As for tour guide training, all there is to it is that you shadow another experienced tour guide for a tour or two. You have a step by step outline that corresponds with the tour route, so it's a no-brainer. There may have been a thing or two that I forgot about it, but no, it is not extensive training. In fact, if you have family visiting you can get a fast pass and give them their tour yourself regardless of what department you are in. Only certain departments are "on the list" of depts. that contribute tour guides. If you are in construction for example, you are usually not trained to give tours. I was in mailing at first, so I got to give tours in both English and Spanish. As for money, YES. There was almost always the green handshake at thew end of the tour. I've gotten up to 100 dollars for a tour before. You are allowed to keep the money too. I figured out once how much I was averaging per month on tours and it was about 70 dollars per month. Considering that out reimbursement was only 90 dollars a month this was a considerable sum.

I have another XJW advice article if anyone could use it
by IsaacJS2 inhttp://www.atheistgeeknews.com/xjw04whytheyactweird.shtml.
i tried to explain some of the bizarre behavior and conversations that exxers like us have to go through with wt friends and family.
a lot of us find it hard to stand up to the parents, the elders, and all that, especially because we tend to see them as innocently "doing what they think is right" or "meaning well.

The whole "world being round thing has been debunked for thousands of years. Actually, for one, the church used to use the scripture in question, in Isaiah, to prove that the world is FLAT! That's right FLAT. It was suppoed to be a flat circle. The other thing is that it is a MYTH that ancient peoples believed that the world is flat. Most cultures knew from ancient times that the world was a sphere. It was only SOME cultures, particularly European cultures that thought the world was flat, and these people got their belief from non other than THE BIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Summerian, Egytian and many other cultures had a tradition of a spherical earth and moon etc.

Is Being A Jehovah's Witness a Mental Disorder?
by Amber Rose infrequently i have seen the subject of borderlind personallity disorder mentioned on this board.
many people here feel that friends or relatives display many of the charactaristics of the disorder.
people with histories of abuse seem to be drawn to this religion.

I think it is inability to synthesize information and to think critically. There may be emotional blocks that cause the inability to think critically. There is a theorist who describes different levels of knowledge synthesis, I can't remember his name but the final level is critical thought. JWs are not at that level. Even the so-called educated ones. I have known many many people who have advanced degrees but who can not be self-critical.

Atheists, Agnostics: Do you still pray?
by Eh infor people who left, not only the organization, but also the canaanite/judaic/christian/islamic/bahai god, do you still pray?
before we left the group we (my wife and i) were questioning the bible and the existence of god.
being witnesses, we were uneducated and never heard of things like pascal's wager, but we (my wife especially) had come to a similar idea - even if the whole thing were ballocks, there was little harm in continuing.

I'm from a religion where prayer is always in the form of a person banging their heads against a wall and scratching fingernails on a chalkboard. I figure I want to hedge my bets, so I just keep banging my head against the wall. I figure it can't hurt any, right?
