The Elephant in the Room
by skeeter1 inwith a name like skeeter, i have plenty of relatives that could be on a day-time paternity talk show.
i talked with some this week.
their lack of want to improve their situation drives me nuts.. 18 years ago, relative betty gets pregnant as a teenager, had a baby (we'll call her mary), very quickly abandoned mary to grandma, came back pregnant with another child 5 years later, grandma pays alot of betty's & mary's bills, grandma used to say that betty was jealous of mary (mary is pretty, thin, and can do well in school.

With a name like Skeeter, I have plenty of relatives that could be on a day-time paternity talk show. I talked with some this week. I shouldn't do that. Their lack of want to improve their situation drives me NUTS.
Betty the mother is morbidly obese, has a low paying job, but can be a happy person on the outside).
Mary grows up, gets 21 year old boyfriend. The 21 year old boyfriend was allowed to live in Betty's house with Mary (which was bought by grandma). He had no job, no school, and no plans to better himself. Mary & he had nothing to do, but emphatically told everyone that they were not going to have sex and definately not going to get pregnant. You guesed it, in 2 months Mary was pregnant. She has baby, and he splits. No child support at all given to date. He doesn't love the baby, and now says he hates & never loved Mary.
Mary has this baby, but grandma is always taking care of the baby. Mary isn't looking at school or a job, and refuses to get a driver's license despite being near 20 years old! Mary befriends another boy, and Betty allows him to move into the house with them. He has no place to go (boo-hoo). This second boyfriend has tattoos all over the place and a bull-ring in his nose. He's not in school and isn't looking for a job. Mary tells everyone that they are not having sex (even though they are left alone in the house for 9+ hours a day while Betty works at a job she hates). Mother Betty has not taken Mary to the ob-gyn to get on birth control. Grandma is in denial, touting that Mary says that she's not having sex and therefore doesn't need to go to the OB/GYN. Skeeter said, "Bull-hockey". Then, Grandma has said for 6 weeks that she might take Mary to the OB/GYN, but is waiting for Betty to do it. All admit that Mary was in deep depression after the birth, but no one would take her to a doctor. (Skeeter can't take Mary because Skeeter is over 1,500 miles away, thankfully). Grandma blames boyfriend #1 for Mary's problems, "He did a number on her . . . "
What in the hell is going on?
Is Betty so jealous of Mary's possibility of success, that Betty is sabatoging Mary by allowing these boyfriends to move in, one after the other, & have unprotected sex in the house?
Is Mary's self esteem so shot from being abandoned by her mother Betty (and her father) that she's looking for love in all the wrong places?
Is the grandma out of her freaking mind?

I had a very bad allergic reaction to a drug. It was called "drug induced lupus" and "serum sickness." The drug that I took is the absolute least likely to cause this type of reaction, but I got it. THe drugs more likely to cause it, I take and don't get a reaction. You don't see me "bad-mouthing" the drug I had a problem with and telling others to not use it. I guarantee almost everyone on this board has taken this little sucker of a pill, with no problems at all. The doctors shake their head when I tell them about it. "No one is allergic to that drug, it's the least likely of all to have a reaction . . . "
Yes, there are some "bad" drugs that Big Pharma has touted. But, there are millions of people getting flu shots (and polio, shingles, shots, etc) and only a few reactions. So, I don't put a flu shot in the same category as the problem drugs.
The outcome of my allergic reaction, I found out that I have a low immune system. Certain drugs almost everyone on this board has taken when they get a cold/flu, will cause me to have severe problems for months. My joints fill up with fluid, I am a super high stroke risk, I can't walk or ever turn a car key without screaming in pain (more then childbirth). A flu shot keeps me from getting sick in the first place, so I don't get pnemonia (which I always used to get), and then have to take super fancy drugs to cure the pnemonia, which causes an allergic reacion, which then I land in the emergency room with a 225/180 blood pressure, screaming in pain, getting Demoral shots in the ass, followed by 85 mg of prednisone a day or 10 mg of dexamethasone for 6+ months. You haven't had a full pharma experience until you take 85 mg of prednisone a day. It's a mind and body altering drug at that level. But, it keeps the allergic reaction down enough so I can walk, drive, and not have a stroke.
If you don't want a flu shot, then don't get it. If you are strong enough to get the flu and survive it, then don't take the flu shot. But, if you get real sick from the flu, expect that a little antibiotic pill just might send you down a road to hell. Simple.

Are we on the brink of another world war?
by slimboyfat ini don't want to be an alarmist or anything... .
but i read this article in the economist today that argued it is only a matter of time until china and japan exchange shots over some small islands in between the two countries, it could escalate to full scale war, and the united states is treaty bound to come to aid of japan.
on top of that the united states is making diplomatic visits to various countries borderning china in a move that is viewed extremely negatively in beijing.

New Light 144,000 Congregations
by Bob_NC inhas anyone heard quiet rumblings of new light on the meaning of the 144,000?
to look for 144,000 congregations of jehovah's people as there are now almost 112,000 congregations?
has anyone heard this?.
-

Does it apply to the number of buildings? Or, is it the number of congregations (i.e. the Spanish Cong is separate from the ENglish one)?

I get a flu shot every year since 1996. I had the non-active swine flu shot when it came out. How many people would die from the flu verses the side effects from a shot? Anti-vaccine comments sit like anti-blood transfusion comments with me.
Birth control pills have side effects of stroke, blood clots, and death. But, so does pregnancy. In fact, my niece had major blood clots following her birth and spent a week in ICU and almost a year on blood thinners (mega stroke risk). She didn't use birth control pills and got pregnant. Now, she can't use birth controls and can't get pregnant. Both would be life threatening for her. I told her to join the nuns.
Everyone has to weigh the pros and cons and decide for themselves. Some people will get caught up in hysteria. That is their decision. Just don't cough on me or complain when you get sick.

I did skinny dipping. It was very liberating.
1. Alaska, in winter.
2. Hiking in Europe, in summer.
3. Ireland pub tour.
4. Visit a penpal I have in Scotland.
5. Crater Lake
6. New Zealand by sea from Los Angeles (i.e. cross the Pacific ocean).
7. See Tierra Del Fuego.
8. See the Watchtower fold.
Skeeter.
9. Oh, bonefishing the Bahamas and elk hunting in Wyoming . . . in the same year.
