  I respect my dad's intelligence wisdom and ideas more than yours. You aren't always the most balanced of posters. He is a scientist as are most of his circle of friends.

  If I get a note from my mommy can I use it to try to win an argument?

  So because your daddy and his friends and a few vote-seeking governors say something about the almost unfathomable field of macro economics and geopolitical economic forces, you adopt their view?

  You have yet to root out the JW mentality of looking to others to salve your discomfort over the disquieting world oil situation. You seem to want to point fingers and you seem to embrace easy fixes? A petition?

  I am not embarrassed except by some posters' apathy and gullability over this issue. We aren't JW's anymore. We have no excuse for being gullable.

  I don't want to be unkind but you obviously know little about the true reasons the gas price increases and unfortunately they are, as has been repeated in this thread many times, supply and demand.... at the core.

  As to gullability: do you realize that you cited the fact that several governors were signing this petition as an indicant that it might have some value?

  When several governors of states here are suspicious of the big oil companies, then that is big news, Ballistic.

  "Big news" indeed. You poor thing.

  FHN, politicians are not trustworthy. They might acctually do something that plays well with their constiuents....something stunt-like....something ...I dunno'...something like signing a petition to the President to lower gas prices.

  Take Daniel's adbvice and sheepishly let this one slowly slide down on the board.

  The president sets gas prices?

  That wasn't taught in my civics and economics classes.

  If gas is too high stop purchasing it.

  "petition to President Bush to lower gas prices" ...pretty ridiculous.

  My Wife Just Called Me...

  she found an envelope with my name and "personal & confidential" typed on it taped to the door of our apartment.

  i asked her to open it and read it, and evidently there is some evidence of apostacy that they want to review with me this saturday (4-21-06) at 7:30 pm.. the funny thing is that i have not been to a meeting since 1993, the last time i was at a circuit assembly or district convention was 1995!

  i know that i have been spotted going to my church (3 blocks from the king-dumb hell).

  If one of the elders was a Catholic 10 years ago and his former priest visted his home and left a note telling the elder to come to the Catholic Church for a discussion of his spiritual views, what would the elder do?

  The same thing most folks would do: laugh at the audacity of the Priest and move on with our life.

  I think you should follow the Elder's example.

  many of you have been following the book excerpts from captive hearts, captive minds which is being reprinted under its new title take back your life.

  in a recent email from the author, janja lalich, i noticed a url for another book she has published titled bounded choice: true believers and charismatic cults.

  this sounds like an interesting book.

  I have this book and have read it. It is an academic treatment (although the descriptions of Heaven's gate and DWP are narrative). I read her dissertation first...and then bought the book which is not that different.

  It's academic but enlightening. Some of the bounded choice model might work to explain JWs ....if that's possible at all.

  For the casual reader, I'd recommend borrowing from the library over purchase.

  hi there from the rainy west coast of canada,.

  alfie here, as you know i don't get on the board often, but i do read comments occasionally and enjoy all of the things said.

  however, i'm needing some advice and have never seen this subject discussed.

  I have used E-Bay for numerous (100s) of transactions and it's fine.

  Note the advice on this thread and realize that you're dealing with people (the buyers and the sellers) and some are cheats but most are honest.

  The rating system works well and you are able to interact via the "ask seller a question" functionality so .... proceed with caution and confidence.
