  Did anyone really buy into the "Universal Sovereignty" issue?

  i am new to the forum, but not new to jw indoctrination.

  even as a child, i would ask myself, "why would the almighty creator need to prove anything to anyone, including him/her/itself?

  really, one of the few scriptures that i do actually agree with is that 'god is love.

  A fantastic post. And no, I never bought into it...as in, I knew that was the reason(because thatis what I was told), but it wasn't a rational reason.

  The only personal issue I have is with this part of your post:

  You can agree with the statement itself that "god is love" but if you read the bible you have to recognize that the god the scripture is speaking of is clearly not the embodiment of love. As a disclaimer, these are just my thoughts on the matter and I consider myself an atheist, though only in the sense of a bible god, and I don't plan on worrying about some other book's gods either.

  i was speaking to this woman at work today, and my phone rang and as my ringer for a certain friend, i have the sponge bob square pants song .... "who lives in a pineapple under the sea .... ".

  ... well she is a little strange and very ultra christian.

  she started telling me, that her church she goes too feel that sponge bob and patrick are portraying the gay lifestyle.

  Did you tell this woman that she was a retard? Because she is one. Debating such things with anybody gives credence to their point.

  You could have really f'd her up and explained that sponges are both asexual and bisexual. They are essentially fully functioning hermaphrodites.

  i know this has been mentioned before, but i'd like to bring that question to the front again.

  not only from a jw's perspective, but also from all other christians.. who lied to man and woman in the eden story?.

  yahweh god says to men: 17 "nevertheless of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat, for on the day you eat of it you shall most surely die.

  No.

  And as far as the other questions, I fail to see their relevance. They weren't children. They were naive and ignorant becuase that is how "Jehovah" kept them and wanted them. If I were supposedly trying to protect them, being an allseeing superpower, I wouldn't allow this so-called "lying" serpent around to stir up shit.

  The bible says god said: "The DAY you eat from it you're gonna fricken die"

  Satan says: "No you won't. You'll just stop being naive and ignorant."

  It is right there in black and white.

  They didn't die that day and their eyes were indeed opened. God lied. Satan didn't. God didn't say that they would never die if they didn't eat from it. Actually, they would still would have died unless they ate the other fruit, apparently. Sooooooooo, the only way to explain that away is to decide that god meant something other than what he actually said. Which seems to be where this discussion has headed.

  ..."when god said they would die that day, he didn't mean die as in no longer be alive..."

  ..."when he said 'that day', he didn't mean the same day,he meant that they wouldn't live forever"

  Does that really make any sense?

  Say what you mean and mean what you say! Let your yes mean yes and your no, no!

  this will probably apply to few here, but to me it'll always be that way.

  it's the what if syndrome maybe, but it's always there.

  i still think that as a core belief system the jw's have it right, even if their delivery isn't always right.

  haha... Hilarious. Anyhow scoob, after all you have seen that they do have wrong what is it exactly that you are looking for? What would it take for you to realize that they don't have the truth? Seroiusly. Let's say you for some reason believe the bible. Clearly they have some f#&*ed up interpretations of scriptures. They have made false prophecies which would in turn make them "false prophets". It don't take a genius to figure that out. Do they have to come right out and say "Well, I guess we were wrong. Sorry bout that. Turns out what we thought was holy spirit was just some really good hash."????? That ain't gonna happen. I would really like to know, what would it take to realize that they do not have the truth?

  I am supposed to go to a cousins wedding this month at the local KH in Southbridge, MA. It's just a building. I'll be sitting near the "worldly" relatives who go. I'll point out to them the pagan act of exchanging rings which they might chuckle about.

  I'm pretty sure that no law abiding people are supposed to buy stolen goods so what this would have to do with just JW's? and define "true christian".
