Congrats .
Best wishes to mom and child also.
where there little things that you did just to express yourself and feel like you weren't just some robot clog in a machine?
i was thinking of stuff i did over the years: .
read whatever books i wanted, even apostate ones over the years.
When "still a believer": attended holiday/birthday parties at school (without telling parents), always changed clothes after conventions at the hotel before going out (hated being in a suit all day), never wore a suit jacket to bookstudy or field service even though in my home congregation it was expected of brothers (did I mention I hate suits? ). Watched R rated movies. What Newborn said (without guilt ).
during "fade": all the above, plus pretending to knock/ ring bells in service to avoid talking to people about what I didn't believe in.
want to study with me last winter.
he came into my house and while walking around looking at things he noticed my shelved collection of video games, some going back 15 years, but most old playstation rpg and racing games, a few ps2 rpg'd mixed in.
the usual stuff, final fantasy and such.
Generally my parents were OK with non violent games like sports games, etc. Games that explicitly had shooting, or killing were not really acceptable.
since the term "this generation" evidently means "two generations" i think we should have our discussion of things that are evidently true.
no need to limit it to the bible, but i'll start off with one.. 1 tim.
3 "2now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife" evidently means everybody else can have as many wives as they want.
Since I'm a man and Anne Hathaway only dates men...
evidently I have a real shot with her .
(If something is so evident to the JW magazine writers, why didn't they figure it out before? )
man i hated that crap.. .
they were always telling these aesop's fables as if they'd actually happened.. .
who hasn't heard the one about the person who didn't like the fact his kjv had "jehovah" in it, tore it out and said "..it's not there anymore" and the ever-clever jw says "it's there in three other places...." nanny nanny boo boo!!!.
The angels protecting the sister from the serial killer was popular.
I also heard one about a JW sister who was robbed while being truant from the meetings. She supposedly called out "Jehovah's name" when she was first accosted, and this caught the attention of the criminal. He asked her if she was a JW, and she said yes. He then seemed a little confused and said that her statement couldn't be true, since if she were a JW she would be at the meeting that night and not out on the street . See, even criminals expect better of JW's .

lowly in heart" ***.
will you follow the pattern jesus set?.
Two questions:
What book are they studying? I have no clue what cf stands for .
How long is the Congregation Bible Study? I know it replaced the Book Study from when I was there, and that used to be an hour.
I was suprised on another thread when it was mentioned that public talks are only 30 mins. now. Looks like meetings are getting shorter.
if you leave the "safe waters" of the organization and go back into the world, you are doomed to misery----per the watchtower.....was that your experience?.
No, because most of my friends were non-JW's anyway. I just thought JW's were a little better, not vastly superior. It never crossed my mind that a good worldly person was bad, just a little incomplete. And I hardly talked about or thought about religion when with friends (even JW ones). Meetings and field service were seperate from other things I did mentally. Guess I never had the makeup of a great Witness .
i was just reading the boe letter dated june 7, 2006 regarding pornography.
here's an excerpt that made me go "hmmmmm".. next, the body of elders should determine whether the brother still qualifies to serve.
he may continue to serve if his involvement consisted of (1) a few brief viewings, (2) he displays a heartfelt desire to desist from looking at pornography in any form, (3) the elders are convinced that he will refrain from viewing pornography, (4) he continues to retain the respect of others who are aware of what he did, and (5) his conscience allows him to do so.
The writer of this BoE letter seems to know a great deal about the different types of pornography. I wonder how they got to be so knowlegeable .
Also, they list child porn in the same league as bondage, etc. Child porn is illegal, and if an elder knows someone who has some shouldn't it become a police matter? Oh yeah, this is the Watchtower society we're talking about .
it is here in writing the new generation change.
on page 5 of the of the wt while talking about the annual meeting report.. "john barr gave the third and final talk.".
"john barr made clear that the gathering wound not continue indefinitely.
I don't quite get why they would paint themselves into a corner like this after they had already redefined "the generation" in 1995 in a way that would give them indefinite leeway to put off Armageddon. I guess they couldn't generate enough urgency with a definition that could theorectically put Armageddon off until the year 10000, so they re-redefined it to put a vague sense of nearness of the end of the world to wip Witnesses into a frenzy. The fact that the logic and reasoning behind the teaching is completely assinine is of no consequence since most JW's either will have this stuff go over their head, or buy into it without thinking.
It just goes to show how out of touch or stupid the actual leadership is. If there were any practical thinkers on the GB they would see that there is a potential theological time bomb waiting for the 2050 GB who is going to have to explain away and redefine the generation doctrine once again (probably to something like the 1995 "old light"). Clearly these guys are blindly loyal true believers or just do not care. At least the GB Ray Franz wrote about seemed aware that the stuff they taught was highly flawed, but I really have to wonder if this new generation GB (only 2 "old guard" remain) believe the crap they are saying, as impossible as that may seem.
Or maybe they just expect the 2050 rank and file JW's to be just as dumb as "this generation's".
well, it is a about a year old and many on here already know much of the story.
it is an good read with a few new tidbits.
here is the story..... http://www.arcapologetics.org/blog/ begin .post peter gregersons wise and painful departure from the watchtower .
Good to see Gregerson did so well post-JW and that he was able to get all his kids out. He was definitely one of the "secondary characters" in CoC that I always wondered about (also what ever happened to that Sanchez couple that got kicked out during the purge?).
I also have the feeling that the GB probably felt that Gregerson resigned because he was getting "apostate influence" from Ray Franz, and hence felt even more compelled to get rid of Franz. The funny thing is I get the impression Ray Franz may very well have stayed a JW much longer if they had not throwned him out on trumped up charges. I mean, Gregerson had to coax him into writing the book, apparently. If it was me, I'd already have a manuscript by the late 70's with some of the stuff he already went through .
On an unrelated note, that story gives me one more reason to hate Walmart .
