Can someone explain the whole Armageddon/judgement thing to me??
by Super_Becka ini've been doing a lot of research lately about jws and their beliefs for various reasons, not the least of which is curiosity (don't worry, i'm not converting - i'm curious, not insane!!
), and i've come across a few things that don't make much sense to me.
well, most of these things don't make sense to me, but some stand out more than others.. so, in my wanderings, i've seen lots about whether or not jws believe that they're the only ones who get to survive "armageddon" and live in "paradise earth" and such, and the general answer tends to be, "well, others will get the chance to be resurrected at "armageddon", too, if they're worthy", or something like that.

Help with flip-flop doctrines
by Super_Becka ini have another thread going on practices and objects of pagan origins that are permitted by the wts, so now i'm looking for a more concise look at the organization's flip-flop doctrines.
i know they're scattered all over this forum, but i'd like a nice list of some of them here, on one thread, because i don't have the time to look them all up myself here.. let me start with:.
) blood - blood fractions are now permitted as a matter of conscience (anyone have references and/or dates for this from wt or awake!

Tree-worshipping, Protestant pagan...
by Super_Becka in... and damn proud of it!!.
if that's what celebrating christmas with my family and friends makes me, then i wouldn't have it any other way!!
i consider myself a christian, a pure-bred anglican (church of england, which is protestant, so i agree with at least part of that title i've been granted by sweetscholar), but if celebrating the holidays with the people that mean the most to me makes me a tree-worshipping pagan, then i guess that's what i am.. merry christmas everyone!!.

JWs and paganism
by Super_Becka inok guys, i've been contemplating the world of the jws - which isn't an especially good idea because the more you think about it, the less sense it makes - and the whole "we don't do anything pagan" thing is really getting to me, just because it's so hypocritical.. so what i'm looking for is this - a list of any and all pagan practices that are just fine, according to wts rules and regulations.
anything big or small that's not banned by the wts but clearly has pagan origins.. and to make myself clear, i'm not looking to argue, i'm not looking to irritate any of the jws we have lurking around here (sweetscholar comes to mind), i'm just looking for a list, plain and simple.. let me start:.
) windchimes.

How does one deal with a JW at Christmas??
by Super_Becka inok, i'm looking for a little more advice.
it's christmas, i'm an exceptionally festive person (seriously, i start listening to christmas music the day after halloween, i'm not kidding, i love christmas!!
), and as anyone who's read my other topics and posts knows, i'm dating an unbaptized, inactive jw who hasn't been to the kh in forever but still completely and utterly despises christmas and all things associated with it (and other holidays, too, he just hates celebrations).. so the question is, how does one deal with this situation??

Quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson
by Super_Becka ini was reading some quotes from ralph waldo emerson just now, and one really stuck out in my mind.
it made me think of the wts and what it has become in the last 130 years or so.. "every great institution is the lengthened shadow of a single man.
his character determines the character of the organization.".

WTS views on theatre and film
by Super_Becka inok, this is something that i've been wondering about for a while now, so i figured i'd ask my favourite jw forum about it.
of course, it wouldn't surprise me if nobody has even considered this, but it's worth a shot to ask.. does the wts have any doctrine against theatre and film, other than the generic "don't watch anything with an r-rating"??.
my reason for asking this is as follows:.

So why do I feel like a hypocrite??
by Super_Becka inok, so i've been doing a lot of thinking about my relationship with my jw boyfriend, and while i haven't made any final decisions regarding what i'm going to do just yet, i can't help but feel like a hypocrite, and i feel terrible about it.. jws are so intolerant, they can't accept others who are different than they are, they try to force their beliefs and rules on others, they judge others based on wts standards and such, so how does it make me any different to judge him on his beliefs??
i never judge people based on their belief systems or lifestyles unless it hurts someone else - i grew up being taught that everyone is different, that doesn't make them bad and that we shouldn't judge others because they're different, my mother's favourite saying is "to each his own" and i follow that myself - so why am i considering breaking up with my boyfriend because his beliefs are different from mine??
i'm trying to decide whether or not to break up with him - it's not an easy decision, he's a great person and he treats me very well - but i can't help but feel like i'm no better than an intolerant jw, judging him based on his religion.

Question about Christmas
by Super_Becka inok, i'm fairly new here and to the whole mess that is the realm of jws and the wts, introduced to this odd world because i'm dating an inactive jw (that's a whole other ball of wax, check out my other topic on this - http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/20/101985/1.ashx), but i've been doing some research and there's one question that's been really bugging me.. jws don't celebrate christmas, i think we all get that.
they say that christmas is pagan and therefore satanic and all of that, so they've banned the celebration of christmas (among other christian holidays).
i figured that it had been like this since the beginning of the wts back in the 1870s, but i've found references to articles published in the watchtower magazines in the early part of the 20th century that state that christmas is a good time of year, that giving and charity and all of these things that come with the christmas season are good and that celebrating christmas is a good thing.

by Super_Becka inok, i'm new here, so please be gentle.
