Hmm, Stacy, I gotta disagree. I thought the effects and cinematography were pretty good for Television standards. But then again, I've been watching shows like Enterprise and Aqua Teen Hungerforce lately so maybe I'm askewed.

The problem is that you did not differentiate between those who are unemployed by choice and those who are actively seeking employment. Many people don't work because their S.O. does and choose not to. Others are full time students.

Some Of Us Missing Out On Something?
by Englishman inreading through everyone's posts over the last few years.
broadly speaking, it seems that most of us left the jw's for 1 of 4 main reasons:.
1. anger.. 2. disappointment.

People with such ideas about themselves are the source of much mischief in this world.
Some are, and yet many others are the source of much good in this world. I'm not religious myself, but religion can be a means to a good thing as well. NOt all religious people want to control you or tell you how to live your life. In fact, if you are ever in need you are more likely to recieve help from a religious person. A religious person is less likely to steal from you, a religious person is more likely to add something to society, do good works and raise a decent family. You don't hear about these people in the papers, but look around you, some of these people are your co-workers, neighbors and friends. Theres a lot more good in the world than people are ready to admit.
As far as why I left the JW's. First of all it was a breakdown in my faith in the religion. I took a look at others in the congregation, how they were nothing like what God's people are supposed to be, at least according to the bible that they themselves profess to believe in. Everything seemed legalistic, much like the Pharisees we studied about again and again in the Greatest Man book. They were a stark contrast to Jesus. I just though the whole religion hypocrytical. I began to doubt their doctrines when they amateurishly "explained away" why 'this generation' was dying out by replacing it with the ultimate in CYA explanations. I just simply stopped going and found that my life dd not change for the worse. I didn't really start becoming a worse person and I kept living what they would consider a 'moral' life. And I was a lot happier. It wasn't for two years that I actually was curious enough to do research into their history and beliefs. That was the nail in the coffin for me.

Sadly the CHARGERS
But hey, we beat the Lions! and the Vkings! Next up, the Packers at home where there will be more cheeseheads in the stands than actual Charger's fans, just like last week when I saw them do everything they could to lose to the Chiefs.

Are most people just plain stupid?
by logansrun inwhat an audacious question!
" wow, bradley -- how could you stoop to such levels?
do you consider most people as simple sleepwalkers through life not paying much attention to reason, logic, science, history and a desire to understand?

I have faith in people to ultimately make the right decisions for themselves. If most people were stupid I don't think that civilization would have progressed to the point that it has.
That being said, I think there exists much ignorance in the world and much of that ignorance is sanctioned and encouraged by people in a position of power. Either with money or political or any other form of influence. I think make the false assumptoin that they are intelligent based upon their schooling or achievements and I believe a lot of people are sold short for the same reasons. I think the most intelligent are those who know their purpose in life and are aware of themselves and those around them.

When do you think it is the right age for body contact?
by morty inin hockey that is.....
this is my concern as a mother in the sport...i have 2 boys that play hockey...one is a competive 12 year old player and the other, well, he know longer plays because of a hockey accident, that almost cost him his life a year ago..he is 15 years of age, but at the time of the accident, he was 13...to make a long story short, he was hit from behind and the other player broke 3 of his ribs and rupchurd his spleen....he was in the hospital for 2 very long weeks and transfered from one hospital to another via air lift....he is now almost back to a full recovery but is not aloud to play because of the body contact in the sport.
( doctor will not give him the ok to return yet and i dont feel right about it either)..when he started hockey, he was 9 years old...they had no body contact till he became a "a" player, which happened the following year...now, he was experencied in body checking by the time he played with the other kids.

Theres a time and place for this kind of thing and its called College...
Oh, different kind of body contact.
Well, since you can get seriously hurt or killed playing hockey at any age I guess it comes down to when do you feel your child is skilled enough to take care of themselves on the rink, and when you feel comfortable with them taking the risks of playing hockey.

Keeping up with new light
by stillajwexelder inkeeping up with new light is not easy.
as most of you now know, the wtbts has published an article in the awake march 2002 about earthquakes and admitted that there has been no increase in them since 1914. however, the reasoning book and other publications have not been updated with this information.
so when a jw gives a talk from the platform they still give out old light ?

Exactly, they really don't want you to be a serious bible scholar. Oh they talk a good game about knowing the bible more than anyone, but really, if you're DOING the things they require, thats much more important, isn't it? The specifics aren't important in just making people 'feel good' about the religion the belong to.

And so it begins
by Yerusalyim in.
tom green, the convicted polygamist in utah, is requesting (through his lawyers of course) that the supreme court overturn his convictions based both on the supreme court ruling on the texas sodomy law and the massachucetts supreme court ruling on gay marriage.. so begins the trip down the slippery slope.
