  What were the things that troubled you as a JW?

  i'm not necessarily asking for the big stumbling blocks here or things you discovered once you started doing your own research outside the borg.

  i'm talking about the smaller things.. for me one thing was the talk of no one being able to become a witness unless "jehovahs drew them to him".

  as a born-in this never jived with me.

  JW at my sons school tonight

  my son goes to a very competitive and expensive private school in ct. there are two jw families that also go there.

  so tonight he had a choir performance.

  one of the jws is also in choir.

  My son goes to a very competitive and expensive private school in CT. There are two JW families that also go there. So tonight he had a Choir performance. One of the JWs is also in choir. She is a senior. At the end of the evenings performance before they sing the last song it is a school tradition to give all the seniors a gift and tell where they are going to college. So they start with a few kids and the schools are all top colleges(NYU, Colgate, Denison, Brown etc.). Well they get to the girl and the teacher hands her the gift and says she's taking a gap year(meaning taking a year off). My son comes up to me afterwards and says "can you believe that she's not going to college". He said why spend all the money and all the hard work to just stop. He doesn't really know her well, but the other witness girl is in his grade and a friend. He was so upset about the other girl that he said he is going to ask the girl in his grade why?? He said why work so hard for grades and college boards if your not going? He said also that the JW senior is really, really smart and makes high honors. What the hell is wrong with them!!!!

  Well two of my brothers are out with there families. My other brother (ms) removed as an elder and just remade ms, and wife are still staunch JOBOs as well as my Dad who is an Elder Elder(87). My mom died 7 years ago from no blood deal. My dad drives me insane because all he talks about is witness $hit. My brother and his wife see me when I invite them to a party or whatever with all my "worldly friends". They never ever invite us when they have witnesses over..Such hypocrites!! And I am really sick of it..I think I will shun them!!!

  i told my son that i put his myspace.com/nestorband address on here two days ago.

  he said he got about 125 plays from you all.

  his band is called nestor... he was grinning from ear to ear .

He was grinning from ear to ear with all of you checking out the site. He said he will be putting more music and video up right after finals..(He's in 11th grade) He said hope you liked it(not the best recordings done in a basement) but just trying to get out there.

  Again thanks, You guys were way more responsive than my JW family members..

  Wow, my heart hurts for you.. I have two boys 13 & 16 and I just cried while reading your post. I'm happy you went to the river and spoke to him..Not sure what I believe now, but I think we do reach our loved ones someway..I hope you have a wonderful night and I am wishing positive thoughts of love for you and your brother..Peace..

  What about those INTELLIGENT JW's? Did you have any in your cong'?

  i remember as a child being impressed by several older 'brothers' who were well educated and articulate.

  we had guys with degrees and one had a ph.d in some branch of physics - a professor.

  now you know as well as i do that that level of education was, and still is, mightily discouraged by the wt but these guys had managed it somehow.. as an impressionable kid it put 'the truth' on a more secure footing for me, after all if these intelligent men could believe .

  Do you think a JW could be a psychologist?

  i am trying to get my brother to go speak to someone just to help him because he is very depressed(we all know why).

  he said the only person he would speak with is this brother who is a psychologist.

  i really find it hard to believe that a jw could practice with the realization the whole organization is about mind control.

  i spoke with my jw brother yesterday and he sounded so depressed.

  was wondering if anyone could suggest anything.. he is married, no kids ,50yrs old, no college, pretty smart.

  Thanks for you all your comments. Believe or not I went on the Labor website and found two situations that would work for him. Hopefully he will follow through. Also I am trying to convince him to go to counseling. I said I would pay for it. I think that would be a good first step for him...Again thanks, I just posted out of frustration and yet it had a really good outcome

  I spoke with my JW brother yesterday and he sounded so depressed. Was wondering if anyone could suggest anything.

  He is married, no kids ,50yrs old, no college, pretty smart. He has done the construction thing on Long Island NY for years, but never seems to be able to have enough work always just getting by. Does anyone know any programs or ideas on Long Island to get into to learn something new so he could be employed more regularly. I really think he should seek counseling, because as we all know here it's being a JW that is a the center of his issues...
