usually i meander over by the college with all of its big, shady trees.. well, satan himself musta been with me this morning cause i got a hankering for a donut!
i eat maybe 4 donuts a year, not my thing..... anyhow, i decide to turn for the donut shop where i choose my sin, an eclair covered in chocolate..... i turn to look at the little stack of reading material and what do i see?.

Doesn't anyone here believe in recycling?
Precisely what I was thinking! I usually try to put the magazines in the recycling bin, so that it can be of some use to society. Just throwing it away is a total waste, almost like reading them is .
(In NYC we must recycle stuff by law, but even in places where it isn't mandatory, it's still possible to do it. Think of the environment!)

this is my first post here, so i guess i should introduce myself j i'm a 19-year-old college student in baltimore, maryland.
i was involved with jws on and off for about 4 years and, after being baptized for a little over a year, i stopped attending meetings.
although my time as a jw was very brief (compared to the decades many people have spent in the organization) it is amazing how much my experience as a jw has affected my life.
Welcome Sunflower.
Your situation is a little like mine. I too am a 19 year old college student (from NYC), but due to family ties to the Org., I'm unable to make the clean break that you seem to have made. Hope things are working out for you and that you will get more clarity as you go along. Do you have any family members who are JW's?

from time to time some of us may have wondered about the amount of work that we will have to do restoring the post-armageddon world into a paradise.
think of all that construction and all that clearing up!
how long is it going to take?.
Was this site originally pro-JW or were there more JW's on this site in the beginning? I think the site is a lot more interesting now.

http://www.whitehouse.org/initiatives/purity/index.asp .
president bush is proud to introduce an ambitious new phase in the fight to preserve all that is decent in america.
conceived and championed by the revered republican think tank americans for purity, "operation infinite purity" is dedicated to the complete eradication of masturbation from american soil by the year 2005. .
Well, I guess "soft" money contributions won't help you much here.
The Supreme Court will have a "hard" time determining whether this is constitutional or not.
(OK, so I won't be on Comedy Central anytime soon)

today i received greg stafford's new book three dissertations on the teachings of jehovah's witnesses.
for those who don't know, stafford has been a staunch defender of the watchtower society's teachings for at least six years, on the net and in print.
his previous book, jehovah's witnesses defended (1998, 2000), is a milestone in pro-jw literature.. the new book is a radical departure from stafford's previous book in that he strongly questions the society's doctrines about blood transfusions, the basis for the claim of spiritual authority by jw leaders, the necessity for christians to believe the society's 1914 doctrine, and issues of "legalism" including the propriety of requiring "time" in the field ministry to be reported, and even the supposed scriptural basis for the society's ban on celebrating birthdays and christmas.

Penton developed misgivings over a long period of time, and if I remember right, it was the flack that the Society gave him over his "JWs in Canada" book that pushed him far into the camp of critics.
Why did the Society give Penton flack over a book that was pro-JW? I've never read it, but in Apocalypse Delayed Penton said it was a very pro- JW book. Did he have a couple of negative things in there?

well it's happened.
i'm pretty surprised no one has posted this yet!!!.
anger over 'first cloned human' .
I'm against human cloning as well. When you die, it's time for you to go, the world has had enough of you. If your child who you really loved died and you want to replace him, replace him with a new, unique child. I mean, I'd feel kind of weird knowing that my parents simply wanted me as some kind of replacement and not really as a unique entity.
However, cloning for harvesting body parts is a totally different thing. If I could get a clone so that I can harvest stem cells with which I could then manage to grow vital organs with (I think that's how it goes, right?), then I think that can be of great benefit to mankind and a revolutonary step. For the right to lifers who think even this is wrong, have God make a personal statement through AP, Ok?

now that dad has recovered his equilibrium, i just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone who expressed concern about my daughter the last couple of weeks.
in the great scheme of things this is a minor matter but it sure affected me!
i guess my family has been pretty lucky compared to others.. anyway, julie (that's the daughter one, not the wifely one) recovered so fast that she returned to school this past monday.
AlanF,
Glad to hear your daughter on the road to recovery. It's great that this story has a happy ending.

just thought about all field service etc.
does the gb count time, and if they have a specific amount for the month, and if they should fall and not make their quota do the elders make a spiritual return visit on them?
since the corporate change does anyone know what they are doing ?
I think they get to report the time they spend on speaking engagements. Apparently, very few of them actually participate in the "life saving" work. Too much time spent destroying them, I guess.
