Who says you can't have beer for breakfast Simon?
BTW, don't loose your breakfast when the US beats your team on Saturday .
it just doesn't seem right ... all the matches are going to be on early in the morning here.. i guess it's breakfast with footy instead of a beer for this world cup!.
although i cheered for canada in the winter olympics i think i'm going to revert to being an english fan for the next few weeks (well, at least until we get knocked out ...).. secretly, i'll be cheering for brazil as they are usually the best to watch but most world cups have some great matches (except that germany v austria one, lol).

she was about 13 or 14 when i first started having serious doubts about the wts.
when i informed her of my doubts a couple years later, she took the information and ran with it.... she never looked back.
i told her she could be whatever she wanted to be if she only worked hard enough.
Congrats to your daughter GoingGoingGone.
I guess I was fortunate in that my JW parents never objected to me going to college. My dad being a college grad probably helped, plus I graduated HS during that brief window when JW's didn't completely frown on college.
Good luck on her new job. Hopefully her earnings won't be gobbled up by student loans .
i've realized a new employee is a jw, because he likes to leave jw literature on his desk and because he mentioned "congregation responsibilities".
i am debating whether to tell him of my jw past.. the main reason for considering this is because i had mentioned to another coworker "g" that i was raised as a jw, before the jw's arrival.
if the jw tries to witness to "g", "g" might reveal that fact.
I've been in a similiar situation. I told my co-worker that my parents were JW's, but that I was not religious. He did not really ask too much about why I wasn't religious or not a JW, though I did say I wasn't baptized (not true ). Since I've been inactive for close to a decade, and my family knows where I stand, it's not such a big deal for me.
despite growing up a jw i was always curious where this corny plays came from?
my best memories of them were when they used to turn the lights out in the convention center - cause that meant i could sleep!!!
but seriously, who writes them?
Funny story Six.
Were there no brothers of African ancestry available to do dramas in that area of Texas? Seems like that may have made more sense than turning you into Al Jolson . Also, since it was important for you to be in character as an Ethiopian, why not also as a eunuch?
I'm doing fine, happy to hear from you. I guess internet service in Djibouti is surprisingly good . Just keep your daughter away from those new history textbooks your state is about to issue.

I was part of one drama in 1993 when I was 11. It was the drama about a Witness who "put Jehovah first" through his lifetime and was remembering various points through his early life while writing a letter to his parents. I was his youngest incarnation.
When I was that age I always hated dramas like the one I was in that was fully "modern". I much preferred the ones with the costumes and robes that were based in the olden times. But I have to admit I did have a lot of fun doing it at the time.
I also remember how strict the drama coordinator was about us not showing the script to other people. Like we had national security secrets or something .
i've been watching the new dvd and it is a bull fest about russell.
i haven't even gotten half way and they already excluded one very important bit of information.
you'll recall that russell "lost" his faith and "turning away from church creeds and searching for truth, russell examined some leading oriental religions, only to find these unsatisfying".
Can anyone be truly surprised that the new DVD is a whitewash? When was the last time the JW org. ever took a totally honest look at their past errors and history? The real shock would be if they ever actually did do an unbiased history.
i have been doing google searches on ray's passing and have not seen anything other than what has been posted on the ex-jw bulletin boards.
i thought i read a post by barbara andersen talking about an ap release to be sent out.
has anyone heard anything more...it would be a shame for ray's passing to go unnoticed outside of these forums..
IIRC, the writer of the original Time article on Franz was Richard Ostling. He's now retired from the magazine, but I think he still does some work for the AP. In addition he's a frequent commentator and lecturer on american religion.
just setting the record straight.
there is another thread that notes a claim on wiki that said that ray has died.. he had a stroke yesterday, and is in the hospital.
he is still alive.
Wow, this news is beyond sad. For me, Ray's books were the clincher for me realizing I did not want to be a JW.
I actually read ISoCF before CoC. I read both books voraciously, but I felt I really benefited more at the time from ISoCF than CoC. The book made me think about theological issues dealing with JW's in a way I hadn't before. I too wrote Ray a thank you email and got a very gracious and uplifting response. Let's hope against hope for the best.

Funny .
i was hungry for the story behind the scriptures and thought i was getting it by reading them.
i think it was beneficial but once i got to chronology i started to throw up in my mouth.
did you read them and what do you think now of the information your read?.
Somehow that fact does not shock me Leolaia.
I actually think my love of reading and literature has a great deal to do with reading My Book of Bible Stories and the Great Teacher book as much as I did when I was 4 and 5 years old. There can be weird positive influences to be gained from some of our experiences in that religion.
