I walked into a JW convention - well, sort of

skeeter family love ice hockey.

we go to public skating sessions to stretch our legs.

one of the nearby skating rinks is called germain arena.

The conventions are still going on . . . . I spoke with 3 JWs this time!

First was a couple - I guess. Black woman with white man. Middle aged. They were waiting for some grub at the hockey rink concession.

I said, "I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness."

Their eyes went wide.

"I am so happy to no longer be one."

They were speechless.

"Your under mind control. Your religion practices the BITE model of mind control. Behavior, Information, Thought, and Emotional Control. Information control - that's like when you can't read anything critical of the Watchtower to look at the Internet. This is the real reason why you are a cult. Plus, you shun anyone who doesn't agree with you."

They were motionless, in shock.

"Oh, don't worry. I am not an apostate. I was never baptized. But, I don't agree with your shunning or blood policies the most.

The woman finally said something, "That's your opinion."

I went on in a very low, heartfelt voice, "You need to independently research the blood doctrine. Lost of misquotes, and JWs really do accpet blood, alot of it. It's life or death. You need to research it. I really hope for both of your sakes, the WAtchtower changes it shunning and blood doctrines."

The couple went over to an older JW in a light suit who was getting his coffee. I'm sure he was an attendant. He was in the rink alot. He stayed for 10 or so minutes, as they did. I went to get my gear fixed at the rink's workshop. They finally left.

2nd JW

This guy knew that I was in hockey. I was watching a team play. He asked, "Who's playing out there?" I replied that it was an adult, amatuer league with no check. Well, he ended up having been a hockey player from New England - a black goalie of all things. He wanted to get back into the sport. We just talked about hockey. Then, one of my buddies came up, and we started talking about cults, scientology, and, of course, JWs. The JW had left, but had returned to hover near me. I'm sure he heard the conversation I was having with my friends. After that, I didn't speak with him again. I had to go. But, he was still hovering.

The Sandusky Scandal's Possible Impact on the WTS

i hope the powers-that-be in brooklyn are paying close attention to what is happening in state college, pennsylvania with respect to the hideous pedophile scandal at penn state university because it speaks directly to their own handling of pedophilia.

I just read it. Sounds like Paterno, Board of Trustees, and others KNEW but did nothing to limit Sandusky to future victims.

She'll be an ex-JW one day. She's going through a spiritual time in her life, and migrating to the religion of her youth. But, my guess, is that she's too independent of a woman and too far traveled to completely swallow the WTS bullshit. She'll realize that the control the WTS tries to exert over its members is wrong. Even a few JWs I know confessed to me that the WTS has "cult like" qualities . . . .

Did you pick-up many people for the meetings??

i was a regular taxi for alot of people.. we (wife & family) pick up one sister and her 2 children for many years ...he husband had walked out on her and we did'nt mind.. however when we were asked by the cobe wife to pick up and elderly and infermed bro a 3 day assembly (we had 3 young children) i said no.. we pased her and her daughter traviling alone to the assembly.. .

Do you know about the lawsuit in Southern Louisiana? See my post under the 3 day assembly. New lawsuit. JWs who took elderly woman to assembly are being sued after she fell at the assembly and sustained injurieis that lead to her death. The relatives of the old woman are suing JW couple (they helped her pick seat, go up stairs, etc), Jehovah's Witnesses of New York, etc. The District Convention site did not have enough elderly seating, and this is why they went to the stands.

If I was an active JW, there is no way in hades I would transport ANYONE in my own car for a meeting event OR take ANYONE to a district convention.

for myself, i learned some things that made me understand the bible wasn't true.

i looked deeper, and it became even more unlikely.

for myself, i learned some things that made me understand the bible wasn't true.

Raised a JW. Around 13/14 years old, I was convinced there was A GOD JEHOVAH and the WTS had it right.

Around 15/16/17 years old, I started to disagree and question the WTS.

Around 30ish years old, I started to attend a mega church. Liked it alot, and still like the basic messages of forgiveness. But, the Sunday after Sept. 11th, I went to church. The pastor tried to discuss why God let 9/11 happen. Why God doesn't step into our problems. And, most importantly, tried to reconcile that the God of Abraham (warring God) could be the same as Jesus (peaceful). His reasoning had holes all in it. Why? Becuase the Bible has holes all in it. If God and Jesus are from the same mindset, then HOW could they be so different?

Ok, so I stop going to the mega church becuase I moved. Sometimes, I still listen to it on the Internet. Doesn't mean I believe in God or the Bible, but the sermons are interesting.

Then, I started to READ. I read up on the history of the Bible and the Bible stories. I begin to see how the modern Bible was created by men. Men choose which books to put in it, and which books to ban. So, the Bible that we have may, or may not, be God's word. But, it is Man's word. Man created the Bible! I read up on how ancient religions are carried into and through the Bible stories. The Bible is not a new religion, no, it is based on "pagan" roots. Man created God, the single Abrahamic God! Who is to say that there are not many Gods? Who's to say that Jehovah really exists, any more then Zeus!

Anyway, this is the BEST explanation of how I feel today about the Bible and God.

All the religions on Earth could be 100% wrong and there could still be a Purpose, a Reason, a Creator (or, perhaps more likely, creators). As an atheist I doubt it, but I don't object to THAT belief.

Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes split due to religious fears!

word on the street is though katie holmes knew cruise is deep into scientology, she now has a better understading of this cult and wants to protect their child from the cult.

i guess tom and scientology has turned his and nicole kidman's kids against kidman.

now that suri is coming of age, holms does not want suri to become a scientologiest and is afraid this same outcome will befall her if she doesn't get full custody of suri .. the interesting thing is holmes is going to have to prove scientology is dangerous to her child and new york is not a joint custody/friendly state.

Nope. Cruise had to know something was wrong, and likely had spies on her every move. Scientology has alot of spies and lies (ok, theocratic lying) alot. Like someone else we know.

Straightshooter, either the visitng public speaker is a "straight shooter" OR he isn't! What if the public speaker were an undercover apostate and used this platform to wet the appetite. The minute you tell people, "Don't look."....they look. Rubbernecking is deep in the human psyche. I bet alot of JDubs, especially women, went home to see what was going on!
