Are you still in the Will?

i'm curious.

has anyone been taken out of their parents and/or relatives 'will' because of leaving the jw's?

I'm in the will along with my siblings -- everything to be split equally. However, the watchtowercrapsociety is also in the will -- as my parents explained it to me, 'just think of it as another sibling.' So, we now have another sibling -- this one a real bastard -- who will also get an equal share. Personally, I don't give a darn about the money -- and there is some in this case -- I would rather they flush all of it down the toilet or burn it than give any (more) of it to the wtcs.

My mother called me to cheerily give me this news as I'm a co-executor -- I could tell by her tone that she thought this was thrilling news that I would completely understand and endorse. Instead, to her shock, I lost it with her. Told her that this is such a brilliant move that I've decided to leave half of my estate to my employer -- also, a corporation -- instead of solely to my son. Further, you're idiots, mother and father, for leaving your dollars to a printing company that prints nothing more than comic books for morons -- at least the corporation I work for produces software that millions and millions of people and businesses use and benefit from each day.

A few days later I received flowers with a note saying, 'we're sorry we upset you.' This is very confusing...shouldn't I be out of the will now since I did not lovingly accept the news of my new sibling?

My (real) brother and I are going to take all of the family photos through the years and photoshop our long lost sibling, W.T., into all of the photos.

Damn -- where was W.T. last week when I had the flu?? I really could have used his help. And, I need a ride to the airport next week...hope W.T. is around to take me.

Coincidences....

it is the closest i get to the supernatural these days.

how about this one.. a couple of days ago i was working from my home office and while doing so was listening to a bbc radio 7 re-run of the 1960's radio comedy, "i am sorry i will read that again", with john cleese etc.

I've been in lurker mode for some time now but had to reply to this as I have these kinds of things happen to me frequently -- two just this week.

1. Getting rid of a lot of my pre-divorce furniture -- need to clear out the old and update my space. Sold my beautiful 4 poster bed this week -- emotional for me as I loved that bed and was thrilled when my ex and I bought it 6 years ago. The bed is made by a well known high end American furniture maker and has a very distinct look. Anyway, I sell it through Craigslist and as I'm watching the new owners drive away with my bed I feel a sense of relief mixed with sadness. An hour later I'm watching my favorite home improvement tv show and the room they feature has a bed and...it's my bed!

2. Doing a donation drive at work for a local shelter for victims of domestic violence. I'm also part of a community outreach group in my town that is unrelated to the work project. The drive at work has been very successful and will benefit a shelter near my office. I think to myself...I should find a similar organization that supports the community in my town and do a similar donation drive. My contact information is accessible via a couple of community forums and an hour after I have this thought I receive an email from the director of such a shelter in my own community asking if I would be interested in working with them to raise funds and donations.

3. Many years ago when I moved to my current state -- clear across the US and didn't know a soul -- I accepted a job at a bank. First day of work was new hire orientation and there was one other new employee besides myself. I was really homesick and nervous to boot. The HR manager asked us for our driver's licenses so she could make copies for our HR files. We hand over our licenses and I notice the other woman's license is from the same state that I had just moved away from. I asked where she was from -- she laughed and said, "oh, you wouldn't know it -- it's blah blah town." I was shocked as that is where I had moved from! We were both shocked as this was a very small town -- turns out she was several years older and our paths hadn't crossed personally but her family owned the local ice creamery where I went for ice cream and her younger sister and my younger brother were the same age and attending the local high school together. And, after asking my brother about her sister I found out that they were currently sharing a locker at high school! Nothing ever became of this connection -- we stayed in touch for a bit but that was all. But it was one of the oddest coincidences I ever experienced.

Don't know how any of this will rank on Hillary Step's Coinci-meter but those are some of mine...

Strangers at your KH...

i was wondering this........at your (former or present) kingdom halls, do you ever have people (from off the street) attend a meeting?

i mean, do people (that nobody knows at the hall) just show up to see what a meeting is all about?

if so, how is that person(s) received?

Hi Lavendar, the witnesses are usually delighted when a stranger shows up to check out the meeting. they will be all over you -- seriously, your new best friends. people refer to it as "love bombing" and you can be assured that you will get a lot of that if you seem at all interested and positive toward the witnesses.

When you were in field service....

did you ever have anyone, at the door, say something to you that created a seed of doubt in your mind about the wts?

something at all that started you thinking "maybe i'm really not in the truth".

very interesting thread. When I think back to field service there are a few things that definitely started me thinking about whether this was the right thing to do. When I was very little and would spend long days out in service with my pioneer mom sometimes people at the doors would scold her about having her children out in the heat, all dressed up in uncomfortable clothes. I remember one woman begging my mother to let us swim in her pool for a little while. I realized early on that what we were doing certainly didn't seem normal to other people and didn't really seem to be giving the "witness" that everyone at the hall thought it did. In my teen years I remember going to a door with a woman who studied with me. She and the householder got into a heated discussion about the witnesses not saluting the flag -- the woman had a huge flag flying on her house. Eventually she refused to continue talking to us and as we were walking back to the car the witness woman I was with (elder's wife and pioneer) was screaming at her, "My husband served this country in WWII -- WE served this country!!" I felt so uncomfortable about that exchange.

Ugh -- was like someone running their fingernails up and down a chalkboard. And then to top it off after rattling that off she then says '...and bad association could definitely be your parents.'

Sorry, I had to turn around and give her a big when that came out. She might as well have had JDUB tattooed on her forehead it was so obvious. Who else would dispense that kind of crappy advice?!?!

Help me describe the idealized JW fantasyland

based on the illustrations in the books & magazines, and the videos produced by the society, describe the world that the gb would like jws to live in.. for example.... -- parties never have more than 15 persons attending.

entertainment consists of one chap playing a guitar while the rest sing kingdom melodies, followed by stimulating conversations of "field service experiences" and "how i came into the truth".

-- children of all ages are perfectly well-behaved for the full 2 hours of a congregation meeting.

All families have at least one panda bear and two lions as pets. Usually the lion accompanies the family on picnics and the little girl in the family wears a pinafore and sits next to the lion stroking his beautiful glossy "vidal sassoon'd" mane while nibbling on the most perfect grapes ever seen. Mother and Father and Big Brother are busy greeting all of the other immaculately dressed picnickers smiling broadly and admiring all of the perfect, mouthwatering fruit and vegetables that the other picnickers -- most dressed in their native dress -- are carrying in large cornocopias on their shoulders.

what was it like to grow up a jehovahs witness?it is fair to say, that as a convert from roman catholicism my understanding .

of what it was like to be raised a jehovahs witness is limited because of not.

having had any family in the organization.

you grow up an observer -- never a participant in life. this is what works for the dubs...they don't have to (actually are forbidden from it) participate in anything and can therefore condemn things they've never done or tried. they don't have to achieve anything because participating in life is the wrong thing to do. so, instead of feeling like a "loser" they feel like they are doing the right thing and simply being persecuted for it. that's where I differed --- I did feel like a loser and once I was able to break away I started participating, learning, competing and living.

I believe my parents give between $100 and $200 a month. Recently my mother called to let me know that when they pass away their assets will be divided between all of the children -- however, since I'm an executor of the will she wanted to let me know that there is another child -- a new bastard sibling...named the watchtower bible and tract society....that is also getting an equal cut. I went ballistic on the phone and asked her how she would feel if I left my assets to the company that I work for since that's exactly what she's doing -- leaving money to a corporation.

Emily- Glad to hear you've made a counseling appointment. You are the victim of EMOTIONAL ABUSE. He may not be able to help it -- as you've said in an earlier post -- but your responsibility is not to try and fix him or try to rationalize why this is happening so that you can stay with him. He is a very broken, damaged person and by your description of his behavior he will more than likely stay this way. His emotional abuse even extends to his own son -- he allowed the two of you to get close and now is pulling the rug out from under both of you in some bizarre effort to get back into the good graces of the people at the hall. Your life will be miserable if you continue in this relationship. Instead of spending your time driving by the hall to check on him you should go to a good bookstore and pick up some books on emotional and verbal abuse -- you will be shocked when you start reading and identifying with the information. You will start to understand that this is NOT NORMAL and that you don't have to accept it. All the best - LimboGirl
