could a kind, all powerful, gracious god have ever inspired such a book.

What I'm say is that the Bible given the trouble it has help to cause could have come from the Devil himself. We read this Book like it is from God but on careful inspection and when you read it with an open mind and start seening the contradictions it makes you wonder if it is not the Devil's book. Read the versus where Jehovah promotes death and destruction to innocent men women and children, the constant need for animal blood sacrifice, the need to torture Jesus, killing him wasn't enough etc, etc.

Sorry I don't buy that. HE gave us something vague that would lead to problems. If we were made in his image then he would ahve known that.

Unfortunately I don't remember the details but there was a great example of this in a documentary related to an exinction event ( Not the one 65 million years ago) where a female scientist believed she had it all figured out, stuck to her guns even though other scientists showed that even her microscopic fossil organism (used as evidence of her theory) were actually crystals which if I remember rightly on its own blow away her theory.

It was amazing how she saw what suited her in those crystals. That worried me because it made me wonder how many other scientist operate in this manner.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific.

Regardless of whether the Bible promotes one god or many the probability is that where there is one there many. There is not a single known singularity in this universe.

What is amazing is that Christianity is around 2000 years after its inception. The only thing keeping it alive is the belief that believers will go to heaven if they are baptised and behave themselves.
If you think about it if JWs had started christianity 2000 years ago Christianity would have petered out soon after. JWism isn't designed to be a long term religion, it's doctrines don't allow it.

I'm suspicious of attempts to disprove something by someone that has an axe to grind. Scientist for example marry themselves to a dear theory they develop and swear by it even though other scientist come along and show how it is not so.

i'm trying to watch the world cup honestly, but this has to be the most boring game ever invented.

It's boring cos you don't play it to appreciate the skill and team work that are at play in this game. The fact that it is countries trying to win the most prestigious sporting prize makes it ten times more interesting. Unless you've played it you won't want to watch it.

I find I can't watch American football for more than 5 mins. I don't know the teams they don't mean anything to me, there is too much start and stop and it's full of annoying American bravado.

New method of witnessing.

i recently was at a bagel shop here in san jose,ca and while waiting i noticed something weird.at the back of the bagel shop was a little area that had one of those clear file holders,i was curious and went to investigate,to my surprise there were two issues of awake one in english and the other in an asian language.inside the awake was a copy of the watchtower.printed on the file holder was a message that basically said if you need any more information on starting that if you're interested in a bible study to call such and such number.i found this rather odd,the other curious thing is i haven't seen any witnesses in my neighborhood in almost 6 months.i guess they figured out that door to door work osn;t as effective.. craig

Whilst on a bus on my way to a meeting I heard a couple of chaps chatting about the woes of the world. That day I happen to have a mags that dealt with those issues and after some self deliberation I plucked up the courage to take them out of my bag and offer the mags to them. I said something like, "I couldn't help overhearing your discussion I have some literature that talk about those issues that concern" I proceeded to shove them in their face and managed to give one away. I was very content that I had beaten the devil that was intially scaring from making the attempt. Twenty years later I can still remember the look of the guys face; one of shock and why are you interfering in our discussion.
Looking back today i feel silly.
