  Steve Irwin taught me the natural order of things. Crocodiles, snakes, sting rays, all are "dangerous" , but are to be respected. He made me in awe of the animals, and not in fear of them. When I feared the animals, I wanted them in the "New World." I realize now that the New World, the one where the animals are docile, is not the animals nature. God did not design creatures to be docile. Steve taught me that.

  Steve loved the animals, his work, and his family. I remember seeing him on Oprah, with Bindi Sue bringing in a snake. In our house, we watched his show on a daily basis. We all felt part of his family. Last week, the rerun was him bringing home his newborn son from the hospital. They also ran Bindi's first time helping catch & tag wild crocodiles. Steve had a group of young croc hunters, he was training. He handed down his craft.

  There's a natural spring, Wakulla Springs, that I swam in many moons ago. There are 12 foot alligators in the water. The gators all swim to the opposite side when the bathers come. There has never been a person attacked. In fact, Tarzan movies were filmed there. I always anticipated Steve Irwin shooting a film in Wakulla Springs. That would make a bunch of Southerners look crazier than he!

  Now, we will all miss him.

  Thousands of Muslims Converting to JW? Part of Oct Announcement?

  an active jw relative told me, "thousands of muslims were converting to become jws.

  " i asked, "where?

  " response, "i'm not sure.".

  An active JW relative told me, "Thousands of Muslims were converting to become JWs." I asked, "Where?" Response, "I'm not sure."

  Is this part of the upcoming announcement on governments turning against religion? My relative is also convinced that all the governments are going to turn against all religions and become much less tolerant. I replied that the opposite is true - religious tolerance is in vogue, and governments just want to get a handle on terrorists, who are, mainly, Muslim extremists.

  Has anyone in JWD heard this argument from the JWs?

  i feel really angry and upset.

  a good friend of mine is going through hell because they are being shunned by their children and grandchildren.

  In Pennsylania and California, the harmed individuals may have the right to sue the religion for shunning It's a type of coercion that keeps followers inside a religion that they do not want to be in. The fear of losing one's family & one's business relationships are a concern of the government. The freedom to enter and TO LEAVE a religion should be protected. We do not live in an Islamic country - where you are severly punished for leaving a religion. Yet, with shunning by family & business associates, this is what we have. There is a Mennonite case in Pennsylvania Supreme Court and another case in California Supreme Court that speaks of shunning & coercion. In those cases, the shunned follower won money. If you PM me, I'll give you the case names, if you care to read them.

  Can Warren Jeffs Safely Hide Behind Religious Freedom? Watchtower?

  i heard on the news that warren jeffs defense is "religious freedom" which precludes the government from persecuting him.

  he, apparently, strongly believes he is gaining god's glory by having multiple wives & marrying young girls.

  he thinks these actions are ordained by god.

  I've been watching CNN & Court TV on Mr. Jeffs arrest. These stations seem disgusted with this extreme religion. The reporters were mad about the small town's silence & unwillingness to be interviewed. The reporter talked about the shunning & other treatment that happened when a follower "fell away" and did not repent. The ex-members who interviewed, spoke in terms similar to the Witnesses - using words like "sheep" "[Mr. Jeffs] was appointed by God (God's mouthpiece)", "complete devotion to Mr. Jeff's words"...... The reporter did say that some of the followers were murmering about the attire of Mr. Jeffs & his wife. Mr. Jeffs was wearing shorts & a T-shirt, and his wife's hair was down. Apparently, the followers were disgruntled becuase Mr. Jeffs has constantly preached that Godly men did not wear short & a T-shirt and a woman's hair was always to be up in public. Gee, perhaps it was "New Light" or like the Watchtower's UN card .... "Do as I say, not as I do."

  my "worldly" husband always told me i was in a cult when we were dating..i didn't believe him.

  but, to this day i still don't know why i didn't agree with him.

  I was told at an early age that my parents would never lie to me....therefore, they told me the truth about Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, etc from the time I can remember. When my school friends figured out that Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, etc. were not true....I felt like I was above them becuase my parents always told me the truth.

  When I started to see the Watchtower's BIG LIES (UN, Blood, Military Cards, New Light, Generation of 1914), I began to see how brainwashed my parents were & how much of childhood fantasies, wonder, and imagination I was not allowed to have.

  Religious freedom is not a defense to crimes. One is not allowed to hide behind the veil of religious freedom as a defense for crimes, incluing child rape.

  Do you think he'll get away with his crimes by citing "religious freedom"? If he does get away with his crimes, do you think that other pedophiles will start their own religion in order to create a defense?

  What implications do you see for the Watchtower's hideous lies?

  i just emailed the following to the editorial department of nature, the magazine.

  a religious magazine, watchtower, 1998 6/15 p. 28, in their article true justice -- when and how?, quoted your journal nature in order to shore up their lack of support of the use of dna in courts of law.

  moreover, the magazine nature notes that not all scientists agree on the interpretation of forensic evidence.

  UNDER AGE DRINKING IN JWS?

  I can verify that underage drinking was really BIG. It was our only outlet.

  A group of us liked to go to professional football games. (yep, sports too....we were BAD). With coolers pre-packed in the pick-up beds, we left the KH (sometimes early) to drive into town. We drank all the way there, which was about a 45 minute, plus, drive - especially given the bad traffic. We continued our drinking at the stadium. An older "brother" of 19 bought the booz at the stadium. We stopped drinking at the last call, then sobered up enough to go home. There was about 8 of us "youths." Later, after high school graduation, one of the crazier of us was out drinking & driving. He was in a terrible car accident & was paralyzed.

  I also had a female friend. She was 18 & dating an older JW (maybe 24). He took her to the hotel room, and got her drunk all the time. She finally felt so guilty that she went to the elders & fesse up. Alot of guts, I thought. She turned her life around. She ditche the older JW, for a much older JW elder (15+ years her senior). Married now, and the pillar of the JW community. She shuns me now.
