Hi Jgnat,
I like my wines sweet too: Zinfandel, Spatelse & Auselse Reisling, Gewurtzraminer, Asti Spumante, Muscat/Moscato.
There are a few sweet red wines: Porto (very strong), and sangria. There are sweet sparkling red wines, but I forget the names.
Don't worry about the wine snobs, drink what tastes good to you.

Aussies, Shiraz, and Neophyte Drinkers
by jgnat inthis post is in honor of ozziepost, one of our long-standing australian posters.
i am probably posting this in the perfectly wrong time of day, so if one of our australian friends could bump this thread when you are all waking up, i'd appreciate it.. ozziepost is well known for his love offfair with shiraz, an australian wine.. you may not know this about me, but i am a neophyte drinker.
i like to be in charge (is anyone surprised), and acohol unacceptably takes away my sense of self-control.

Hi lost & welcome!
You were fortunate your father took a stand!
When I was a teenager, I started getting told the JW boys were intimidated by my intelligence. My father took me aside and asked me if I was showing off in conversation and warned me about making the boys feel dumb. He said, "You don't have to act dumb, but you don't have to tell all you know either."
I went on to college anyway, despite knowing I'd be limiting my chances at marriage to a JW. And I was still single when I left 20 years later.
I'm still single now, but at least I have some choices. -

does the ability to pray come naturally??
by lostyettobefound inhey guys as you can see i am still new and still keen to hear other peoples points of view on my issues.
anyway i always wondered because i have friends who are pentecostals who seem to have this amazing ability to pray and they feel like they are talking to god.
i never ever felt like i was communicating with someone when i prayed it always seemed futile and it always seemed like a repetition of someone elses prayer.

As I started my journey out of the JW religion, my prayers became more earnest, real and meaningful.

Positive Thinking vs Positive Knowing
by What-A-Coincidence ini got an interesting email that i wanted to share that deals with beliefs.
in this case it deals with financial success but it also applies to doctrinal beliefs.
example: witnesses are positive thinkers but not positive knowers (is that a word?

I don't know that I consider JWs positive thinkers. After all, they think they're right. ;-)

Things YOU eat, that other people think is weird.
by misanthropic inthis mornings events have got me thinking about things.
i love peanut butter, not the sweet kind but i like the old fashioned peanut butter, usually laura scudder's with no sugar or preservatives - it just tastes better imo.
i put it on everything including pancakes which are really good with peanut butter and maple syrup.

by lighthouse19something inmy wife of 27 years is about to pass away, she's requested do not revive or resuscitate, and she is no longer conscious.
her sister wants to put which church she's been attending in her obituary, i don't want to make things difficult for my jw mother, (she knows about our fade) by other jws.

(( lighthouse )) This must be tough for you, without all the JW worries to add to it. I agree with Aude, can't you leave out the church reference? Or, do you have to print an obituary?
