Hi Steve. My wife was a Preece girl from Tauranga / Te Puke and knows a Harvey family there.
We've been through Waiheke Island, Tauranga, Glendowie Ak., Hamilton, Dunedin and Balclutha.
We have grand children now and of course the aforementioned families have grown exponentially.
I hope they find their way out of the Borg. BP, I was hoping this might be a chance for someone to do just that, knowing they have a relative who understands.

a couple of days ago i went to the funeral of an old age brother in his 80s.. well, that was the typical jw funeral although his daughter and the rest of his family are not witnesses.
as you know the brothers don't wear black clothes nor they show lot of sadness as a "prove" they believe in resurrection.. the problem this time is some of them went too far.
two sisters had red clothing and at the entrance a group of brothers were literally laughing.
In line with Quendi's comments; One of the things I had to learn when I was undergoing cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), was to stop cult-like black and white statements. I was forced to frame statements of fact with the words "in my experience" so that others didn't feel immediately compelled to contradict me.
Doing this made me own the experience and stopped me making the assumption that everybody else felt the same way.
I wonder how I learned to think that way ?
some jw's claimed that when they were out door to door that they could feel the angels guiding them and jehovahs spirt apon them.. others claimed this when having prayed felt a sense of calm afterwards.

Like Pentecostalists, there are JW's who are desperate to feel that 'indefinable thing' that shows they are uniquely approved by God.
It has a slightly hysterical tinge to it in my experience. All the dubs I've known that have been like this were women.

went to see tintin in 3d last night with one of my sons and sat through all the credits waiting to see another of my sons names appear.. and there it was !!
very exciting.
he's a render wrangler at weta workshops in wellington and works long late hours transferring stuff into digital format (as i understand it).. i used to despair of him fiddling with computers and linux and it junk until he emerged a year ago with a degree and got asked to go to weta.
Thank you all. BOR, he was just fascinated as a child with the mechanics of computers and programming languages. Near the end of his studies he said he was keen on going into robotics. I think when two or three of his final year were asked to join Weta he probably thought it was a good start. Maybe his perspective will change.
Incidentally, he's our third child and was the first one we encouraged to consider tertiary education as we mentally left the borg.

And there it was !! Very exciting. He's a render wrangler at Weta Workshops in Wellington and works long late hours transferring stuff into digital format (as I understand it).
I used to despair of him fiddling with computers and Linux and IT junk until he emerged a year ago with a degree and got asked to go to Weta. I just wanted him to get a proper job!
Now he gets lunch with Speilberg and Jackson. He's worked on Planet of the Apes, Terminator and the upcoming Dambusters remake but this is the first time he's been credited.
We're just so proud of Glenn. I hope he knows it.
