Obama is not like the typical black child. Obama was raised by his white mother and white grandmother. Their family had some financial means behind them, and they valued education.

Simon, the US Public Schools can sometimes be very bad systems. There are documentaries on it. One of the worst is District of Columbia. The central administration becomes this large rulemaker that sucks alot of the classroom money. Teachers in NYC accussed of really bad things (like rape), get paid for years & years & years, at (near) 6 figure incomes to boot! Alot of corruption and wastefulness. All, protected by Unions. I had to complain about two bad teachers, one teacher was touching my child without my child being his student and without my child (or my) authorization. While I raised hell at the school and school board, this teacher remains. Why? The Union. There to protect the teachers. The school systems are for the teachers, first and foremost. But, the difference is that kids in places where the parents care about education (like the "white" suburbs) have great middle and high schools. I think this is becuase a majority of the parents take the child's schooling seriously when they get to these grades. Charter schools do well too, becuase the parents are backing the kids. But, inner city schools (especially middle and high) are notoriously bad places where the majority are going to drop out. It's the environment the students live in and, most importantly, the lack of parental support in the middle and high school years that play a large role that no one wants to admit. It becomes very easy to blame the teacher, who only has the child for 8 hours out of 24 hours a day.
Charter schools in my area are funded in part with federal and local taxes. The kids wear uniforms and one has to sign up by lottery, usually, to get into these schools were education is touted and rules are stricter. But, our public middle school has an almost uniform (collared shirts, belts, slacks) too and it touts education, computers, strict rules, etc. The Charter school got a B for the first time a few years ago, but our public middle school in white suburbia gets A+'s based on student testing. The black middle school downtown got a C, which is really an F.
Mentors for poor, black children? Is this an admission that the current generation of black parents can't do it? If I was a black person, I would be pissed off. Or, is this reality? Think about it.
Anyone ever read the book, The Giver? There, the Society decided that one had to apply to be a parent. Only those deemed capable of raising a child were paired for the purpose and given a toddler to raise. Others were breeders and then became hard laborers, and a few were chosen for trade/profession. Elders determined each person's life path upon the 12th birthday . The reasons for this Society's rules are given in the book. And, it starts with the concept that birth parents may be inept at raising their children to be gainful children, so the State took over in that decision making by uprooting the child to a home with a stable mentor. Think about it.

To get a child into a charter school, the parents have to pick it. That child will get in, if the parents are lucky enough. I think charter schools do better, not only because of the non-unions, but becuase it is comprised of children who are backed by their parents.
And, I think public school teachers care about the kids. Unions are not hte greatest, and neither is this standardized testing that makes kids into parrots. But, I think it's easy for teachers to get burned out and focus on what he/she can salvage from the kids who have the parental backing to make it. Teachers can not fight the child's situation at home.
When a father is in jail, it takes an extraordinary strong mother to hold the family together. I think the kids feel like losers when dad's in jail. Crime is all around the family, and it's easier to join a gang for family protrection then to hit the books. Start going into petty theft, burglary, drug dealing, and then advance to illegal gun running. Drop out. I've run rap sheets, and it's the same scenario over & over & over.
I came out of the worst of the worst elementary schools, public. An F school. I made it. I believed I was different and my parents, even though they were JW, were interested in me being literate. They would have beat me if I did poorly in school. I would have been dead if I joined up with a gang.

I first read about the phenomenom of fatherlessness in america in the book, "The Broken Hearth." Then, criminal law classes reinforced it. Now, my own experience. There was a time when the "Million Men" marches were getting stronger in Washington DC. I thought it was the beginning of the needed conversation of the importance of a family.

Fatherless Homes Breed Violence
According to Getting Men Involved: The Newsletter of the Bay Area Male Involvement Network, Spring 1997:
Begin quote:
- 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes (Source: U.S. D.H.H.S., Bureau of the Census
- 90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes
- 85% of all children that exhibit behavioral disorders come from fatherless homes (Source: Center for Disease Control)
- 80% of rapists motivated with displaced anger come from fatherless homes (Source: Criminal Justice & Behavior, Vol 14, p. 403-26, 1978.)
- 71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes (Source: National Principals Association Report on the State of High Schools.)

Mentors may help, but it's the parents that are going to be the largest push for these kids. The parents, the home environment, what the parents think is and is not morally right . . . that is going to make a real difference. Seriously, look at the parents and talk to the parents . . . and you will see where the child is going, with a few rare exceptions.
Obviously , OJ and Michael Jackson were victims of rascist juries that let them off. Ridiculous. Each jury decides the law to the evidence as best they are able. I respect the decision in Travon, OJ, and MJ. OJ proved to later be a criminal. And, MJ had clouds on his name from other boys. If Zimmerman is a bad dude, it will come out in the end. He will get in trouble with the law in the future.

Travon Martin did the "asswhippen" in this case. He had Zimmerman pinned for a half minute of assswhippen. He was no innocent lad.
While i am no fan of Obama's socialistic politics, I do not equate Obama to Travon. I don't see Obama as pulling these punches.

I think the conversation needs to be a complete change. To build up the confidence of inner-city/poor black people that they are not victims and they can make anything out of themselves. If one believes that the system is rigged and they are a victim, then they will continue to be victims. I went to school in an "F" school, inner city, 50% black, 40% Hispanic, and 10% poor, white Skeeters. Most of my classmates are probably in jail. By 7th grade, they were dropping out.
But, my family didn't tell me I was going to be at the low end. I was told every day that I was going to do something. My parents were there to make sure I did my homework, even if they didn't understand it. I think black families are broken, especially inner-city. Fatherless families. It starts with the family unit as well as society giving them the tools to win. But, most of all, it starts with their own belief that they are good. And, that has to start when they are 2 years old. It is for this reason, that I am 100% behind early childhood education.
Here's something really racist I am going to admit.. I cling to that black people inside the JWs (and black ex-JWs) are smart, well read and respectable people. They are not the low white-trash of some of the anglo-saxon JWs. I see a child molestor, it's a white JW. I probably would have continued alot longer in an all black JW congregation. I really like black JWs and black ex-JWs. And, I know black professionals and they are great people who worked hard (like me) to get out of the inner-city. But, I put on a pedastal the black JWs. Well, they are brainwashed by the religion, but they are great people.
But, I also know the black gangs, drug issues. Folks, I get an opportunity to volunteer in criminal court. And, I volunteer at the schools. There are some really trashy black people. And, the violent gangs attacking innocent Hispanics. It doesn't help me want to keep my car doors unlocked when I go into certain neighborhoods. And, there are really trashy white people. I just locked my door at the shrimp market down at the local docks, when a WHITE couple obviously high on meth were sitting at a picnic table near me. White can also be welfare queens, faking disability claims, heroin/drugs, living off the 'system. And, trashy people bring about more heartache in the next generation becuase they are not teaching that they can 'move up.'
I know a retired public school teacher, great friends with her. She taught in inner-city Ohio. She admittd to me that each year she gave all kids in her middle school math class two weeks. She then "wrote a majority off" and focused on the few who were interested in learning. The parents were not interested in helping the kids learn, except for a few. Homework never happened wtih these kids. After 7th, 8th, and 9th grade, this group of kids would drop out. She claims she was really good at predicting who would leave school. That was her honesty.

Britain | Jehovah's Witnesses hushed up child sex scandal | July 16, 2013
by jwleaks inchurch officials hushed up a child sex scandal in their ranks and refused to co-operate with police.. .
jehovah witness ministerial servant gordon leighton admitted sexually abusing a child when he was confronted by his church elders, a court heard.. but during the official police investigation, the 53-year-old who made headlines in the 1990s when wife yvonne, 28, died after refusing a blood transfusion after childbirth on religious grounds denied any illegal wrongdoing.. and when detectives asked elders simon preyser, harry logan and david scott to make statements about the confession, all three refused and said what they had heard was confidential.. for three years, the elders refused to co-operate with the criminal investigation and kept up that stance when the case was brought before newcastle crown court after the victim made a complaint to police.. each was issued with a witness summons which they fought to overturn before being ordered to testify by judge penny moreland citing public interest.. their barrister richard daniels said the men had a duty to god not to breach confidence.. he added: privileged communication between members of the congregation and ministers is an absolute right and duty and there is no power in law to breach such a confidence.. judge moreland said: it is apparent that the three elders who were present when this conversation took place are in possession of relevant evidence as to a point which is of real significance in this case.. they claim the right of confidentiality, they claim that what they heard said by the defendant during the course of that meeting ought to be subject to privilege, as ministers of religion.. judge moreland refused to withdraw the summonses and said: public interest is clearly in favour of this evidence being given.. what was said by the defendant on that occasion is of great significance in the trial.. despite the judges ruling, the men still refused to make statements to police until just hours before they were called before the jury.. leighton, who has since been expelled from the church at lambton kingdom hall in washington, denied two charges of indecency with a child and seven of indecent assault.. he was yesterday found guilty of two charges of indecency with a child and six of indecent assault.
he was found not guilty of one indecent assault charge, on the direction of the judge.. he was remanded in custody until he is sentenced next month but warned he is facing a lengthy spell behind bars.. prosecutor katherine dunn told the court the victim, who is now an adult, broke her silence in 2009.. the court heard how at a special church meeting, leighton admitted sexual abuse and made excuses for his behaviour.. miss dunn said: the elders conducted their own investigation.

Even in the US (California's Supreme Court), the penitential communication can not act as a cloak for which the church hides its crimes. Elder meetings are not in a confessional nature but more like an investigatory nature to determine guilt and punish. Further, usually the victim and her family are present at these elder meetings, including two other elders. Others in the congregation can be called in to answer. The sex abuse is then reported to headquarter staff & legal departments, thus breaking any hint that it is a religiously confidential meeting. Elder's meetings are not a mano-a-mano confidential, confessional meeting. Further, this man was a Ministerial Servant (I think i read somewhere he was) which has been proven here in the US to be an agent (quasi-employee) of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Anyway, even if he wasn't a MS, he was a baptised publisher (I.E. MINISTER) of the church. So, now, we have a non-profit organization whose agent committed a crime, it was admitted ina public forum, and the elders did not report it to the police.
Let's change up the scenario. Let's say there had been a murder. The killer and the victim's family reported it to the elders. The killer is an agent of the organization. The elders investigated the matter, talked to all parties involved, called their headquarters. The killer said he was sorry. The elders claim that the investigation was in a confessional and don't report the matter to the police. They bury the victim in silence. The killer remains in the church, until the shit hits the media fan. Then, he's relieved of the religion. How long do you think that would fly?
I am reminded that when one harbors a known criminal, they can become accessories to the crime because they concealed it. Now, I am wondering that because this victim waited and the JW policy is to tell the victim and victim's family that they can't report it to the police lest be disfellowshipped . . . if the English barrister has a cause to hold the elder's criminally culpable as an accessory.
Child sex abuse is a high level crime, against an innocent child. This is highly different then a crime directly against the church (like stealing money from the back room), where the church/victim chooses to not report it.
How did this come out? The child reached the age of majority, and reported it?

Pedophiles Knocking
by Marvin Shilmer inpedophiles knocking .
in a nutshell, it points out why the general public should be leery of jehovahs witnesses knocking at the front door.

What can someone learn at a doorstep:
1. Who is home and not home.
2. If the doors are locked; how many & type.
3. If there is an alarm.
4. If there is a dog.
All of this information can be used by someone with very sinister motives. Thinking of the Night Stalker in the UK that used the JWs as a front to prey on elderly victims to rape.
What's the purpose of a door visit? To get a Bible Study. Getting a Bible Study with small children (or around them) is a great advance for someone with sinister motives.
What's that old Barbara Mandrell song? And, it could be the devil knocking on your door, but with a blue suit and Watchtower in hand.
