My sister rules
by MuadDib ini went over to my parents' house for lunch today and played a game of cribbage with my younger sister.
my mom was at the sink washing vegetables or something, and she looked over and asked what the origin of cribbage was.
my sister, little devil that she is, looks back and says all innocently "oh, definitely pagan worship.

Just how hyped was 1975?
by MuadDib inaight.
i was raised in the jws, but i'm still young (22) and all my life what i've been told is that the society never really promoted 1975 as the definitive year for the coming of armageddon.
what i was always told is that some overzealous witnesses took certain things out of context and developed a very extreme reaction - ie selling their houses, quitting their jobs, dropping out of school, etc.

Can anyone tell me...
by MuadDib insomebody's got to know what date the memorial is this year.
i haven't been to a meeting or in service in almost four months, so i'm pretty sure there will be some pressure from my family, if not from the elders themselves, for me to go to the memorial.
i'm determined not to go (the thought of entering the hall again is total anathema) and to continue avoiding contact with all jws except my family, so i'm going to need time to plan a strategy of some kind.

Progress...?
by MuadDib inwell, if my family celebrated christmas i would have ruined it for them this year.
after working most of the 24th i went over to my parents' house for dinner and was unable to escape my mother's interrogation as to why i haven't been at meetings or in service for three months.
this turned into an hours-long conversation with my parents in which i essentially announced my decision to leave the jws.

Trends within the organization
by MuadDib ina little background before i get to my main thought.
first of all: my dad is a pretty pedantic guy and he likes to keep track of all the stats in the annual statistical summary of the society - numbers in different countries, which countries grow and which shrink, that sort of thing.
he got me into it too, a few years ago, and i've noticed (as i'm sure many of you have) the general downward trend in membership in the western world - north america and europe - and the complimentary growth in the third world - especially africa.

Something I have noticed
by MuadDib inthe last few district conventions i've been to, i haven't really been paying attention.
at lunchtime i'd kind of just keep to myself and wander around.
and i started picking up on something.

Looking for some advice
by MuadDib ini'm a young man raised in the jws, been meaning to get the hell out of dodge for a few years now (basically ever since starting a history degree and learning why the jw conception of history, science, and indeed of reality is so utterly nonsensical, in addition to having discovered girls and fun).
i have no qualms about leaving the organization, i don't care what the elders or anyone else think about my decision - with the exception of my family.
i love my family deeply and i know that my decision will really hurt them, especially my mother (a full-time pioneer), and this is making me hesitate to do what i know needs to be done in addition to causing me a lot of worry and stress.
