  christ managed to protect me, but my brother fell into this cult.

  now coz of this i am confessional lutheran.

  i just joined this forum and while reading old entries came across the following question from may/05: "do you miss feeling that jehovah was listening to your prayers?

  " that question and the responses gave me the courage to ask the above question.

  about 3 years ago, 5 publishers, including me, were disfellowshipped after jehovah led us to speak up to our elders regarding their inconsiderate treatment of victims who came to them for help.

  It's interesting that you had doubts for so long but still stuck it out. Was it fear of retribution. Maybe you were in your comfort zone. I wonder how many of the 6 million JWs feel like us?

  Obviously I can't help but agree with you. I had a good friend I worked with who had an impressive physical presence and a voice to match which he always used to intimidate anyone that didn't agree with him. You knew someone was being basted by him from a 100m radius! If you knew him you knew he was harmless with it. I take abaddon in this way. However like you, i feel that he stretches his analogies too far from the points being made.
  I'm sure abaddon is going to lay into me when he reads this. Hang on .......... OK I've got my flack jacket on. Go for it abaddon.

  I've just had another thought. Does this date really matter anymore since in 1995 they changed their generation doctrine.
  The 1914 edifice was significant because 'millions living now will never die' was in it's infancy. Since the doctrine has changed and 'millions living now WILL certainly die' there is no significant difference between 1914 and 1894.
  The question is why doesn't the GB drop the 607 date? It won't be the first time the light got brighter.

  add 17 to 539=556, neriglissar==4 years, add 4 to 556=560, evil-marduk=2 years, add 2 to560=562, nebuchadnezzar=43 years, add 43 to 562 =605.

  the bible at 2 kings 25: 8 and 9 says "in the 19th year of king nebuchadnezzar the servant of the king came to jerusallem and burned the house of jehovah.

  Double Standard with gender???

  ok--this came up because of another thread.

  it didn't really belong on the thread in question so i thought i'd start a new one.

  my thinking is that there is a big double standard not just because of religious beliefs but because people are taught that-- men are more sexual than women, men think more about sex than women, men take advantage of this way of thinking and women don't.

  True, but when you keep banging at it you start to see a pattern, it is racist pattern. You said that old western were bad compared to today. Is that the best description you could come up with.   Good question. Showing constant portrayals sympathethic to Gobel's world view would be totally unacceptable to those that run Hollywood. They'ed cut their throats before they did that.
