Americans are top !
by Simon in.
... at least when it comes to cycling .
lance armstrong and greg lemond have contributed 9 tour de france wins out of 120 starts by us riders which is about 1 in 12. french riders have won more, 36 tours in total, but with 4,730 starts or 1 in 131.. the irish have won a race or two (well, maybe just one).. still beats the brits though ... we have yet to win it !

When I was an MS, our PO pulled me into the elders room (they had a seperate room at our hall) and counseled me for seeing a rated R film. You know, I was supposed to be an example. I guess one of my friends that I went with ratted me out. No biggie, it was an awful movie anyway, An American Warewolf in Paris or something.

Latest "Hope" Is That I'll Come Back After My Daughter's Wedding
by minimus inmy mother told me yesterday that the latest talk that's buzzing around is that after the wedding of my daughter (who is marrying an "unbeliever" aka normal person), my wife and i will come back.
my mom's friend said that the presiding overseer even told her that there's one thing he just can't understand----why i left.
he assumes that i feel badly that my daughter's getting married to a "worldly" aka normal person.

They love to come up with explanations for everything in their head all the while ignoring the obvious. Its pretty much how they can still believe in their way of life.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE
by tresbella indoes anyone think it is wrong to still be a 'wittness' on the outside in order to ensure their family's love and support even though they know inside their living the "double life" i mean i want my family at my wedding and help me buy my first apartment.
i think certain familllies cannot bear the idea of one of their own "falling from the truth" (so it goes) so its a secret i hide.
but my long time boyfriend says i should tell my family how i really feel when we become engaged (he's not a wittness) in the future.

That is certainly your choice and its not the place of any of us to tell you wherther it is a moral choice or not.
I think that a lot of people have to pretend to be something that they are not to gain the acceptance of their family. Its sad that it has to be this way, but its a reality that many people must face. You may come to the point in your life someday though where you are just tired of living a lie. Then you'll have to tell them, you'll feel relieved if thats the case. But how your family reacts is entirely up to them. Most families will not cut you off totally, but will probably think of you in a different light and they will probably treat you differently. Some families have in fact cut off their own family members. I guess you have to know your family and how they will react. If it is simply a matter of dissappointing them, but they won't cut you off you may feel more comfortable telling them how you really feel.
But really in response to your question, I don't think anyone here will mind if you want to act one way to please your parents. In fact, even if you wanted to be a witness I don't think people here would think you were a bad person, we just might disagree with you, thats all

How Many Here Are "Technically" Still JWs???... Who's Not??
by minimus inwhat i mean is according to the society, there are a number of persons that are "technically" "inactive" yet are viewed as jws still.
i'm sure that i'm viewed as a witness still because i am not df'd or disassociated.....what about you??
?

Tres, if they want to they will. Two witnesses be damned. They only use that when they don't wanna disfellowship someone.
Me. Faded in 1999. not DF'd or DA'd. Forced to attend the memorial by my in laws.

My mom is worried!!
by Junction-Guy inmy mom is an ex jw and was disfellowshipped in 1980. she is worried about my upcoming plans to picket the convention, she is afraid that i will get arrested and lose my job.
i told her this is basically something i feel i have to do and the only way to get this off my chest and feel a sense of satisfaction.
i assured her i wouldnt scream or cuss at people but would act civilized and pass out flyers concerning several issues.

If you need a permit and dont have one then they will just ask you to leave, which I suggest you do. That is, if you dont get a permit.
I also want to go on record to say that I don't think picketing is an effective way to make people think.

June 1st watchtower new light from watchtower legal.
by XQsThaiPoes innew policy.. pg17 "young ones, if you live in a land where the laws permits it, do you give god glory by witnessing in school, or do you allow fear of man to hold you back?.
begs the question since public preaching is banned in many places in the east does this mean that there is a whole class of non preaching jws?
pg19 "remember, though, that preaching is just one way in which we bring glory to jehovah.

Yes, a class of JW's who don't preach in schools. But not other times.
