When it reaches a point of "trench warfare" which is just as bad as one not expressing their opinion at all, then yes it becomes quite tiresome.
By now, most of us already know where each other stands politically. I would think it would be wise for people to continue to express their opinions, but show discretion into how far they want to take the discussion. Far too often what happens is a total breakdown of rational debate. Of course, this is up to each individual.
It is obvious that those with a liberal point of view far outnumber those with a conservative point of view on this board, but I don't feel that anyone here has expressed views politically that merits them being labeled as a bad person. This goes for both sides of the issue. I'm sure we are mature enough to think of someone as having wrong ideas, according to our own point of view, but still seeing the value in their friendship.
I think political debate is great, it keeps us all on our toes, and each and every one of us should be open to the idea that none of us have all the answers. We receive strength through hearing others points of view and those points of view should be welcomed and not shunned.
