  I'm reminded of the discussions I used to have that reasoned on the Catholic concept of confession and forgiveness. The conclusion I/we used to come to was that Catholics could pretty much do what they liked, and as long as they confessed their sins, the gates of heaven would remain open to them.

  I would like to think that those with a religious sense of rightness would do right for its own sake and not for fear of eternal punishment.

  The evolved animal knows that he can get what he needs by co-operation with others and not by harming them.

  What of the much noted statistic that the atheist/agnostic makes up only 2% of prison inmates ? What restraints act on the balance of these ones to keep them law abiding ?

  That's right, go straight to........the Society's Lawyers! They'll find some legal way to hush up the potential embarrasment.

  ....and, yes, it is his or hers absolute right to inform the authorities, but it's also his or hers right to accept a blood transfusion. We all know both actions will not end well for the victim.

  Anyone use to have horrible nightmares as a child & afriad of the dark due to all the Watchtower Society talk of Demons and Satan??

  as a little child i used to have horrible, horrible nightmares do to all the satan/ demon and big a talk.

  i was also horrified of the dark for the same reason.

  And Welcome Starr Kachina - " I thought that I had to sleep on my right side because the left side was "evil." I still have no idea where I came up with that one. " - I vaguely recall the Catholics once having the concept of the left side being evil. Something to do with needing to beat left-handedness out of children. Might do a bit of research.

  This is a topic that comes up quite regularly. It's a relief to know that so many ex dubs have had this experience.

  I used to get nightmares about demon attacks up until about 10 years ago when I was 40 years old !

  The moment my eyes were opened to the WTS hypocrisy and I mentally moved on I no longer had these irrational fears.

  I must have had these mares from a very young age because I can vividly recall the drawing of the earthquake and a cat plummeting down the rent chasm in the 'Paradise Lost.,.." book. And I love cats.

  And the big A was always coming at night ! What about the other side of the world ? Thunder and lightning was always the start of Armageddon to my little mind and I knew I was never good enough and that death would be very painful.

  as a youth) it seemed that whenever i went to a meeting, or assembly.

  i would send an incredible amount of time shaking hands.

  We had a particular elder from England that would shake your hand every time he met you. He was the effusive creep of the Elder Body of course.

  Now we live in Australia, I find the custom of shaking hands constantly a bit tiring. It seems to be more common with the European and Baltic expats we see four times a week or more at our soccer club.

  Germs don't bother me but I guess it could be worse.

  Thank God no one greets me with a Holy Kiss !!

  I'm curious, any of you ever wean off of an antidepressant? If so, what side effects did you experience? Any significant emotional changes?

  i'm asking this because i just weaned off of paroxetine (paxil) successfully.

  i say successfully because i'm not naseous or dealing with tremors, however that's not to say everything is peachy.

  i've felt within my brain something like pulses from time to time, as if my brain jumped with no rhyme or reason.

  Paroxetine and Venlafaxine gave me similar reactions to the ones you described. The brain zaps are commonly described by users of a number of anti-depressants. Jerky leg too.

  The "cockiness" and agression thing is interesting. I had this effect too. (I became so fearless on one occasion, I was arrested !)

  All in all coming off years of different anti depressants gave me little trouble except for one of the old tricyclics (Imipramine) I was weaned off them in hospital and the night mares were horrific. I then started a combination of Lithium and an MAOI (Maclobemide).

  The return of libido came with the SSRI medicines but sex is a little quicker than we would both like .

  I've said this before, but anti-depressants are most effective when you combine it with education about your condition which, for me, was time spent in group therapy, reading and feedback from a psychologist. (Fortunately, free for chronic nutcases like me in NZ)
