"He is a motivational speaker who has also written several books"
Is the 'motivational speaker' industry still booming in the U.S. ?
These guys would have to have fleeced as many people and cut down as many trees as the WTS.
Happily it's a dying fad here in NZ.

Elders want to visit after memorial !!
by lancelink inwell, i attended the memorial last night, and since i have been inactive for some time two of the elders came up to me afterwards.
they want to get together and discuss how to get me active again.
since i am going thru some withdrawal pains, i spinelessly agreed to talk with them this friday evening.

mene, mene is right. If they approach you with the "hard sell" you'll be asked very early if you believe this is Gods' organisation. If you say "no' it's all over for you.
You must be vague and say that you are simply taking some time out to collect your thoughts and you'll let them know.......
Or tell them you're depressed and to leave you alone for a while. -

Is it allowed to make a "interested" unbaptised person an ATTENDANT?
by BBOARD ini am simply asking a question.
calling all ex-jw's in the know.
if a person has been coming to the meeting regularly and is on the tms can they, by the book, be made into a attendant without any declaration to "serve jehovah" aka baptism.

I would imagine a baptised sister with a hat would be in line before an interested man

What's more important??
by The Last Nephilim ini'm placing this into the "scandals and coverups" section for good reason, i think.
a few days ago i had an elder and one of "the anointed" come by to encourage my wife and i to "get back to the meetings before it's too late".
i proceeded to tell him a few of the reasons why i've lost confidence in the elders and the organization, and he retorted with a real- life example of how i need to see that although the "brothers" can make mistakes, it's best to accept it as "jehovah's will" and play along.

Some of you may recall the WT account of an older brother who was counselled for something relatively minor by a younger elder.
When it was found that this older man was not guilty of the matter in question, some time later, the young elder came up to him, apologised, and asked why he didn't say anything.
His response was that 'rightly or wrongly it was good counsel'!
This was held out to publishers as the correct attitude. Doesn't matter if it's TRUE or not just bend over and take it. -

The Future of the Watchtower Society and the Internet
by DT init seems that the watchtower society was very ill prepared for the advent of the internet.
perhaps, some of the governing body thought the end would come before it became a big problem.
now it is a big problem and is only going to get worse.

Now, gerard and honesty, leave OBVES alone. You will only encourage him.
We have the ball and he's not allowed to play.;) -

Living as a former JW
by yknot inwhile i personally have not yet made this jump (final meetings will be first week of june).
i hear many wishing me "happy easter" i wonder how many of you have adjusted?.
i don't think i can unlearn that most holidays are "pagan", after all even the history channel confirms this fact.

All the best yknot.
I don't think I'm a lot different than when I was a hard working dubbie. Couldn't be bothered with Christmas and Easter etc. even before I became a dub. Still can't be bothered!
I've learned to accept people without trying to make their lives 'better', I'm more tolerant.
And after being a worthless failure of a Witness I've learned through therapy and meds. that my life has some intrinsic worth. I couldn't see this as a Witness because I could never keep up with personal study, family study, field service, prayer, meeting attendance and preparation and so on - The things that make you worth something to God and the borg.
I figure you'll have a feeling of liberation and nervousness. -

. "I have absolutely no need to believe in God, and I am in fact sorry that many of you out there need it for a crutch." - startingover
"On this site those that have lost all religious belief have cajoled, ridiculed and generally called those that have retained belief deluded fools. The general undercurrent on this forum for a long time has been "how could you be so stupid to believe in God after getting bamboozled by the JWs?" " - burntheships
Startingover, I think your wording was a bit inflammatory. But I think your preceding comments were about right.
Burntheships, you've made a general statement that I, for one, do not believe to be correct.
My experience has been that most here are quite moderate toward those who believe differently. -
