honor his promises – or more to the point, the creator never had anything to do with the establishment of this rag in the first place. I felt I had been treated so shabbily. Would Jesus handle his followers in such a cold, indifferent way? I think not.
Anyhow, it took a few more years to before I pulled the plug. But that moment was definitely the start of the dominoes falling.

This time I have to agree with logical. Deuteronomy 13 says it all on this subject: specifically, how to identify and feel about false prophets (YK for example). How can anyone, or any organization for that matter endlessly dance on the head of that particular pin. It’s so ludicrous.

If you’re going to claim to be “God’s channel” of communication – I think it’s reasonable that people would have certain expectations of anyone attaching themselves to that high office. And the WTS (including YK) have failed miserably according to the bible’s own litmus test. This argument is so redundant.

I’m not so sure about this, as I personally doubt that the GB experiences much fear over anything; although I do hope I’m wrong. I imagine that they are to well insulated (from the consequences of their actions) to feel much, and they are protected by a phalanx of lawyers and whatever other defenses that virtually unlimited resources can buy.
In my experience, most JW’s are in it because they WANT to be – the facts have little bearing on this emotional decision. As long as one holds to this “will to believe” it wouldn’t matter if the GB set their hair on fire and ran naked through the streets of Brooklyn. The R&F would just view it as a test of faith. Until one is ready to escape, for whatever reasons, the light of truth (in the form of information or exposure) does not penetrate.
Not that we should all give up trying. . . I’m just making a minor point.
By the way, I have to give Bowen credit for showing up at a convention. The man has GUTS! I wouldn’t walk through that snake pit in his shoes for anything. Except maybe to protect some kids, as it seems he is doing.
