I can't seem to bring myself to celebrate anything. Even my wedding anniversary is pretty low key.

Fair minded person with a fair point of view
by keo15929 ini have been one of jehovah's witnesses for about 9 years before i became inactive.
i just had some comments i'd like to make.. i think the reason why i'm inactive now is because i've come to a point in my life where i feel obligated to admit that i just don't know.
at one time i was as fiery and zealous of a witness as anyone could be but i had this nagging feeling that i really didn't know what i was talking about when i was witnessing to people.

Welcome keo. I think that many come on this forum with the same zeal and fervour that they came into the 'truth'.
Everything comes rushing out with all the emotion and venom that has been bottled up. It's cathartic for some.
As you know a balance usually settles at some point and you start to move forward.
Look forward to hearing more from you.

A Suicide - the family's thank you note
by Fatfreek ina local man, a non-jw church member, committed suicide last week.
my wife, as usual, prepared a covered dish and took it to their house as an expression of sympathy and to help out.
she just received a thank you card from them and i thought i'd share part of it: .

Thanks for your comments in this thread. In the congregations I was in it was a given that a suicide attempt was grounds for disfellowshipping. It displayed reckless disregard for God-given life and was equivalent to murder. The thoughts usually moved from there to the resurrection of aborted babies, stillbirths and other such speculation.
Like good little dubs we believed what we were told, no need to research for ourselves.
My best mans 16 year old son gassed himself about 5 years ago in Tauranga.(Dads an elder) The funeral was held away from the Kingdom Hall and I think something by Pearl Jam was played through the P.A.! I had some idiot come up to me tut-tutting and saying that XXXX had got involved in listening to debasing music. I remember the joy on the day when that little boy was born.
I'm so sorry to hear of your experience Crumpet, you show a kindness from experience to others on this forum.

Sorry about the late reply Andre, I just checked back on the posts.
You are spot on. You're the first one to connect the pix with the nickname.
I've always had a soft spot for Morrissey/Smiths. -

Why did you choose your USER NAME?
by In Between ini think some people actually use part of their real name.
i chose mine because i really feel 'in between', in that space where your not a jw anymore but really haven't figured out where you are in life and what path you want to take.
just thought it would be an interesting topic.

My avatar is a group shot of The Smiths from Manchester. They have a song called Bigmouth Strikes Again.
Great song and sometimes I put my foot in my mouth.

One of the most irritating things you can say to a Witness?
by free2beme inmy relatives that are still witnesses, always hate it when i say one thing to them, more then any others ... .
"are you going to church tonight?
"were you at church?".
-
bigmouth
Try these:
Refer to an elder or MS as being " high up in the church"
also fawning around a JW in the company of others and make it obvious you're modifying your speech for their benefit or saying every so often, " you don't believe in xxxx do you?".
Offer everyone else a beer but offer the witness something non-alcoholic and vegetarian because " you people don't eat meat do you?"
A 'Jehovah' or 'Jo-Ho' is always good to set teeth on edge. -

How did you............
by lola28 infind jwd?
i found this website while i was looking for the company that you can get service stuff from, i believed it was the "truth" and was a pioneer at the time, not a pioneer anymore.
so how did you get here and what has changed in your life since you found this place?.

Waited until reeaallly late at night, crept out of bed, tiptoed to the office, checking behind me all the time. I turned the computer on and quietly googled 'Jehovahs Witnesses'. I knew what I was doing was bad but I DIDN'T CARE! HaHaHaHaHa.
And then the next day.....I did it again. And again, and again, and again! -

After 4 years, an introduction (hope it works this time!)
by gwyneth inive been a member of this board for just over four years, and i have never posted an introduction.
i mostly stick to the "fluff" threads, because they are safe.
i wont be attacked for an unpopular point of view, or hurt anyone elses feelings.

Well done Gwyneth. You wrote very well and it's good to know of your background. Your honesty was touching.
It's good to remember that not everyone who visits here posts here. Being unnecessarily argumentative or sarcastic can frighten others from moving forward.
