The thing about demons is that they only attack religious people, which in turn makes them more fervent in their belief. Are the demons not picking up on this? I thought they were cunning.

Question: Demons
by ladybug25 ingrowing up, i remember hearing stories from my own parents and others in the congregation about experiences with demons.
sister x wore a t-shirt that she purchased at a second hand store and the demons attached themselves to the shirt and gave her problems.
certain movies and/or cds would give a family problems.

Never got counseled for my clothes, but I got a warning for the sideburns I used to rock.
I got counselled for shaving mine up too high.

We probably could if it weren't for all of those religions.
I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself.

I know of several congs. and a certain CO that have a fit if sisters don't wear pantyhose!
Sounds like he has a fetish. I was many times counselled on the way I dressed. I didn't give a crap (well, I cared about getting counselled but I just didn't "heed" it). I had some elder doogooder give me some handmedown suits. Never wore them. They went to the thrift shop. I wasn't much of the conformer JW kid. Some would incorrectly call it rebellion when it was actually just not conforming. I don't work that way, I guess. If it was hot out, I wouldn't wear a jacket. One time a dude said something about it when we were out "in service" and I told him that it was either preaching without the thing or going home. Which would Jehovah prefer? A sweaty person knocking at your door on a Saturday morning to sell religion doesn't seem like a good sales pitch (yeah, it is selling, and the price is far too high). It freaks me out that a lot of you signed up voluntarily, but then again a lot (I don't know if it is the majority but it is still too many) of kids stay in. The conformity they expect, so as not to "cause a stumbling block", actually works against them. At least, it sure as there is no hell did in my case.

Men are WONDERFUL spider killers, I must say!
That is my wifes job. Actually, she removes them from the house(I prefer them dead, and I'm sure that if I could get trapped in their home/web, they wouldn't hesistate to kill me). Fricken things want to get on me. I won't walk into the woods without waving a stick in front of me so as not to walk into a web. I freak out when I walk through one. What if the spider got on me? I've screamed and almost caused my wife to crash the car cuz there was a spider on my shirt.

You've tried to quit smoking, but you can't. Why not?
by AlmostAtheist intoday at 5pm it will be two weeks since i last smoked.
i'm using the nicotine gum again, and it seems to be doing a good job.
i got close to bumming one last night, but i grabbed a gum instead.

I'm going to quit this Sunday w/ my wife. We've tried before. I cracked after about 5 weeks, she made it about 7 or 8 (I'm sure she could have made it if it weren't for me, tough to quit when you know someone you live with has cigarettes). I had gotten laid off and was pretty stressed. I'll be using the nicotine inhaler thing. The finality of knowing that I can't smoke again stresses me out enough to really want a cigarette. I believe I had also smoked a J after four weeks of not smoking and that didn't help either.
Cigarette......... prepare to pleasure me. (sorry almostatheist) I've only got one day left
I had such terrible nightmares with it I had to stop the patch (this is one of the side effects). Also where ever I put on the patch, like an arm or leg, that limb would ache terribly. After a while it didn't seem to help anyway. I tend to be a very nervous person and worry a lot. Cigarettes really calm me down.
I used the patch a long time ago. Made it a month. I never had the nightmares, but I definitely had the aches. The last three sentences apply to me as well.

Agnostic or Athiest--which makes more sense?
by whyizit ini can see how someone could be agnostic in their view.
who knows, who cares?
thinking that perhaps "god" is just a spiritual santa claus for people who are afraid of death, etc..... but atheism?

... yeah, what almostatheist said. I have yet to hear someone have an idea of God that sounds plausible or reasonable. I won't entirely rule out something bigger than what we have now, but I don't think of whatever it may be as "God" in the sense of a supreme being who knows and sees all.

It can not be proven that there is no God, so being an Athiest takes faith. Athiesm takes a dogmatic approach that borders on the qualities required to be a fundamental religionist.
Agnostic makes far more sense.
There are many things that don't exist that cannot be proven to not exist. That argument means absolutely nothing. Prove that there is no invisible rabbit sitting next to me.

In most cases I consider myself an atheist, however, I do not rule out the possible existence somewhere in the universe of a different type of life, possibly more intelligent than humans. I don't believe there is some sort of spirit being watching what we are doing or expecting worship. I don't believe in the existence of some "bible" god (or any other religious based gods). I find the idea to be a ludicris(sp?) fairy tale. If you define being an atheist as not believing in a supreme being, I am an atheist. You don't have to know everything about everything to be an atheist. I deny the existence of a God, and until one decides to show himself, I will continue to. The likelyhood of that happening is, well, it is pretty unlikely. Whether or not one believes something has nothing to do with whether or not it is true.

ARE YOU RELIGIOUS BECAUSE YOU'RE AFRAID OF DEATH?
by Dansk ini've been thinking about the above question a lot lately!
i see so many so-called religious people being hypocritical to the religion they profess to have faith in.
they may say "hey, i'm only human", as if this excuses their behaviour.

I believe most people are religious (why are people ok with believing Jesus will save them but are afraid to be called religious?) because it gives them a get out of death card. Claiming you don't fear death because you aren't going to die sounds disengenous to me. That is just how it comes across to me. Would you have a religious belief system if you were still going to die?
