need some advice
by Champion inhi all...always read seldom post.... i was just wondering if anyone has some advice for me in regard to a career.
i have been home raising kids and know would like to re enter the work force.
i took some design classes early on(in my 20's) but never got a degree.

Just to put bite me in the picture:
"Does every JW have to do a talk? "- You're not forced to but you are 'encouraged' to join the Ministry School and begin by giving a 5 minute Bible reading assignment with maybe a couple of comments.
"Reminds me of speech class where you have to give an oral presntation or you fail the class. Is this kind of the same thing?"- Not really, but you are considered spiritually weak if you don't do it.
" What if you refuse to do your assigned talk or do not want to do the topic that they give you, are you able to do something else or nothing at all?" - Nope. You do the assignment you're given or nothing at all.Generally a man gives the 5 min Bible reading. Two women then have a 5 min discussion on an assigned topic and then a more accomplished man gives a 5 min talk on a Bible topic.
"What if you are shy, and cannot give public talks."- Only long term Ministerial Servants and Elders are given a Public Talk assignment on Sundays which take 45 mins or less now.
" I know I would fail at that, but I guess they teach you to over come that. Well I was supposed to overcome my fear of public speaking in HS when I took speech class, to this day, for the life of me I cannot talk in large crowds. "- No, they don't teach you overcome self consciousness. They tell you you're thinking too much of yourself.
However, many do become competent public speakers albeit with a certain 'religiousy' style. -

How Many Are...Or Have Been Going To Therapy?
by new boy ini only went twice right before i left in 2001.. my then jw wife.... thought in would be a good idea.
she thought all "my angry issuses" were against my dead nazis jw mother.....they were really about me living a lie for over 10 years... so anyway...i went to this dr. and in just 2 visits, told him my whole life story,begining to end.
he did't really say very much.. at the end of the whole thing i said "well doc...you can see that i'm pretty much screwed no matter what i do...if i stay in the cult i'm screwed...and if i leave i'm screwed!.

About 10 years of near continuous therapy and hospitalization new boy and it was extremely difficult but nothing good was going to happen until I did it.
It took me more than 8 years before I could even speak of being a JW to a therapist or group such was my fear of ....of something.
Being here on JWD was the catalyst to unlearn all of my unhelpful thinking and behaviour as a Witness.
Been out of hospital 2 years now!
