I'm well aware the WTS does not encourage its youths to go to college. I was referring to their claims that these youths will be treated with respect and not prejudice. I'm referring to the claims that the WTS and JW's as a whole are not enemies of college education. Did they not make these claims in publications of the 90's?

I'm asking any fellow witness to justify the WTS treatment of college youths in light of these claims. We needn't talk about praising these youths, no! Far from it! lol Let's start with merely acknowledging them!

My issue is not with WHO the WTS DOES PRAISE. I'm talking about acknowledging the presence of college youths in God's household... yes just a little bit of recognition... no need to dig deep for a praise.... where's the aknowledgement? As i have said before every other type of witness gets acknowledged, not necessarily praised, acknowledged... for their efforts in christian service, for sticking to high moral codes.

Why then are college youths side-lined as if they have committed a sin? If they haven't, why the silence? Is college a dirty word? Why must further education be whispered about if it is not wrong? So has there actually been a change in Witness practice or is the "new policy" merely lip service?

What is said in our publications doesn't seem to match what is practised in the Halls. Should we make this known to our householders/ RVs/ Bible studies? Or shall we spring this surprise on them after they emerge from the baptism pool??

i was thinking about one of jesus' parables today; the one about "the unmerciful servant" in which jesus tells of a servant who implored his master, the king, for patience in settling a debt.

the master took pity and forgave the debt, whereupon the servant went to a fellow servant who owed him money.

as with the first servant, the other servant pleaded for time to pay, but instead of being merciful, as the king had been to him, he exacted the full penalty for a bad debt, having him thrown into prison.

Dear metatron

Not that I choose to disagree with scripture, but how does one "rejoice" when a disfellowshipped christian has lost family (never mind friends) over something as trivial as a difference in beliefs? Where is the cheer in seeing a believing family member think ill of you all the time? Give you the cold shoulder treatment? Talk to you only when they really really have to? All this for choosing to think that the WTS does not have the truth?

It has even acknowledged that college education may be necessary in certain job markets today. And the WTS has very generously suggested that decisions on education are of a personal nature. No one should judge a Christian's decision in this regard.

My question then is: If the WTS and the brotherhood of Witnesses do not judge college-going Witness youths, why have the latter been completely side-lined at talks, demonstrations, experience-sharing? I have never once heard a speaker make a peep about their efforts to stay loyal to the organization. Surely these youths also juggle studies with their christian activities.

Talks tell the elderly, the sick, the kids, the servants, the sisters, the school-going youths, the pioneers, there are talks to re-assure each of them that God will not forget their works and sacrifices.

College youths? They are only mentioned in passing, in talks about education, and that only as a DISCLAIMER!!!

I have never seen a college youth step up to a microphone and tell the audience that it IS possible to go to college AND be a good WITNESS.. followed by the famous "I have no regrets" line.

If one chooses to 'glamorize' the ONE career option for youths and not even ACKNOWLEDGE the other at ALL meetings, assemblies and conventions, can it be genuinely said one is unbiased towards college education?

If our retort is that meetings and assemblies must encourage youths to put God's Kingdom interests first, then are we saying that: 1) College going youths do not? 2) College youths do not EVEN if they try keeping up with a spiritual routine, hence their efforts are negligible?

My challenge to any witness out there is this:

Prove to me the WTS is genuinely concerned about college youths! Prove to me we have not in recent years "embraced" supplementary education only as a ploy to avert criticisms that JW's are against further studies!

If one cannot prove with deeds, save the rhetoric. Was it not once said "Religion is a Snare and a Racket"?

To have an opinion that strongly contradicts a group and to be disfellowshipped as a result is understandable. Effectively that means if you don't want to play by their rules, you are not wanted in that circle. This principle, at its most basic level, can be seen in bunch of kids at play.

What is truly sinister is the practice of transforming that disfellowshipped person into a PARIAH not only to fellow witnesses but ALSO to his/her own family members! If I did not kill anyone, molest any kid, seduce anyone's spouse, if one merely disassociated/ got disfellowshipped for believing that the Witnesses do NOT have the truth, by what right do the WTS command my folks not to ask how my day was nor to have a meal with me?

It simply doesn't make sense. That to leave an organisation on the basis of belief alone, one must forfeit believing family and friends. Is public stoning any less painful? At least it would put one out of one's misery. For those who've had to endure such an experience, I truly sympathise with you...

Hi Miss_MG! I'm not overly concerned about people finding out about my skepticism. To them, doubts are a sign of a weak faith. And neither side is under the delusion that I'm a model Witness. No, what they must never find out is how I've been actively researching and ascertaining the legitimacy of WTS methods and the honesty of WTS teachings: actions which can more readily be taken as the first steps to apostacy.

They will never have the luxury of disfellowshipping me. I will choose when and how, should I want to formally sever ties.

More about myself huh?

Well, I'm a young witness who is working out what he wants to do with his religion at the moment. The luke-warm (occassionally arctic chilled) love bestowed upon me by the local cong coupled with recent unresolved discrepancies from reading the Awake compelled me to seek secular sources of information for the TRUTH or what isn't. Ironic how reading the Awake opened my eyes to a problem with Witness philosophy.

So I've ceased all normal Witness functions, and have played the fading technique (i didn't even know there was a name for this strategy until reading about it on another thread). Can't allow them to disfellowship the incovenience that I've become cos I love my folks dearly and I don't want to see them hurt. I'm at uni so i live away from my folks.

Was there a drama? What were released?

Haven't been to a meeting in ages. You're probably wondering why I give a monkey's furry bottom then huh?

Well, my folks aren't aware of my truancy and i'm happy keeping it that way cos I would not hear the end of it if they did.

I would Loooooove to ask one of the local witnesses, but i would prefer to forgo the plastic smiles and the 144,000 questions that will follow my initial enquiry.

So the info would really really help.
