you grow up an observer -- never a participant in life. this is what works for the dubs...they don't have to (actually are forbidden from it) participate in anything and can therefore condemn things they've never done or tried. they don't have to achieve anything because participating in life is the wrong thing to do. so, instead of feeling like a "loser" they feel like they are doing the right thing and simply being persecuted for it. that's where I differed --- I did feel like a loser and once I was able to break away I started participating, learning, competing and living.

I believe my parents give between $100 and $200 a month. Recently my mother called to let me know that when they pass away their assets will be divided between all of the children -- however, since I'm an executor of the will she wanted to let me know that there is another child -- a new bastard sibling...named the watchtower bible and tract society....that is also getting an equal cut. I went ballistic on the phone and asked her how she would feel if I left my assets to the company that I work for since that's exactly what she's doing -- leaving money to a corporation.

Emily- Glad to hear you've made a counseling appointment. You are the victim of EMOTIONAL ABUSE. He may not be able to help it -- as you've said in an earlier post -- but your responsibility is not to try and fix him or try to rationalize why this is happening so that you can stay with him. He is a very broken, damaged person and by your description of his behavior he will more than likely stay this way. His emotional abuse even extends to his own son -- he allowed the two of you to get close and now is pulling the rug out from under both of you in some bizarre effort to get back into the good graces of the people at the hall. Your life will be miserable if you continue in this relationship. Instead of spending your time driving by the hall to check on him you should go to a good bookstore and pick up some books on emotional and verbal abuse -- you will be shocked when you start reading and identifying with the information. You will start to understand that this is NOT NORMAL and that you don't have to accept it. All the best - LimboGirl

Growing up JW can be described for me in two words: LONELY and AFRAID. Lonely because I had no friends in the org and lonely because I wasn't allowed to make friends outside of the org. Afraid because my conscience had been so hypertuned that everything made me feel bad and made me feel as though I was letting down jehovah. Afraid also because all we talked about were the "last days" and how any minute it would be armageddon and role playing how we would hold up under the persecution that was sure to come. Afraid because even if praying to jehovah to say thank you for your dinner the prayer generally ended with pleadings of bringing on armageddon and killing everyone in the world (that would include your non-believing grandparents, etc). Afraid because of the constant talk about the devil and demons -- I was terrified of demons being in my bedroom. When I was about 6 my parents took me to an amusement park in the midwest called Silver Dollar City. There was a ride called The Old Mine Train which replicated going into an old mine back in the 1800's -- it was very dark and a bit scary. Thinking about it now it really was fairly benign but because of the dark and the scary noises I screamed through the entire ride for jehovah to save us from the demons. I can only imagine what the other people on the ride thought. I have a four year old son and if he ever did something like that I would probably take him to a mental health counselor ASAP! can you imagine training a little child to react like this? My parents told this story for years and thought it was a cute manifestation of my belief and faith. Sick.

Emily-
PLEASE -- find a competent marriage/family counselor, print out all of your postings here, and go discuss this with a professional therapist. Don't ask your ex-boyfriend to go with you....I doubt he would go anyway...you need to go for yourself to get some help with this situation before you waste any more of your time and life with this man.
You need to make a clean break from this man and from his religion and you need to figure out why it is that you tolerate being treated this way.
Best wishes for you to move past this situation and find love and happiness elsewhere.

my parents had a demonstration to do during one meeting. my brother at the time was four years old and during the demonstration got up and went on the platform and started tugging on our mother. dad told him to sit down but he did it again. so my dad did what any good witless would do -- he stopped the demonstration...turned to that audience..."excuse me for a moment" and then proceeded to spank my brother on the stage in front of everyone with whatever piece of wt rubbish they were demonstrating that day. pretty exciting for me and my sister!

was in a beautiful park enjoying some icecream with an old witless friend of mine. after talking about how great it was to be in the park and how pretty the scenery was she proceeded to finish her icecream and then toss the cup and spoon into a bush. asked her what she thought she was doing and she replied, "No big deal, I'll just pick it up in the new system!"

Speaker Podiums at the KH
by limbogirl infor some strange reason i started thinking about the fact that i've never seen a speaker podium like the ones used at the kh anywhere aside from the kh.
you know what i'm talking about...those tall spindly legs supporting a small table and then a bible holder thing attached to that.
are those made specifically for the kh?

First, I love this DB -- where else can I muse about something as random as speaker podiums and people all over the world know what I'm talking about!
LeslieV: No kidding!! wow, a whole enterprise based on speaker podiums! Curious as to whether they sell to anyone besides dubs?
Stephanus: Exactly what I was thinking, too -- what a strange consumer base. I wonder what would happen should another dub decide to compete? Would the original manufacturer heed the "no compete clause" that is so much a part of dub life? or would there be a pricing war and advertising campaign?
WasAnElder Once: LOL!!! Would be hard to take anyone serious who was lecturing from a stand with a big wts logo on it, not to mention switching a car window mechanism to make the thing go up and down.
Wozadummy: BINGO!!
thanks for the laughs!

You know what I'm talking about...those tall spindly legs supporting a small table and then a bible holder thing attached to that. Are those made specifically for the KH? When I moved to CA from MO many years ago I realized it wasn't a regional thing...those stands were used in CA, too. I've never seen any kind of podium like them at non-dub events or conferences. What gives? Are there elves in Brooklyn who make them? LimboGirl
