Some are completely, most are to some extent. If they aren't at all, then they aren't really Jehovah's Witnesses, they just say they are. They are nourished on what seems to be a neverending supply of recycled propaganda, and are taught that to learn anything else on their own else could/will kill them, "spiritually" and/or literally (at least, eventually). Brainwashed by fear. The idea of being sheep is comforting. That, however, always scared me the most. To me, being a sheep is the equivalent of being a lemming. I grew two horns and a beard. Do you think that is why they look down upon facial hair?

it is holy spirit in operation
Obviously. Reminds me of those stories: Such and such person was going to commit suicide, they prayed and lo and behold, some JW's stopped at their door! Little did they know that this was almost a fate worse than suicide. You get to live, but you become a zombie/slave to an institution that controls everything you think and do.

I was just sitting here reading some posts and the phone rang. My wife looked at the caller ID and it said JEHOVAHS WITNESS!!!! She hands me the phone. Turns out to be another wrong number for the mysterious Laura (not us, we get lots of calls from people for her whomever she is).
I was like, "sh*t, they found me and want to talk!" Not that they matter to me really, especially around here since I don't know any JW's here. Just that heart skipping a beat thing when you are driving the speed limit and following the road laws and you round a corner and there is a cop. Still makes you nervous though you have no reason. Good thing I'm not superstitious!

How do you think the world will end?
by free2beme ini was watching this national geographic program called "the end" the other day.
it showed different events that could end mankind and possibly the planet.
in each one, there is true in possibilities and they never showed an example of god destroying the world.

The Wild Beast has both a Name & Number. Do you know what the NAME is?
by Schizm inas shown by the text below, the 7-headed wild beast has a name.. 16 and it puts under compulsion all persons, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the slaves, that they should give these a mark in their right hand or upon their forehead, 17 and that nobody might be able to buy or sell except a person having the mark, the name of the wild beast or the number of its name.
18 here is where wisdom comes in: let the one that has intelligence calculate the number of the wild beast, for it is a mans number; and its number is six hundred and sixty-six.
of course the beast's "number" is "666" -- but that's not it's "name".

If you believe in demons and whatnot you might not want to read this, you may become "possessed".
THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST
I left alone my mind was blank
I needed time to think to get the memories from my mind
What did I see can I believe that what I saw
That night was real and not just fantasy
Just what I saw in my old dreams were they
Reflections of my warped mind staring back at me
Cos in my dreams it’s always there the evil face that twists my mind
And brings me to despair
The night was black was no use holding back
Cos I just had to see was someone watching me
In the mist dark figures move and twist
Was all this for real or some kind of hell
666 the number of the beast
Hell and fire was spawned to be released
Torches blazed and sacred chants were praised
As they start to cry hands held to the sky
In the night the fires burning bright
The ritual has begun satan’s work is done
666 the number of the beast
Sacrifice is going on tonight
This can’t go on I must inform the law
Can this still be real or some crazy dream
But I feel drawn towards the evil chanting hordes
They seem to mesmerise me...can’t avoid their eyes
666 the number of the beast
666 the one for you and me
I’m coming back I will return
And I’ll possess your body and I’ll make you burn
I have the fire I have the force
I have the power to make my evil take it’s course
Oh, this wasn't an Iron Maiden thread? -

The first twenty years of my life were controlled by the "society". Half of my blood relatives (of course the ones I was closest to) are trapped in the lies of this institution. I hate the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses. That is my attitude toward this religion. I got myself reinstated 3/4 years ago so I could more freely associate with my mother, who recently died of cancer. Of course my JW relatives were there often to visit as well (so were the non JW relatives just so you dont think that the concern for her was just a jw love kinda thing) so I didn't want to have to deal with that weird vibe when they were around. So my attitude toward the JW religion is that I hate it and I will rejoice when it is exposed. My attitude on life is that I love it, I love having one, I love my wife and child, and I am happy with myself.
The worst part of having been raised as a witness was that: had I not been, I would never have been sucked in by them. I never had a choice. But.... I questioned when I was able to. My mother always said I was "too critical". To see here though, the power that this "organization" can have over others, infuriates me even more. I have relatives that are much more intelligent than I am in many respects but still cannot see the forest. The research that has been done by everyone here is so overwhelming, that in this day and age, that people are still being sucked in by them, is ridiculous. I am new to posting here, and none of what I can tell you would compare to what the true (ex)-believers here who had to find proof that the JW's were lying to them in order to leave can tell you. I am grateful for everyone here "fighting the fine fight" though. I am not a confrontational person but I do root for the good guys. Also, while I lean toward the atheistic, agnostic folks ideas, I have nothing against truly compassionate people who happen to believe in a god of some sort. (just don't come to my door telling me that jesus loves me and I have to call myself a sinner in order for him to save me - dying for three days isn't a big deal in my book. Any day I get to sleep for more that 8 hours is a blessing, not a sacrifice.)

Why would God need worship?
by Vormek2.8 inwhy would an all knowing master of space and time feel the irrepressible need to be adored by mere insects (relatively speaking), and indeed punish them in the most absolute of terms if they fail in this task?
indeed it makes god seem very human, although rather immaturely so.
we expect such behavior from schoolyard bullies, megalomaniac dictators and small children who demand adoration from their beaten dogs.

he is insecure. That is the only reason I have ever come up with(if there were a god). It is a good question. The real reason of course, is that God was invented by men who used it as a way to explain things they couldn't, which was then pushed by wise men, priests, holy men as a control issue and then to get worship for themselves cuz only they could communicate with God.

I've read some pretty imaginative Fairy Tales but....
by lucifer ini must say the bible takes to prize, they are pretty creative, i mean a snake that is a devil talking to a naked woman trying to make her eat fruit, or how about a man who gets his strength through his hair (sampson i think) and an evil woman tricks him and cuts it off, anyone else feel like the bible is a good bedtime story, but now they left the borg find it hard to believe??

JWD WAS ABLE TO CONVINCE ME THE PARADISE WAS A MYTH BUT...
by stillAwitness inthe talk given today sounded pretty convincing.
facts were stated about how our body is designed to live forever (the brain, blood vessels etc) and how all these intricated details about the human body raises us to ask the question: "did not jehovah design us with the purpose of living forever?
now i've read the threads about how there just would not be enough room in the world for all those people.

If the debt of sin is paid with death, then when Jesus resurrected people, why did they die again? Did that not count? Cuz Jesus was resurrected, so why does his count for everyone? Did Jesus do a half assed job with his resurrections? There are bible scholars who argue that the original meaning of the passages interpreted as "everlasting life" actually mean a life of long and uncertain duration. That's a FAR CRY from everlasting.
Ever have an everlasting gobstopper? I have had a bunch of them. Damn Willy Wonka and his lies.

purpose, meaning, yada yada yada.
One thing I am certain of: The purpose of life cannot be to find the purpose of life. I would hate to believe I am here to find out why I am here.
