Becka, can you find these WT quotes? I would love to show them to my wife. I can't believe they would put something like that in writing.
No problem, Claw, I'll look 'em up and post them shortly.
-Becka :)
inspired by one of the other threas on todays board i was remindedof what the po of my 'then' cong' said just befors i left for good.. can't remember what the subject was but he ended up quite proudly announcing.....'if jehovah asked me to.....i would have no trouble killing someone, i would find it easy'!!
stunned silence.......this man is now a circuit overseer!
the phrase 'crazed extremist' comes to mind.. what was the most unbelievable, outrageous thing that was uttered in your earshot.

On one hand, I'm completely and utterly shocked that someone who professed to be a Christian would say this.
On the other hand, he's a JW, and with them, nothing surprises me anymore.
I've read posts on here about people who were threatened with stoning while being disfellowshipped, except that because of the law, murder is illegal.
I've read WTS quotes that say that JWs would gladly kill apostates if the laws permitted it.
Such a loving crowd.

edit: i changed the subject of this thread, just to be more specific and get more attention.. .
hi guys, .
ok, so i was talking to my jw boyfriend a few days ago (heh, how many of my threads start out like that??
I would love to read this post and the replies but the writing goes off the end of my screen and it is far too much trouble to scroll back and forth every line.Maybe my screen is too small. What size should I get?
Yeah, I get the same thing. Sometimes, the threads get really wide and I'm not sure why, it might have something to do with the text wrapping.
For me, I just scroll over, there's a scroll bar on the bottom of my screen that lets me scroll across to read the words that go off the end of the screen. It's still narrow enough for me to scroll over and be able to see it all on the screen at the same time, I just can't see the poster's information (avatar, age, etc.).
I don't know how to fix it, but it might just be easiest to copy and paste the posts into a word processor, even something as simple as Notepad or Wordpad, just for the sake of being able to read them.
And everyone else, I'm sure there's lots of people out there who can help point me in the right direction, please help me out here!!

two weeks ago my wife had a miscarriage at 11 weeks.
it is very sad as it was to be my first child and my wife is already 39. what hurt the most though is that none of my immediate family contacted me.
i was d/f in january and did not expect to hear regularly from my parents and sister.
((((((((jwfacts and wife))))))))
My heart goes out to you, jwfacts, it's unbelievable that your family, your own flesh and blood, wouldn't contact you when something like this happens, all because a bunch of old men in Brooklyn says not to. This time is hard enough for you, you shouldn't have to deal with your family's ignorance and hurtful behaviour, too.
It makes me so angry that a group of people can have so much control over their followers as to tear families apart. If I didn't know better, I'd day that this sort of thing couldn't happen because nobody would cut their family members out of their lives just because someone said so.
I know that this board is no replacement for your family, but I hope you can find some comfort here and know that we're here for you when you need us. If you need anything, you know where to come.
My condolences to you and your wife, and I hope your family can see the error of their ways and accept you back into their lives.

i find it hard to be sympathetic to polygamists who are offended by the hbo comedy.
for me the idea of mormon polygamy so disturbing, that i cringed when the california zephyr (amtrak) crossed the colorado/utah border traveling into utah, i immediately got the creeps.
it was just eery.
I was actually reading an article from MSNBC yesterday about polygamy and Mormons.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11548419/
In Salt Lake City, a judge was removed from the bench recently for having three wives, even though bigamy (or in this case, polygamy) is illegal in Utah (hmm, home of the Mormons, imagine that). Apparently, he's married to three sisters and has 32 kids between them all, and he was married by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a fundie sect of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. (Wait, how the hell did he manage to get married three times in a state that prohibits plural marriages??)
I agree with FHN, the concept of polygamy is creepy. Really, no woman is going to want to share her husband with other women, that's just not right, and like FHN said, not all of the women involved in plural marriages are there voluntarily.
They might not promote polygamy anymore, but just the thought of it still makes me really glad that I'm not a Mormon.

i'm sure i can find some biblical reference about fluff.... what about.... "man cannot live on bread alone, everyone needs fluff once in a while" - pharasees 1:3.
There is a distinct lack of fluff here this weekend, and I think some posters are suffering from withdrawal. I actually started a doctrine thread earlier and it has a whopping 9 posts, half of which are mine. I guess that some days, JWD is just more interested in fluff, and this must be one of those days.
Unfortunately, I'm all out of fluff at the moment, and I'm too lazy to go find a decent piece of Scripture to desecrate. I'll surely take a peek at some of my favourite passages in a while and see what I can do with them, though. Hey, I can't pass up a good fluff thread!!

now, that i'm in my forties...heading toward fifty, fast; i feel old.
i feel like i've wasted a good part of my life with religious hang-ups!
i think that i would have done a lot of things differently had i not been raised the way i was.
Do I feel old?? Depends on when you ask.
If it's been a long week at school, I haven't slept much, I've spent too much time doing homework and I haven't eaten as much as I should have, then yes, I feel very very VERY old. Some days, after a few nights of only getting maybe 4 hours of sleep and not eating regularly, I feel like I'm 80 years old.
But, if I'm eating and sleeping well and I'm not too overworked, then I feel like a 12-year-old!! It also helps that I haven't changed at all, physically, since junior high, so I still look young, too!!
Right now, I'm feelin' pretty good, I slept lots last night, I'm cooking some tortellini for supper and I'm gonna veg out in my PJs with a good 80s movie and some popcorn later on, so right now, I'm definitely feeling really young!!

Thanks for the links, rebel8, I'll make good use of those.
You may want to mention the WTS tobacco stock thing too.
Ooo, I remember reading something about this on another thread, can someone point the way to some good solid information about this??
