very first post.
go easy on me!.
my question though is this.
It's for when the US Government shuts them down (like Waco-style) in the Final Big A. They will all hide inside, and be safe as there are no windows.

more jehovah, more justice .
jacques lost all contact with his family .
You see, law does change. Chip, chip, chip goes the WTS. Imagine if EVERY disfellowshipped person was able to sue....

p.s. Deepest sympathy to Ore-bore-us who will, as Hank Williams sang, have a tear in his beer over this decision.
i know it says your age next to your name but alot of people did not put in the info.
so i am curious .
.
I just celebrated my 5th birthday party - so I'm 5 years old!
Seriously, I'm approaching the big 40. Don't worry, I'm saving for my red corvette and hot, young 22 year old.
how many times did you hear jw`s rant on 'we dont baptize our children as infants, we let them make their own decision as adults'.
fair enough?
yes, how balanced and reasonable.
Jambon, you are "right on"

court overturns hobbs decision .
by mike chouinard .
it was almost a decade ago daphine hobbs died following a hysterectomy at chilliwack general hospital, but a case that followed might still be far from over.
My condolences: I am very sorry for this woman and her family. If only she would have asked for clotting factors, which were available, she may have lived. If only she would have seen the difference between "current" therapy & antilogous blood transfusions, she may have saved her own blood. If only she would have waited until 2000 & read the Sacramento Bee, she may have taken hemoglobin.
What I know about her death:
She was having a vaginal hysterectomy where "inadequate homeostasis" (not stopping a bleeding vein/artery) lead to her death. She was in surgery for a total of 4 hours. It started at 12:18 and where the doctor did laparoscopic procedures for unattaching everything connected to the uterus. At 1:45, the doctor decided to do the hysterectomy through the vagina. This is a generally safer approach and required less recovery time (no major cutting of the abdominal wall).
Type of complication | Vaginal hysterectomy (without laparoscopy) | Abdominal hysterectomy (without laparoscopy) |
Heavy blood loss requiring blood transfusion | 3% | 2.5% |
At about the same time, 1:45, her heart started to beat more rapidly (trying to compensate for blood loss). They gave her IVs to replace blood volume. Within 45 minutes, she had lost upwards of 1,000 ml of blood. At or about 2:30, the doctors gave her Dextran, but the doctor thought she wasn't bleeding as much so he decided against making more incisions which would be needed to do an abdominal hysterectomy. By 3:00, she had lost more than 1/2 of her blood supply (or 2,000 ml) of blood. Even though she only had 1/2 of her blood, both parties admit that she had enough hemoglobin in her system. At 3:20, the doctor realized that he could not stop the bleeding & went through the abdomen. The operation was completed at 4:35, and she had lost over 4,000 ml of blood. She had received a total of 14 liters of Ringers solution and 1 liter of Dextran solution. She was transferred to ICU, and the doctors asked her husband for a blood transfusion consent. He refused. She died at 1:30 the very next morning (about 7 hours after the end of the surgery).
The WTS's Expert Witness:
The WTS called one Dr. Boyd as an expert witness. Dr. Boyd "is a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology and has treated numerous Jehovah Witness patients in his practice, and is aware of their religious issues regarding blood transfusions and the medical management of these issues. In his affidavit sworn November 20, 2000, Dr. Boyd states as follows: The records indicate that by the end of the operation that Mrs. Hobbs had lost 4,000 ml of blood. This would have represented all of her circulating blood volume. The estimated blood volume of a nonpregnant female is between 3,250 ml and 3,865 ml (Princhard JA, Anesthesiology 1965; 26:393" So, Dr. Boyd is one of those "friendly" doctors.
My questions
1. Why is Dr. Boyd quoting something from 1965?
2. Why did not Dr. Boyd state that losing blood equaled losing platelets. Sometimes, it's not the loss of blood...it's the rapid loss of losing platelets. Without platelets to stop the bleeding, she WAS going to bleed to death. Watering down her blood with aqueous Ringers solution (WTS "official" cure for blood loss) was what the doctor did, and was NOT going to work. Watering blood doesn't help it clot.
3. She would have benefited from clotting factors. Why weren't they considered? The doctor probably had no clue that the WTS would allow blood derived clotting factors.
The medical consent card that is signed, should protect the hospital and doctor when the operation contains a significant risk of losing blood. Hysterectomies are such a type of surgery. The uterine wall is infiltrated with blood vessels (makes babies, ya know). See http://www.wdxcyber.com/nbleed13.htm "Intraoperative or delayed post operative intraperitoneal bleeding requiring blood transfusion (5%)" When you cut the uterus (or it bursts), there is a very real chance of death from blood loss. When a doctor "cuts" it out, the patient is at a significant risk.
The medical consent card should not protect the hospital or doctor from unlimited liability where they make a stupid mistake (cut main artery doing a boob job).

p.s. I'm sure "ore-bor-us" will be on later today with his play-by-play hurrah on the WTS's behalf.
for those of you who like science fiction - what is your favourite science fiction book, or indeed film?
"Ender's Game" is the best. Life's just a simulation of psychological manipulation.
Nonfiction - "Into Thin Air" - when everything can go wrong, it will when egos get in the way.

VM44, I agree, been there many a times. While Torrance is not BH, it's great all the same. Slice of America. Cool nights & warm days, Del Amo, Redondo Beach, and the PP....and the fond memories of a Catholic I used to know.
just a few days ago someone posted here a very good quote from the 1984 survival into a new earth book.
it contained a statement that was just flat out wrong.
i remembered thinking that it was a very good quote to have for reference.. of course, now i can't find the thread, and can't remember the quote!!!!.
Auldsoul,
I give you with one of my favorite quotes to place on a plaque next to the one you made - "The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived, and dishonest, but the myth persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought." John F. Kennedy That should really puzzle Mrs. Auldsoul's soul.
I also leave you with one of my "horse" sense quotes. "You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make him drink." I've handled hundreds of horses in my day, and it's true. If you muscle a horse, she will always win. You have to make it her decision. Until we were ready to leave, we defended the Truth.
I admire your persistence. Keep it gentle, else she will pull back, rear up, and burn your hands with your own leadrope.

for those who have friends there or who just left there, what is being said about this?
They are saying, "I am going to Disney World!" (I crack myself up).
Seriously, the first hand reports will trickle out. Be patient. The truth always comes out in the end. Just like Crisis of Conscience. Eduardo may just get his wish of secret documents.
