i found this at indynews....it's time for america to stand up to george w. say 'i ain't yo bitch no mo, dubya!
' he is certainly trying to pimp us all out.
read and weep.
It must be nice to be live in a little glass world full of tree huggers and do gooders.Out here where we work for a living, where the economy depends on things like agriculture and petroleum production,we appreciate a man who understands that America (and others)needs food and energy to survive. Both are being produced in an enviromentally sound fashion, but ever increasing regulation would eventually make that impossible.I'm also proud that he's not laying down and taking a beating from the terrorists.Too bad he has to take one from his own country.

it is indeed strange, yet understandable to observe the "kneejerk" reactions you get when you point out possible .
flaw's with the mighty us of a, "god's own country".
even from people who should have learned not to have that .
plm-The point I was trying to make is that we are fortunate to live in a place where we are free to leave a situation(job,school,etc...) where we feel manipulated or otherwise uncomfortable.I realize personal situations may sometimes prohibit this, but our government does not.

The fact that knowledge of world affairs has to take a back seat to making a living for most Americans has nothing to do with ignorance or manipulation. We are mostly a nation of working class people whose goal in life is usually to provide the best we can for our families. We are fortunate to have the freedom to choose our way of life.If you feel manipulated, you're always free to leave.
Ignorance is rampant everywhere(obviously).
Edited to thank Amazing for excellent posts,as always.

OK,I haven't traveled outside of North America, but the reasons are lack of time and money, not lack of interest.Obviously,I can't compare our media coverage to that of other countries, nor do I really know whether or not the average Norwegian or Brit knows more or less about world affairs than the average American does.If they do,that doesn't make them any better than we are.As I said before,I know that keeping up with world affairs is not as important to Americans as keeping up with their bills.
After reading this thread,I suspect that pride does mean something different to most Americans than to others. You say it's fine to love our country, but not to be proud of it...I don't understand how you can love anything (or anyone) and not be proud of it.I am proud of my country,of my home, and of who I am.If you can't be proud of those things, then it's your loss.

What's wrong with pride?I realize that like most other things, too much of it's a bad thing, but I think a certain amount of pride is a healthy thing.I'm proud to be an American, but I don't see that as a slight to other nations. It doesn't make me feel superior to you,Norm,or anyone else, just because you're from another country. At the same time,I don't feel inferior, either.
Is the view of most Americans toward the world fairly narrow?I'm sure it is,in most cases though,it's not because we want it to be,it's because it takes all of most peoples time and money to care and provide for their family. Many Americans simply don't have the opportunity to travel and see first hand what the rest of the world has to offer.I honestly believe, though, that Americans are far more aware of the rest of the world than most of the peoples of the world.
Great thread...
BTW Patio-Please don't change your mind about participating in elections,or trying to be involved in your government.Despite what were taught as JW's,we ARE a part of this world, and we have just as much right and responsibility as anyone to be heard.
