Dating is either a nightmare or hilarious (depending on my mood!)
by Cady inso on rare occasions i get the brilliant idea that online dating is worth a shot.
i'm in the psych program at school, 90% of which is female, and since i work and am in school almost all the time i tend to only rarely run into single guys my age.. so this guy invited me to his company's yearly party sat.
- he actually works for this huge online retailer, so lots of techy people and what not, good drinks, whatever.

Hmmm what did CHLuke leave? I love it when someone asks me a question, and I know the answer!! Especially if it's somewhat obscure. When I manage to actually make my statement or give my opinion, before I have a chance to second guess myself or feel unsure and stay silent.

My Yahoo Music Group--Come Sign in
by Terry inanybody interested in original music?.
i've been composing and recording my own music since 1995.. the advent of electronic technology and home recording have created a boom that has allowed people who have the inclination to experiment and develop.
their ideas in ways never before possible.. for myself, instead of going the techno route; i've chosen the type of sounds that appeal to me.

Why does the word freedom appear at all in this subject line. The only thing that makes a marriage is mutual respect and admiration, a desire to share LIFE. Do you actually know what love is?? It is NOT selfish. It's not about what you can get out of it, or something that validates you. It's something that grows out of simple moments. It's not sex, that is the icing on the cake. That is the moment that you can be closer to your person than any other, and adds that dimension to it. You can have sex with anyone, if that is all you want out of life. Have you ever been someplace new and wonderful alone? Have you ever watched a movie or listened to great music or eaten a fantastic meal, alone? When you love someone, you have this urge to turn to them and share those moments. You can make an informed decision about buying a car, but every year there is a new model, will you continually question your decision, or get on with living and enjoying the one you bought? And as far as women not wanting to hear the truth, I would ask if men, particularly early in a relationship, want to tell the truth. Are they actually ready to accept the consequences of telling the truth. Giving her all the info, and allowing her to make a decision that is not what HE wants to hear?

JWs Treatment of Women "Characteristically Fundamentalist"
by Seeker4 inbelow is a section from the essay, why the fundamentlaist approach to religion must be wrong by scott bidstrup.
i've long struggled with the jw view of women, and how they are treated in the congregations, and this part of the essay was particularly revealing to me.. .
see how many parallels with jws you can come up with from this list.. .

I just realized this thread had continued also. First off Rex, we will never be able to come to an understanding, because unlike you, I think the bible a fantasy, such as Lord of the Rings. As far as child bearing, that IS a biological limitation. Holding some type of office, or being a leader, is a question of intellect and character. The two do not compare.

Do you fall back to blaming the "Wicked Sytem of Things" for everything?
by AK - Jeff inas witnesses it was the 'catch all' phrase.
we blamed illness, crime, economic probs, job issues, marital probs, and whatever else came down the pike as the fault of the wicked old system.
recently a former friend of us, a long time witness had a stroke.

I had an aunt who used the flip side of this one often. Every time she was successful in her conniving machinations (which was often, she was a tireless woman) she would say it was Jehovah's will, and how wonderful it was. She must have been high in his esteem, he certainly spent a lot of time on her.

what's the best experience...
by BlackSwan of Memphis inthat you ever remember having with an elder, ms, co, do, governing body member etc?.
there was a family that i knew growing up, when my dad died, and our family was going through some problems, the dad,an elder in the hall, was the only one that went out of his way to take me under his wing and treat me like his daughter.
really nice guy.. anyone have any good experiences?.

Only in retrospect, because it has been such a hoot since. I got "brought before" the elders when I was about 17. I had been having a typical teenage good time. One elder asked me if one of the boys involved had "touched my breast". It cracks me up even now! And oooohhhh the responses I would give today!
But back to truly good things. There was an elder and his family, whose house I nearly lived at. They were very sweet loving people, and I had wonderful times there.

How does Shunning feel?
by DaveNwisconsin injust curious as i had never really been a true jehovah witness.

Everyone in my large family has been a JW since birth. When I left the only other family member out, was my sister. I faded, I moved away. I'm happy to say my parents got out while I was gone doing my wild thing. When I got a little older, a little more mature, and started having children, (one of whom is named after my aunt who has never seen her) I started remembering all of the family get togethers, huge wonderful things. Those people now treat you as though you had leprosy. It feels horrible. You know the dreams where you are screaming, but you can make no sound? A lot like that. But I still believe that a good portion of them are suffering too. I believe they miss us. I believe they are plain scared.

Have you ever seen a tree that had a band around it when it was young? Or was too close to a stick or pole? In time, that tree grows right around those obstacles. Pretty soon, they are part of the tree, and no seperating them. I am like one of those trees, and I come back here to be among some of my own kind. All those tall straight perfect trees out there can be daunting sometimes, and they certainly don't understand my struggles to grow. Besides, I never fail to find a post that is clever, witty, well written, and gives me a good laugh.
