i thought in this hounding season we could have a little list of comebacks to jdub invitations to the memorial.. kinda like a reasoning book witnessing tool in reverse.. i thought of one just today;.
when the dub inevitably says this is the one thing we are commanded to do in the bible;.
you might respond with; really could you please show me from the bible where it says we are to observe .
"I would be more than delighted to attend your Memorial!! It will be such a blessing to share with you my gift of the Spirit. The Lord's power often energizes me in shakes and fits when I receive the cup of wine. It's at that point that I occasionally yell out the words of God: exposing the sinners among his flock. I reveal names of pedophiles, hypocrites, false prophets, carpet-eaters and goat-humpers. All things will be naked and openly exposed.... even I."
"Godbless! See you that night!"

"I am struggling with a serious drinking problem. Taunting me by passing wine around without drinking it is cruel and unusual punishment. I must use my God-trained conscience to completely abstain from this. I MUST ABHOR even the fragrant FUMES of the wine. The Holy Scriptures tells me I must completely remove from my midst that which is making me stumble."
"You say I won't get to drink it and yet I get to inhale the fragrant fumes of the red wine. Isn't that a compromise of my alcohol-free stance? Can I truly tell my AA group that I've been abstaining from alcohol when droplets of wine waft into my nostrils and into my body? Hmm? If a man is to completely abstain from a substance, surely you wouldn't allow that same substance to enter his body through other means.... in miniscule amounts? Would you?"

to be recommended for eldership you must first show yourself worthy through works, such as meeting attendance and participation, field service hours and having the "right attitude" (meaning they are organization men).
many ms will become elder's shadows, in hopes to be recommended by them for eldership.
nepotism and bias runs in my congregation.we have 4 elders who are all related.
Not really. Well, not always.
The congregation that I grew up in initially had a shortage of penises. So they appointed any "decent" brother they could get. "Decent" meant sexual prudishness, vanilla fashion sense and little teaching/thinking ability. It was difficult to respect them even then, as a believer.
So in that congregation and in those years, there wasn't yet a problem with cliques of men doing favours for their buddies. Male publishers climb the ranks quickly if there is little membership in the patriarchy. As my congregation grew and split, some power-hungry young brothers moved to small congregations with little male competition. They understood the system. They were playing with the formula. And it worked.

"one could also advance the argument that the Bible contradicts itself. This is because the Bible was written by humans over a period of many hundreds of years. It is a hodge-podge of writings, edited and redacted by people..."
Dear Rapunzel, if OBVES has actually deigned to read your comments to the start of those words, it is at that point that your words provoke thinking in OBVES like water penetrates TEFLON. Good luck!

I have Firefox but even I can't open it!
So what does the West need to know about Islam?
my wife burst into the computer room and found me {gasp} talking with apostates on this site!
now she doesn't go witnessing anymore and only very rarely goes to a meeting...but talking to apostates is not on!
i quickly closed down but had to log-off later so she doesn't find out that iam "witness 007.
My elder Dad caught me on this site once. At a glance, he didn't know what to make of it. Cos the site's called "Jehovah's Witness Discussion Board" not "Ex-JW discussion board".
Bet he tried re-tracing my steps on the PC when I wasn't home. Too bad I scrapped the history.
Why did your wife "burst into the room", W007? Did she think you were looking at hardcore porn?

i need some help on the holy trinity.
my husband is studying with the witnesses (he's not one of them yet), and is totally buying into the idea that god, jesus and the holy spirit are all separate, not (as i've tried to explain) separate, but also one in the trinity.
i have pointed out the scriptures in john that reference god as the word, and then jesus as the word later.
I hate to say it, but the bORG is more correct on the nature of God and Jesus than trinitarians are, which leads us to the "Who is Michael the Archangel?" question... My answer to that is- Who is buried in Grant's tomb? ;) Said boldly, Last Nephilim. Kudos INQ

Any attempt to lend legitimacy to the Trinity doctrine without acknowledging its historical development is plainly unintelligent and dishonest. If reason must prevail to rescue anyone from JWism then that same power of reason must be applied to any other mass-swaying dogmas. Those of you who advertise your interpretation of the scriptures ought to already know that there are other ways of disproving your concept of Jesus (yes it is not JUST the holy spirit's role that is assailable). As a rule, I've always been careful of people who go sola scriptura and with a dismissive laugh (not unlike George Bush's) tell you that it is the simplest thing to comprehend. I mean haven't you learnt ANYTHING from your experience in the Org??? INQ "When Jesus Became God - The Struggle to Define Christianity during the Last Days of Rome" Richard E. the last time i went out in service was 8 years ago.
i hated field service.
i made my short presentation of the watchtower or awake magazine.
It has been said before and I have now found this to be true: Witnesses have an over-inflated view of their significance in society.
I have not been visited by Witnesses in a year. Since they last knocked on my door, they have subsequently failed to follow-up (some stuttering, elderly sisters left mags, I couldn't bring myself to "engage" them in a discussion or reveal my identity).
Friends who discover my religious background happily enquire about JW beliefs. "Happily" because they know that they are not at risk of hearing a sales pitch from me. Most of my friends know very little about JWs other than their door-knocking compulsions and birthday aversions. Speaks volumes about the success of their "God-given" assignment, really.
