Our grandfather died a week ago- guess why we didn't know.
by professor inmy sister and i who are disfellowshipped have a jw elder as a father.
guess why mom and dad didn't tell us that our grandfather died a week ago?
thanks watchtower for denying us our grandfather's funeral.

Yes, I guessed Professor before I opened this thread. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I was at my mothers funeral and when I asked if my Granny was coming down from the North Island I was told by my non-Witness uncle that she had died several months ago!! We weren't even disfellowshipped then!! -

HDR photography anyone? (pics inside)
by Jourles indoes anyone employ hdr(high dynamic range) photography in their bag of tricks?
in a nutshell, you take several photos of the same scene but at different exposures - from dark to very light(your aperture needs to remain exactly the same).
you then merge them together.

Mum's need help with possible pregnancy questions
by LaniB inwell as you see from my avatar i already have one, she's about to turn two.
i found out about the pregnancy at just past 4 weeks.
always was clockwork regular, but i'd just had a feeling in myself that month that something was, you know, different but couldn't put my finger on it.

Hi LaniB. I get the impression from the way you've written your post that you're really stressing out. Now relax a minute.
My wife's away at the moment and she is a midwifery student, (and we've had 7 kids) she's sure to be some help.
And one of the other posters here at JWD ,in the UK, is a midwife so I hope she spots your thread and reassures you.
Kind thoughts,

I Come Bearing Gifts! Part 2 of 3
by Shepherd Book inafter finding out the truth about noahs flood (and many other things), there seemed little point in actively pursuing the witness lifestyle.
one thing we were finally able to do was openly celebrate our sons birthday.
we had celebrated his first birthday, but we did so secretly.

Essential reading!! Brilliant Shepherd Book.
When I see the blood, sweat and tears you put into your research only to be patted on the head and told to be quiet, I realise the utter futility of asking anything of the borg.
It's always the same. If you don't understand the explanation in a Watchtower then Jehovah used some kind of magic. Problem solved, now get out on Field Service. -

Why did God create dinosaur's...
by zeroday inif all life is created why do you think god created dinosaur's...what purpose do you suppose they served...
-

"With a perfectly straight face, and total credulity on her part, an older sister informed me that the dinosaurs were created to eat all the excess vegetation on Earth after it was created."
CaptainS, We had the same thinking down this part of the world too! But it was further suggested that the decaying bones and vegetation would create pools of oil for the future! How forward thinking of Jehovah!

most disturbing movie scene you've seen?
by knock knock ini haven't seen this topic on here so i thought i'd.... hmmm, maybe it's because it's just too disturbing?
to me, the scene in saving private ryan - the two soldiers in the small upstairs room fighting hand to hand to the death (by stabbing).
i think that is the most disturbing thing i've seen on screen and there were plenty just in that film alone.

Tell Me About Your Jehovah's Witness Mother...If You had One!
by new boy inso since no one picked up the ball, after my thread on "your jw father".....here we go.... my mother (bless her heart) was born in kansas in 1926....her mother died in 1934, when my mother was 8 years old.
she died trying to give yourself an abortion with a coat hanger.
it was the "great depression".....she was 34 years old 4 kids and a 5th on the way...my grandfather would blow through town just long enough to "knock her up" and leave....no money....no hope.

Nasty piece of work. Manipulator, weeper. People love her when they first meet her but if she thinks you've crossed her that's it.
I think she died about 10 or 11 years ago. She died the way she lived. I looked at her corpse in the hospital. She was stiff and her face was drawn down in a grimace. No smile lines visible. -

Only a few are interested in the truth
by Hiddenwindow init occured to me that most jws, as many other religious people are not really looking for the truth; they are rather interested in certain degree of spiritual or emotional confort or at least the illusion of such confort that can be found in cults or religions.
truth inhabits the realm of the intelect, and the intelect is of little use to religious people.
what do you think?.

You could start a whole big debate here on what 'truth' is!
I think most witnesses are looking for some sort of spiritual security or protection. But for the most part they are not intellectuals.
JW's are taught not to trust in their ability to think. Mother is there to do that for them.
Intellect and faith are pretty much incompatible I think.
