The Japanese will find a way to catch it and eat it. This will be called 'research'.

Giant luminescent squid captured on film for first time
by zensim ingiant luminescent squid captured on film for first timethursday feb 15 12:00 aedtjapanese scientists have released video footage of a live giant squid in what is believed to be the first time the elusive creature has been filmed in its natural environment.
the research team, led by tsunemi kubodera, said they videotaped the giant squid also known as taningia danae using an underwater high definition camera at depths of 240-940 metres off the ogasawara islands in the north pacific.
the female squid, which measured about seven metres long, died while it was subsequently being caught.

Update: Discussion with my wife last night
by Paralipomenon infor those not familiar, i faded from the organization many years ago and my wife hasn't been to any meetings or service in about 5-6 years either.
though she insists she's still a jw so we don't celebrate holidays and the children aren't allowed to participate in holiday activities at school.
i was content for many years to just let her do her own thing, but when the children started going to school i noticed how confusing it was for them.

I have a good feeling about this Pararalipponononamon! The discussion with your son about 'hearts' etc. nearly broke my heart when I think of similar changes of position we've had with our kids.
They just never understood why and I guess we didn't either. -

Taking the p*** out of Aussies
by winnie inmy husband (english) loves this one.. a member of the barmy army, sick of sitting through match after match of cricket with england losing, goes to the doctors and says.

Kiwi, Aussie and a South African sitting in a bar drinking.
The South African finishes his drink, throws the glass in the air and shoots it with his gun.
"Mate! what're ya doing??" says the Aussie.
"We've got so much glass in South Africa we never have to drink out of the same one" he says.
With that the Aussie throws his glass up and blasts it with his gun. "Tell you what matey", says the Aussie, " With the amount of sand we've got in Australia, we never have to drink out of the same glass either.
The Kiwi considers these two blokes, finishes his drink, takes out his gun and shoots the Aussie and African.
"Well, here in New Zealand we've got so many bloody Aussies and Africans we don't have to drink with the same two twice" -

What will it take for me to stop this?
by sibboleth ini have lurked for over a year.

Welcome Sibboleth. I could tell you were one of us by the way you spelt your nickname!! ;)
If you've spent over 40 years thinking and behaving a certain way you are not going to unlearn that behaviour overnight.
Start learning to be kind to yourself. That's a JW no-no isn't it?!
The shock of knowing the truth can be a bit overwhelming. Take your time.

Were you religious BEFORE becoming a JW?
by LittleToe inon another thread by restrangled i posted the following:.
i'm really interested by the stories of those who were seduced into the jws.
to what extent they were religious before they became jws?

No, not even remotely religious. Up until about 18. My mother had studied for about 16 years and when our family was breaking down for all sorts of reasons I thought that if I made a stand for mums religion I might just make things better.
I could never get a handle on this 'loving my heavenly father' thing. My experience of fathers was not great and Jehovah just fitted the same kind of distant, uninvolved authority figure.
That's the short story. -

Congratulations Stealth. I'm sorry about the way in which you found out.
oneoftwelve and I have a new grandson too. But the boot is on the other foot with us. We now shun the other family members who have otherwise refused to talk to us. There is a cost to their unnatural behaviour.
I hope you get plenty of cuddles.

You The Man, The Man. Welcome!
My situation was vaguely like yours with my raised as a dub wife. Although we had been married about 22 years.
My personal experience is that our wives (i.e. my wife), respond much better to our feelings of shock, anger or disgust over the Society's behaviour than any kind of intellectual discussion over doctrine. They want to know why we are so hurt rather than why we let Satan get to us!
Congrats on that new baby. Bring him/her up in freedom.
Cheers,

Does our language betray us?
by Mysterious inhas anyone else noticed how you can tell who is new or fading, who was a long timer, who was never really into it, etc just from the way posts and language are structured?
i think it struck me when i heard someone say they did their utmost to leave the organization..do your utmost..not a common expression in most people's worlds so it still twigged a jw connection.
reading steve hassan's book on mind control reminded me of just how important language is in cult group membership.

Indeed! All right-minded people feel privileged to teach and exhort using the pure language of truth.
Please be assured of my warm brotherly love.
