Hi and Welcome Very_confused,
(((((((Very_confused)))))))
I can't really add much to what has already been said except that you risk falling even further into depression if you join this group.
Your expectation will be set high by what you will initially see and hear but when the reality about them hits you you will have a much higher, heavier fall. You went to them like this was the last straw. This could be really disastrous for you as they would have convinced you that this is all there is, the true path, anything else is damnation. And then where will you go what will you do when you realise you can't hack their ways anymore?
Find strength from within and surround yourself with decent people. It is imperative to be attuned to finding good people. Don't expect them to make you happy though. This I personally believe is a mistake people make. Friendships are partnerships. Sometimes you need company, help, laughter and sometimes your friend. Friends can look after your welfare to a certain extent but they can't make you happy from within. That's your job. You have to understand that you are worth as much as the next decent person and that's a good place to start.
Keep posting.

Who was Jesus really?
by Spectrum in1. was he the son of god and some kind of god himself?
2. was he an extremely intelligent man that manipulated people and made himself appear to be fullfilling the prophecies about the messiah?
3. was he a dellusional nutter?

Narkissos,
" Matthew consistently points to such a "fulfillment" while its main narrative source, Mark (or an early form of Mark) didn't."
But Mark must have thought of Him as the Messiah therefore the fulfillment of the prophecies are implied.
"It seems to me that the OT material was first used to create most of the Jesus stories, and then the literary source was pointed to as "prophecy fulfilled" "
Does this not imply #2. I think they were all in it together. They needed a focus guy and that was Jesus the Nazarene - probably highly intelligent. He took the role of the Messiah and the rest aided him to that end. This was a group of people that had had enough of the pharasee class and the burden of the Law. They had staganted for 400 years and were under the yolk of the Romans and the Law. -

"Mate, according to the reports, she was 30 metres out in chest-deep water next to a deep murky channel that is especially full of run-off waste from Moreton Bay after a storm, which we had. Full of food for predators."
Don't you have sewage treatment systems to deal with sewage before it reaches your beautiful beaches and sea. -

Narkissos,
If you read between the Gospel lines then #2 is more likely, especially since nothing has happened for 2000 years. We have the benefit of time lasped. And you've really got to be a nutter to put yourself through torture and death to fulfill a prophecy to make yourself look like the Messiah. -

JWs - Prudes or not Prudes?
by Spectrum ini was looking at jwconnections out of curiosity thinking i'd find a selection of prudish jw women but was shocked to find that some of these women don't look prudish at all.
they'ed probably give worldly women a run for their money.
maybe things are changing.

Abaddon,
Hope you enjoyed your holidays. I took it easy this NYE because last year I was told I passed out about 1 minute past midnight and missed the rest of the fun! I didn't realise that drinking half a bottle of Cognac could do that to you.
First off, I use the word worldy as is perceived by JWs, and not that I perceive non-JWs as untouchables. I could use the word normal instead but then I'd be implying that JWs are abnormal! I imagine it would suit some people here!
"Have you actually dated and lived with 'wordly' women?"
Oh yes, but I always went for the less forward ones which meant no nooky. Couldn't bring myself to do it anyway until I excorcised enough JW-demons which took a decade after leaving. The girl I did end up with was keen with no hang-ups from her side.
I was trying to see how far I could take it with the muslim girl I mentioned earlier. She totally reminded me of me and I wanted to snap her out of it. She was totally jealous of girls that she thought would be willing to do it with me and warded them off but she still wouldn't give it up. Damn!!
I think if a JW guy wants decent action then he has got to go for choice b/ (bad little JW).
I know my JW sister is a real prude who married a JW with a strong sex drive, for which as a 20 something guy almost got disfellowshipped for. He wanted choice a/ good little JW and both have paid the price for this incompatibility now stretching 20 years - nightmare.
"PS; answer to evolution thread?"
Certainly, but I've lost track. Which is it? -

wednesday,
"Someone asked why the jws women would have trouble finding a mate .It is b/c there tends to be a lot more women in the org than men. The men really have their "pick" as they say. A women gets picked usually if she is pretty, slim and it helps to have an elder in the family or your family have money. But if you are pretty, you should not have a problem finding a mate. the older sisters really have a hard time. Even if they can find an older single male, he is looking for a young pretty female.. So we have a number of 50-60 + yr old men marrried to 20-30 yr old women. Harldy ever see the reverse."
So when it comes to doctrine they are very different from the rest of us (death and damnation and all that) but when it comes to looks and money they are exactly the same as the world.
I know I lost a JW girl to a richer man, but now I'm very thankful that it worked out that way. -

welcome dreamspinn,
You haven't insulted anyone you'll soon realise why. God the Almighty can do anything but I don't think he would let jews and romans mistreat him and nail him to a pagan cross until he is dead. There is more than one way to skin a cat as far a God is concerned.
Midget-Sasquatch,
"How's about another option? That Jesus was a person like you and me, but who was so attuned to the spiritual side and to divinity, that God chose to interact with humanity through him?"
Then he is just another prophet like the rest of them. This is the kind of person the Jews were actually waiting for but he wrong footed them when he rejected the yolk of the Law. Good on him.
acadian,
What point do you want to make?
atypical,
"I personally don't care who he really was. I am only interested in the overall impression he gave, which to me was one of individuality. The impression I get is that he flew in the face of every ridiculous tradition and prejudice, and for that I admire him, whether he was a real man or a fictional character dreamed up by someone who longed to see those kinds of changes."
I think you hit the nail on the head. I should have qualified option 2 with the reasons behind the path he took, you've just mentioned them.
Tetra,
#4 is he doesn't like white Canadians that try to look like him! -

Personally I think he was number 2 for most of his life then became number 3 when he tried to take on the blood thirsty jewish establisment. -

"Interestingly enough, there were a few 'brothers' who also mentioned the importance of sex (no beating around the bush there)"
Maybe it is because they don't want to end up with a prude. Boys will be boys and we like our sex served hot.
I understand how they feel because I was trying to date a muslim girl who was really playing hard to get. A real prude. Even my suggestion to go for a walk in the park was too much for her. She wasn't into islam, she didn't even know how to pray. If you are wondering she was definitely interested in me. When a couple of times I showed interest in other girls she flipped on those girls. -
